I've been able to play quite a bit over the past 10 days, playing six 18-hole rounds and one nine-hole round. All in all, I've played pretty well considering it is still fairly early in the season and that I've had exactly one range session since it stopped snowing.

I had a goal of hitting a single digit handicap this season, but at the moment it is trending in the wrong direction. While I've put together some really impressive strings of holes (including scores of 38 and 39 on the front and back nines at my home course), overall I haven't put together a really low (for me) round yet, hanging out in the 83-86 range when I play OK and into the 90s when I'm playing poorly. As a result of playing more, I've bumped a bunch of my lower rounds from last season out of my calculation now, so my estimated WHS handicap has risen from 10-something to 13.3 at the moment.

It's a little disheartening to move in the wrong direction, but I'm trying to take the positives away from each of my rounds. My ball striking has improved a lot since last year, but I'm still prone to losing strokes with some awful shots - tops, shanks, chunks. And with those in the back of my mind I haven't really been able to cut loose too often. Flashes of speed and distance are there, but right now I'm definitely giving up a club or more of distance just by playing a little too tightly.

My goal for June is to work on going after shots a bit more, and trying to play with a bit more confidence and freedom in my swing.

Very understandable that the handicap moves up in the early season, especially with only 8 scores used now. I play year round but I’m always higher, 2-3 strokes, during winter. Keep plugging away, you’re definitely on the right track. Those good ones will become the norm.

I’m in the same boat. Some good, some really bad. And I’m definitely swinging tight as well. But I’m guessing that’s related to not being confident in the bottom of my swing right now. Ranges are set to open soon so a session or two should fix that :)

Sounds like you should be back on the right track soon. Get those stiff swings out of the way.

"Feel isn't real."

Common adage regarding golf, I suppose, but I always have to remind myself.

I had a fitting yesterday for the #CobraConnect challenge and took away both positives and negatives. Before I get to those, I do want to say I've been playing very consistent golf since the end of May, shooting an 80 and 81 before massive putter letdowns led to an 89 and 94 the last two times out. Despite the scores, I still was happy with how I played everywhere but on the greens.

First, the good from the fitting was that my iron swing in nearly zeroed out path-wise now. I was hitting very consistent little draws, and sometimes some hooks, but that's better than the weak fades I was hitting when I started lessons in November.

The bad? My driver swing is garbage. It's ironic, but TXG just did a video today about people who take their iron swing to their driver fittings. That's what I do/did yesterday. It didn't influence my fitting massively, but I hit very few good shots with the driver.

I had a lesson today and we took a quick look at my irons to see about sorting the overcooked hooks, and then we moved onto rebuilding the driver swing into something usable.

For the irons, my feel now is that my feet will be aligned slightly left of target with my shoulders parallel or slightly closed. I rotate too hard with the shoulders and by having the feet slightly open (at least in feel) helps prevent me from wanting to rip the shoulders open. It's a nice thought and I was hitting some good push draws with my 9-iron that landed at or beyond the 145 flag I lasered at the beginning of the lesson.

With the driver, feel isn't real at all! I felt like I was setting up with secondary axis tilt and closed shoulders. In reality, I was very straight and my shoulders were open or maybe neutral on good swings. We tweaked my setup similarly to the irons, with my feeling being that my feet are slightly open to target, moved the ball to inside my left heel, and then added a lot of secondary tilt. The goal is to roughly keep that tilt throughout the swing, and stop my head from moving forward. My coach also gave me some half swing drills that I can work on with wiffle balls and camera in the back yard.

The results were pretty good! I was able to get my angle of attack to be positive, which is something I've really struggled with in the past. I was shocked to watch the face-on video of the drill because what I was feeling didn't look anything like what was happening. (Apologies for the video quality - that's what happens when I get video texts from an iPhone...)

Since my last lesson I've been playing the best golf of my life, posting three rounds in the 70s at my home course, an 81 at my home course and an 84 from the tips at a different course that I only have played once before. There have been a few worse scores mixed in there (three 86s), but they were due largely to struggling with the driver off the tee. The 84 at the other course was also the result of some poor driving costing me three strokes.

The string of good rounds has brought my estimated handicap back down to 10.6, which is right around where I ended last season.

I just acquired a Tour Striker PlaneMate and hope to see some more improvement in my swing from that training aid. Additionally, our clubs for the #CobraConnect challenge should be arriving soon, and I'm looking forward to getting those onto the course. While my current bag is reasonably well fit, my wedges are definitely too upright (two degrees more upright than the rest of my clubs).

There is a lot of room for improvement with my approach shots, which currently are putting a lot of pressure on my putting. Over the last few rounds I've had an average first putt distance of 20+ feet. My lag putting is improving a lot, but it's hard not to have a three putt on the card when some first putts are from 50+ feet.

Another lesson in the books. It was actually really nice because I had a load of Arccos data from #CobraConnect to talk with my instructor about. Leading up to my lesson, we had exchanged texts about using my hour to work on putting because I average quite a few putts per round. But after looking at my Arccos stats, the issue isn't necessarily my putting, but rather my proximity to the hole on approach shots.

So, we spent the lesson working with irons again continuing to sort out some of the problems I've been having. My biggest issue is pulling across the ball, which leads to pulls and pull hooks when I keep the face square or closed or weak fades when I compensate by opening the face. During my round yesterday morning, I actually pull hooked a 5-iron out of bounds off the tee which really hurt my score.

My coach has me integrating the Justin Rose pump drill as part of my pre-shot routine (allowing hands to drop some before rotating), and we also tweaked my right hand grip, moving my thumb on top of the grip to give my arms/club more structure at the top. I previously had my right thumb wrapped around the shaft (facing more toward my target), which caused a lot of instability at the top of the backswing.

My coach sent me a lesson recap video and, honestly, I don't recognize the swing. Unbelievable amount of progress in eight months.

  • 1 month later...

Just ticked over the 50 round mark for the season so I figured an update was in order.

I'm definitely playing better golf than when I started this thread last fall. As I've told a few people offline, taking lessons hasn't immediately made me a scratch golfer (or anything close), but I feel like it has eliminated the vast majority of the awful misses (bad chunks, shanks, banana slices, etc.), made my "bad" shots better and more consistent, and that has helped to lower my scores more consistently.

One thing I didn't expect is how hard it is to change an ingrained movement pattern. It has been a slow, slow process getting to where my swing is now, and I'm hoping to make more progress by next season.

Looking back on scores from June until now, I've been pretty darn consistent, save for a 91 on a day where absolutely nothing went my way (74 was played from the front tees for #CC4):

image.png.ba1136bc6e09d8b445ee948ec7b6a858.png

Unfortunately, none of these scores have been good enough to win a #CC4 challenge, but that's a whole 'nother story.

This morning I shot a personal best even par on the back nine at my home course. I generally regard the back to play slightly harder than the front (slope rating is less, stroke rating is slightly higher though) because it has several of the longest holes on the course and a lot of elevation changes on the latter half of the nine. I actually came within inches of shooting under par, as my birdie attempt from about 10 feet on No. 18 went just right of the hole and stopped for an easy tap-in par to close the round.

I feel like the last lesson I took in July made a significant change to how I deliver the club, and I'm starting to see more reliable push draws with all of my clubs (even the woods and wedges!). I struggled for the past few weeks with some awful ball striking, but spent some time on the range this week and worked it out somewhat:

  • I had been setting up parallel left (we'll call that square) with my hips thanks to a change two lessons ago. That had been working really well until recently, when I started hitting everything off of the toe of the club. I discovered that while my hips were aligned well, my shoulders had started to set open at address (aimed left of target and left of hips), causing the club path to move left of where I was aimed. Aligning the shoulders with my hips on the shorter clubs, and slightly closed to my hips on the longer clubs brought back better face contact and turned the toe pull hooks into squared push draws.
  • With the wedges and driver, I also started suffering from blocks right of my target (and the driver would be a push slice). In my attempt to get more into the front of my left foot in the downswing rather than my left heel, I had started to not rotate my hips well on the backswing and downswing. It basically turned my swing into a sway-slide motion. Focusing on getting a good backswing turn has really helped to improve my ball striking as of late again.

I have another lesson scheduled for later this month. For the first time, I feel comfortable enough with my swing to just give it a quick glance before heading to the putting and chipping green. I've been happy with my putting recently, but I've never had anyone took a close look at my stroke or setup. Since it's something I can work on easily at home over the winter, I wanted to get it looked at before the weather starts to turn.

With that, the realization golf season is coming to a close is a sad one. The remaining few weeks of #CobraConnect will take me right to the end of being able to play as often as I have been. If the weather holds out for a bit, I think at least one round a week is possible until early October. And then, prep work for next season will start right away!

Back to back great years of progress for you!

Very nice, with the back surgery recovery I had a delayed start, and pandemic canceling my work league, I "barely" had 20 rounds this season.

At this point I should have had about 45 rounds.
Hopefully we have a mild dry fall, so we can keep playing until November, back in 2012, we were able to play up to the week before Christmas.

Hard to believe #CobraConnect is over!

I'm still working hard on my game, and I feel like some of the swing changes we worked on during my last lesson are starting to take hold. First, a swing video from yesterday's range session with the SpeedZone 9 iron:

Some things I'm really digging about this video:

  1. Club head outside hands at shaft parallel in backswing.
  2. Left arm is much more up and not around at the top. My coach wants me to feel like Matt Wolff on the takeaway and "climb the wall" vertically with my left arm.
  3. Club shallows nicely and club face is stable post-impact (i.e. no need to flip the face closed).

The last few rounds have been kind of rough due to some poor putting. Overall, the rounds have been pretty good from a ball striking point of view, but the play on the green has been a big let down.

My estimated handicap has slid back up to 11, but I think some solid putting would make a big difference in that. I'm not worried as I'm feeling like my swing is coming around. There is still some work to be done with the longer clubs, where I get the face a little too open on the backswing. Additionally, I need to be mindful of how close I stand to the ball. I'm guilty of crowding the ball which really causes issues even if everything else about the swing is right.

Because it's important to focus on progress, I grabbed a few frames from last year compared to this year:

Possibly! Need to work with my coach to be sure it's going to help reinforce what I need to work on. Problem with buying stuff randomly is that I probably can do more harm than help in some cases. I do know I can use it to at least help cement the takeaway and getting the shaft vertical. I am interested in trying the red band for a real "swing" workout.

I haven't had a lot of time lately to get out and work with mine, but this is one of the most valuable things I have taken away from using it. The inside takeaway plus starting the backswing with the arms has always been a bad habit of mine. Plus I find the rotation on the follow through to my left heel is a plus. I have pretty rigid ankles and working toward a better balanced finish is helping a lot. Your progress so far has been amazing, Cody. Keep it up!

I had what is likely my last outdoor lesson of the year yesterday. We've had a very wet week and the range was actually closed, so we had it all to ourselves (perks of working with the Director of Instruction, I guess!).

I've been playing OK golf since #CC4 ended, with just a few bad holes ruining the rounds score-wise. It basically comes down to my inconsistency from the tee and one or two bad tee shots putting me in awful positions that lead to these scores.

The major takeaway from this lesson was that I need to work on my hip mobility this off season. My swing is actually looking pretty good, but I get almost no hip turn/depth which hurts my consistency, especially with longer clubs like driver. When I don't get any depth, I end up standing up (early extending) in my downswing instead of rotating, which leaves the club face wide open.

We worked on some slow speed swings to get the feel and then moved to full speed where I saw a bit of improvement but not a lot. My hips are incredibly sore this morning, so that tells me I need to spend a lot more time this off season working on them.

hipopen.jpg.be47c148bace8d6a73f22f5a81ed15d1.jpg

Some other things to keep in my mind:

1) Continue to watch my right-hand grip, which gets very weak very quickly if I'm not conscious about setup.
2) Keeping a relaxed feeling throughout my swing, especially in my wrists, arms and shoulders.
3) Feeling "Matt Wolff-ish" on the back swing, which for me means a feeling of right forearm over left going back while the right arm stays tucked in to my side.
4) Watch my feet alignment which tends to get way too far right.

The weather is getting more touch and go each day here in Michigan as we work further into fall. I'm hoping for a few more weeks of outside practice and maybe a round or two, but there's no guarantee of either.

Thanks! That's as good of a place to start as any, I suppose!

First, to recap a few loosely-defined goals I had for this year:

1) Play More Golf

Never mind the fact that "more" is a terrible qualifier for a goal, I definitely played more golf in 2019 than ever before in my life. I totaled 51 rounds this season. Honestly, I ended up playing a lot more than I anticipated coming into the year. Some of that is because I was selected to test the Callaway Epic Flash (thanks again, MGS!), but also because I ended up getting a very affordable membership at one of our local courses.

Additionally, I am lucky to work very close to a championship-caliber course and practice facility. I hit a bucket of balls and spent time in the short game area or putting green at lunch nearly every day from April to this past week.

2) Break 90

The last time I played golf consistently was my junior year of college. Playing three times a week for about 10 or 12 weeks in a row, I broke 90 once. I expected it would take some time before I’d ever do it again.

I ended up breaking 90 relatively early in the season, and I totaled 17 rounds of 90 or less out of 27 18-hole rounds played. I ended up breaking 80 once, too.

3) Walk Most of My Rounds

I bought a CaddyTek cart early in the season and walked almost all of my rounds. I even opted to walk when the rest of my foursome took carts on a few occasions.

My goals for 2020 are more measurable. My hope is that by setting more specific goals, I will improve my game faster.

1) Hit 55 Percent of Fairways in Regulation

I hit about 44 percent of fairways this season. I’ve seen differing numbers out there, but some older stats by TheGrint put 10-15 handicappers as hitting 55 percent of fairways in regulation.

image.thumb.png.01b04b47b7b3737542494627e51e393b.png

Removing scrambles and one round where I did not keep any statistics whatsoever, in only 13 out of 46 rounds did I hit more than 55 percent of fairways in regulation. In fact, I had more rounds (18) in which I hit less than one-third of fairways!

For my game, improving the accuracy of tee shots will dramatically affect my scores. My home course is heavily tree-lined. Poor tee shots are often left with no option other than to punch out back to the fairway. I punched out a total of seven times during the last round I played at my home course. That is seven strokes wasted on shots that did next to nothing to advance the ball toward the hole. (In my case, I ended up with a few extra strokes on top of those seven...). Simply keeping the ball in the fairway might have changed my score from the low 90s to something in the low-mid 80s.

2) Average 34 or Fewer Putts Per Round

I’ve posted around MGS a few times that I feel like I’m an OK putter, but I am starting to realize I might just be in denial!

Putts per round isn’t the best statistic in the world, but I do three-putt too often. I averaged over 35 putts per round in 2019, and not surprisingly, most of my lowest scores correlate with my best putting performances.

image.png.206011b30d6cb78977a3026a6ea609e9.png

In 609 holes of putting recorded with GAME Golf, I three-putted 86 holes, or about 14 percent of the time. Now, I’m not a PGA Tour player, but even the worst three-putter on tour last year (Cameron Champ) three-putted only 66 times in 1,368 chances!

Bringing my total putts per round down will require me not only to become better at all facets of my putting, but also will require me to improve my short game from 30 yards and in. Too often I hit poor chips or pitches that still leave me with long and/or challenging first putts. Getting the ball closer to the hole when I miss the green in regulation should bring this number down quickly.

3) Improve my Average Driver Carry to 250 Yards

image.thumb.png.19451340a793828ef7ac3e5e724e9b8e.png

Building consistency in my swing, specifically my driver swing, is a big priority for me. I had a few rounds this season where the driver was on fire, and I’d like to have more rounds like that in the future.

This goal is best measured on the range with my Swing Caddie SC200.

There is obviously a lot more to the game of golf than bombing the driver, but my hope is that increasing my swing speed and improving my mechanics helps throughout the bag, driver to wedge.

After all, carry is king, especially during my morning rounds and on a course as wet as mine is most of the year.

OK! It's time to revisit these season goals as I've maybe got one or two more rounds left in this season:

1) Hit 55 Percent of Fairways in Regulation

FIR.png.6efb66cb892ea7640ba37a3d4f780cef.png

I didn't reach this goal. This is basically the same dispersion as last season. I'm pretty disappointed in myself here, but not surprised. I really struggle getting off the tee. This is a focus point for this offseason, improving my long irons, driving iron and hybrid. Unfortunately, driver is nearly impossible to practice in the offseason because the heated bays are too narrow for me to swing comfortably.

2) Average 34 or Fewer Putts Per Round

puttsperround.png.9898a102afb80b18b275048f6573e3f5.png

Close! 34.3 putts per round. There were several awful rounds in there that drove up the average. I thought this might get better this year, but with COVID and working from home, I never committed to getting to a putting green to practice.

I recently purchased an Exputt putting simulator and also a new putter (L.A.B. Golf DF 2.1), so I plan on spending a lot of time this winter working on my putting.

3) Improve My Average Driver Carry to 250 Yards

image.png.d5b83d0a2f98a01e2e2746faad7f23d8.png

Success! My "good" drives now carry well beyond 250 yards, and my Arccos Smart Distance is 259 yards. I recorded a personal best 304-yard drive this season, and have hit several drives 275+ total yards.

It's not uncommon to hit 155 MPH+ ball speed and 247-252 yards carry on my FlightScope Mevo with range balls now.

There is still a lot of work to be done with the driver. Optimizing launch conditions through better face control (i.e. learning to hit it straight/turn it over right-to-left more consistently) should make this number even better. Realistically, I want to consistently see 160+ ball speeds (with range balls) next season.

I went over my Arccos data recently to find my three favorite/"best" holes from the 2020 season:

659722008_no17besthole.jpg.a1f8c5e6974267794c9c7a52fbd36033.jpg1890572167_no18besthole.jpg.d408505ced49197dd2fa4150a2c956f5.jpg

1) Par, Holes No. 17 + No. 18 (Tie)
Western Greens - August 23

It might be a bit unusual for a pair of pars to share the top spot on this year's list, but these two holes were clutch. Playing in the Cobra Connect 14-club challenge, I had just turned the bag over on No. 16 and knew I was playing very well. Needing a good finish for the challenge, I pumped two of my best tee shots of the year to the middle of each fairway and finished out with par.

The pars cemented my personal best round of 76 and a solid third-place finish in the weekly #CC4 challenge (darn you Arccos handicapping!).

2) Eagle, Hole No. 9
Western Greens - Sept. 1

The No. 9 hole at Western Greens is a short dogleg left par 5, but since the course's construction in the 1960s the growth of the trees along the fairway have negated eagle opportunities for all but the longest of hitters off the tee.

Typically, I don't hit driver on No. 9 because the fairway is only about 30 yards wide and a ball left or right by about five yards means a recovery shot is necessary. I was having a so-so round, so I elected to take my frustrations out on the driver and pumped one 268 yards dead center. I found all of the air in the tree guarding the dogleg with my 7 iron and then knocked down a tricky downhill chip for my only eagle of the season.

2088527648_minesbesthole.jpg.00b158a0adc7d9f859fe7b1d3779f172.jpg

3) Birdie, Hole No. 12
The Mines - Sept. 10

I actually had quite a few birdies to choose from this season, but this one sticks out because of the quality of both the tee shot and approach shot. Playing a new-to-me course during the Arccos Caddie Cobra Connect challenge, the AI selected 5 iron from the tee and 9 iron from the fairway. I hit both shots beautifully, landing the 9 iron just left of the hole and allowing it to run down the slope to 18 inches for a relatively stress-free birdie putt.

I have a rough idea. First things first, I need to drop about 12 pounds of weight that I added this summer to get back to where I was at the beginning of the season.

Last week I started lifting again, I should have never stopped. For the next three months or so I will be working through Greg Nuckols' "28 Programs" sheets, focusing on squats, deadlifts and bench press. I used them to great success last winter/early spring, and I've now moved on to the "intermediate" levels of both squats and bench press along with more deadlift volume.

I've been adding a lot of flexibility work in the morning before work and before I start lifting as well. Typically I do some form of a quick yoga in the morning and then I do mobility work from the Fit For Golf warm-up manual in the evening.

Once January rolls around I'm planning on shifting over to one of the Fit For Golf programs, most likely either the SuperSpeed program or the new one Mike is planning on releasing soon.

As far as swing stuff goes, I'm skipping October, but once November hits I will typically do one lesson per month with my swing coach. I try to get to the heated range once a week, but because it's about a 50 mile round trip it's very dependent on weather.

I'm going to do some Planemate work in my basement and garage, and I will start using my SuperSpeed-C club in January as well.

I have a new Exputt simulator for putting and that will get a lot of work over the winter as well.

Jokes aside, looks like a great plan.

I’m personally really excited for many months of Planemate protocols and the wider and more structured backswing it should help me groove.

I played my last round of the season last night, a quick nine hole walk. My home course has closed already for the season, I'm guessing many others won't be far behind.

Aided somewhat by the #CobraConnect Challenge and the coronavirus pandemic ruining other summer plans, my 2020 season eclipsed 2019 in every way. I played:

  • 51 18-hole rounds
  • 16 9-hole rounds
  • 1 9-hole practice round
  • 1 18-hole alternate shot round with @ncwoz
  • 1 18-hole two-person scramble

That's a total of 70 rounds of golf. With my four-over 40 last night, I'm ending the year with an estimated WHS handicap of 10.9. It's not quite where I wanted to be, but my game is in much better shape than when I ended last season thanks to lessons.

I wrote down some specific goals for the 2020 offseason and the 2021 season:

1) Long Iron Mastery

My home course takes driver out of your hand on several holes because the fairways are just too narrow. However, even with an iron in my hand, I am very unreliable off the tee. I lose over three strokes a round to a scratch golfer because of inaccuracy and penalties off the tee according to Arccos. My driver needs a lot of help, unfortunately the heated range bays are not wide enough to swing it comfortably. So, since I use irons/hybrids so often, one of my goals for the winter is to master tee shots with my 2 hybrid, 19 degree driving iron and 5/6 irons. Those clubs all get plenty of use from the tee throughout a typical round.

My goal is to see my Arccos driving handicap falling to less than 10 next season.

2) Putting

Same goal as last season. I still three putt way too often - nearly 16 percent of the time this season. I recently was fit for and purchased a L.A.B. Golf DF 2.1 putter, and I also acquired an EXPUTT putting simulator. We'll see if the additional practice translates to being a better putter.

Obviously, first putt distance plays a big role in number of putts, but I miss a lot of putts inside of 10 feet and would love to be much better in this area.

My goal is to see my Arccos putting handicap under 1 next season.

3) Speed / Fitness

I put on a little too much weight this summer from being neglectful of my diet. I'd love to shave about 15 pounds this offseason and continue my weightlifting work.

I plan on restarting the SuperSpeed C protocols sometime in January. I've set an goal of seeing 160 MPH+ driver ball speeds with my FlightScope Mevo on the range next summer.

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm officially switched into offseason mode after a 14-hole practice round this past Saturday in pretty cold temperatures. If the longer term weather forecast is correct, I may be able to get some more golf in on Black Friday, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I've been lifting for the past month or so and am glad to see most of my progress I made last winter/this past spring has not been lost. I'm not at @Getoffmylawn strength levels yet, but I'm slowly making progress and am stronger than I have been ever in my life before this point. My plan is to continue the "peaking" program I am on currently until around Christmas when I will be running a modified version of @Fit_For_Golf's Golfstrong workouts until the snow is gone.

The PlaneMate has been getting some use in the basement with whiffle balls. Despite the low ceilings I can practice my takeaway and shortened follow through, both of which the PlanteMate is very good at reinforcing. Additionally, I have been chipping into a cushion working on low point control. I switched to a reverse overlap chipping grip in October and it has made a world of difference in my consistency.

Starting tomorrow, Michigan is going into a modified COVID lockdown (not nearly as strict as in March), but I will be working from home again for at least the next three weeks and probably will be at home most days until spring. This means I can continue to workout at lunch and probably get my SuperSpeed training started a little bit earlier than I anticipated.

My goal is to get to the heated range once a week throughout the winter, weather permitting, to work on full swings. I need to make a decision about what irons I will be gaming next year. I've never 100 percent gotten along with the Cobra SpeedZone irons, and a few weeks ago I took out my Maltby PTMs for a practice round and really struck the ball well. As of right now the PTMs are winning the race to be in my bag at the start of next season.

I'm unhappy with my bag setup between the driver and 5 iron. I currently carry a 3 wood, 17 degree hybrid, and 19 degree driving iron/SpeedZone 4 iron (two to choose from). I typically design my bag around my home course, but I hate having so many "single use" clubs. The 3 wood is never used, the 17 degree hybrid is great off the tee but I struggled with it from the ground/fairway, and I generally like the driving iron but wish it was the lower lofted of the hybrid/driving iron combo I have going.

The Callaway Super Hybrid intrigues me. I've wondered if I could game the 17 degree version (perhaps turned down to 16 degrees), which might be easier to hit from the fairway than the 3 wood, but still be an option from the tee. I could then pair it with some sort of driving iron in the 18-19 degree range, and a regular hybrid around 21/22 degrees. I've been looking at the TaylorMade GAPRs and the Sub70 line of utility clubs and hybrids.

Just a thought. I doubt I will make any changes until early summer next year. But it's fun to look!

Not expecting you to give the full rundown, but can you elaborate on what the GolfStrong program entails from an exercise/frequency/sets & reps standpoint?

It consists of a lot of similar stuff to the exercises he has been posting on Twitter. But basically it's a three day per week workout with a mixture of flexibility work, heavy compound lifts (one or two per workout) and then some explosive movements with bands/balls/kettlebells.

To be honest, you'd probably find it quite light on volume compared to what you're running now. I do, too, but I'm always more interested in the flexibility/mobility work and the explosive exercises, which are things I don't do enough of at the moment.

Sounds good.  Come January, or whenever I hit the size goal I've got in mind, I do plan to slim down the weight volumes and replace with explosive exercises and power work.

Good luck in your offseason!  I'm guessing April before the weather will let you back out?

Missed this last week. April is probably the true start of our season, last year I would have been able to get out 3-4 times in March had we not shut down halfway through the month (I did play two 18s the first two weeks).
