Kirk Triplett Hat

fixyurdivot

Recommended Posts

I like the PING logo hat Kirk has been sporting of late, but I'll be dang if I can find a source. The design of this hat is different than many soft wide brims and I think I could make it work.  I wish I could reach out to Kirk and ask him.  Perhaps they are specially made for him by PING?  I've seen him wear the white, tan, and black.

Did some searches,  seems to be a tour only item based on what they tell people when the contact Ping.   it is called a Boonie hat;   if you were more brand agnostic,  I found one with a Titleist logo.

Maybe if we can get enough of us on here to request one, we could get PING to make some?!

Not sure if I would wear one, but I’ll cast a vote in favor for them to bring them to retail.

One would think they would offer them to the open market.  I'm kind of surprised I cannot find it.  With growing emphasis on protecting our largest organ from the sun, it would seem a great market.  Almost as good would be this hat offered with the MGS logo 👍.

Tilley are great hats and very similar but not the same as Triplets. I have 2 Tilleys original hats and 2 that are Tilley knockoffs.

Oddly enough I found the Tilley hats while looking for the “Triplett” hat. Still haven’t seen one in the wild.

I'm surprised that these hats aren't more popular in the US. My dermatologist says that the tops of the ears are a critical area since people often forget to put sunscreen on them. And since most golfers use baseball caps it makes for a common skin cancer area.

I never considered a hat of this style until we moved to FL and SWMBO kinda “suggested” I get one. Sun is on you 11 1/2 months of the year.

If you want a similar hat with a stiff brim, here’s your answer - brim is rock solid in front. I have one and it’s outstanding for golf, boating, and many other activities. Several styles, colors and sizes - I have a Sand Dune (light tan) Seahawk. Expensive but less than a Tilley.

I’ve seen them advertised and look good.

Tilley has a ton of hats available. Theres a store nearby that stock Tilleys and they many different styles. Some brims are stiffer, smaller, bigger etc.

Interestingly I was watching the Bermuda Tour today and one of the caddies had a Kirk hat with a Valspar logo on it. Prior to this thread I didn't pay much attention to the different hats.

Joel Dahmen wear a similar hat.  He is a cancer survivor, and I believe he wears an Imperial hat.

Being somewhat, ahem, follicly challenged I almost always wear big hats. I had one from Columbia but it was too floppy and just looked messy. I use it for yard work now.

I ended up with one from Outdoor Research which works well, didn’t break the bank either.

Quick update on Kirk's hat.  While at a PING Demo yesterday, one of the fitters was sporting the black PING hat.  I asked if these were available for sale and he said no, just for employees and sponsored pros.  He said they get asked about them quite often and was not sure why they've not been offered to the public.  That seems kind of odd don't you think?  It's not often that a product, one that is already being made, is in demand and a company chooses not to offer them 🤔.

I never wore the floppy big hats until a friend of mine talked me into it a couple of years ago. The 2 that I have are Pukka brand which one came from my home course and the other one came from a neighboring course. Now I have seen the Triplett hats on TV and wanted one but I thought what the heck. I basically took one of mine and spray starched the brim and ironed the heck out of it. Works good until it gets hot and humid and then it flops again. But then again around here the floppy hat Stenson type shades and cigar have became a trademark for me

I've got a hat that is very similar to that Ping hat that Triplett is wearing.  The only difference is the Ping logo is red instead of black.  It's my go-to during the middle of the day in the summer.

... I have loved soft brimmed boonie style hats ever since my dad used them in Viet Nam when he did 2 tours with Special Forces. He was awarded a Silver Star and at the ceremony gave me one of his hats and as a 5th grader, I wore it everywhere and until I finally lost it. He passed away 10 years ago and would be happy to see I still wear that same floppy style but in lighter colors with a wider brim. I don't like stiff brims so these floppy boonies work great in the Phoenix sun as long as the wind is around 10mph or less. Any stronger and I have to go to a baseball cap. Pretty rare for the wind top be less back in Chicago but when it is I always wear my floppy.

My Pukka hats have a detachable chin strap or cord strap would be a better description. If it is windy here I cinch it up and carry on. The strap does not bother me one iota I know some folks it does. I was always more or less a visor man then I got educated on skin cancers by a couple of friends of mine. And one knows you learn from your elders if you pay attention and most of the guys down here that play everyday wear some sort of wide brimmed hats

... Mine has a chin strap that I don't mind using either. But since it has a floppy brim, the wind can blow it down and it covers my eyes. Not good in the middle of a swing, chip or putt LOL!

They do pretty well in wind, best hats I’ve ever owned. Also bulletproof, hard to destroy them. I’m rough on hats.

The one I’m wearing in the pic vents pretty good. It does have a piece inside so it’s not wide open. Another Tilly I have is vented better than this one.
