Good “safe” picks, personally I’d have liked to see Conners over Day but, Day does have the experience for some younger/first time players. Either way, there were five players who really deserved a spot.

Tiger’s picks should be interesting tomorrow, as you could make a case for about 10 guys.

Wilson Staff C300 9.0* Fujikura Pro 58 stiff

Callaway Rogue 3W Mitsubishi Diamana D+ LTD 80 stiff

Mizuno MP-18 MMC FLI-HI 2 iron UST Mamiya Recoil 95 stiff

I think Day is a good pick, and I expect him to play well.  I would have liked Corey Conners over Joaquìn Niemann; I think he has been more consistent this year and playing well of late.

This could be a really close match this year... for a change.

I think Tiger's picks are pretty well set between 5 guys.

Himself
Gary Woodland
Tony Finau
Patrick Reed
Rickie Fowler

I think the first three are probably locks. Then it's between Reed and Fowler for the last spot.

I’d generally agree with that, I do like Fowler over Reed. Reed is a pairing nightmare, and they really don’t need another ego in that room. Either Fowler or Reed can produce great golf, but if one of them has an off week, you want Fowler in the locker room over Reed.

Tiger has a good relationship with Reed as well though. I don't see Kisner getting picked.

I think we might see Phil added as an assistant captain though, with Tiger likely being a playing captain. We'll find out at 7pm EST.

I'm not sure that Rickie is 100%, but I like him over Reed, plus TW and Rickie are buds.  If Rickie can't play, I expect Tiger to pick Kisner.

I'd like to see Kevin Na among the short list.  He plays with intensity and would be a good team player.

I agree.  The social media monster has been churning up the hate for Captain America.  Here's hoping Patrick runs the table and makes the haters look silly.

Reed's playing well and him and Tiger do have a good relationship. Depending on whether Koepka is recovered from his injury in time, I'm sure Fowler would get the call if Koepka can't go.

Reed has played well recently and despite underperforming, which could be said for the entire US team at last year's Ryder Cup, he is a really solid match play player.

Am I crazy? I like Reed! I’m not usually one for the outlier but I do like the underdogs. All this conjecture about him as a person still has me puzzled about its validity.

Regardless, the guy can flat out play. I like this pick.

Although Tiger has never been a huge help in any of these team events, this is the perfect event for Tiger to Pick himself. I mean he has to right?? The US team almost universally wins this event. If it was the Ryder Cup it would be a different story. Way more pressure, way more at stake at the Ryder Cup. I am not a fan of Reed, I think he is a cancer and probably the most hated PGA pro by both fans and other tour players. That being said, you cannot pick Fowler who has almost been non existent since about mid year.

If the international team somehow wins this, That could be really bad.

The International Team won at Royal Melbourne in 1998, so that could be a motivator.  The internationals have a pretty good team and if the USA plays as crappy as they did in the Ryder Cup, the internationals could win.  I'm sure they are going into the match with a "what have we got to lose" attitude.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

... This is from Golf Magazine and might clear up the reasons Reed is disliked by some. And this is all before his abrasive behavior towards others once he became a Pro:

Reed played one year of college golf at the University of Georgia before being dismissed from the team. In Shane Ryan’s book, Slaying the Tiger: A Year Inside the Ropes on the New PGA Tour, Ryan brings to light accusations of Reed cheating and stealing from teammates. Reed denied the accusations in a Golf Channel interview, saying he was dismissed for alcohol violations.

Blogger Stephanie Wei obtained a statement from Jason Payne, the assistant golf coach at Georgia during Reed’s year there.

“While getting to know Patrick through the recruiting process as a coach, a few character issues came to light, that we as coaches thought we could help Patrick with,” he said. “Once Patrick was on campus for a few months, it became clear that Patrick was not going to mesh with the make up of the team at that time, and he was dismissed from the team. There is no doubting the ability of Patrick as a golfer, it was Patrick as a person that we chose not to associate with. The story that has been reported by Shane Ryan is an accurate account of his college career at UGA—including the suspicions held by his former teammates.”

Reed transferred to his hometown Augusta State, but the smoke never fully cleared. Wie reported other instances of suspected cheating and a rift with teammates.

I think Reed is a well documented jerk. The stories about not talking to his parents, having the removed from events, his cheating, his crying on the course about "Jordan Speith would have gotten a drop". The move back, and I am not going to hit a shot till you leave. I wanted to like this guy. but I cannot.
