The annual donor raffle!

Many of you probably just got the email that the annual donor raffle is next Wednesday (November 13), beginning at noon EST. The raffle will be streamed live at this YouTube URL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb_sPx6wPkM&feature=youtu.be&ck_subscriber_id=614258273

For those who are new around here: at the end of each of the past few seasons, the MGS Testing Lab has a bunch of gear that they need to move out. As a way of showing appreciation to the donors who make this whole grand project possible, they draw random names from those who have donated to MyGolfSpy in the past year, and those winners get everything from balls to full sets of irons.

So this is as good a time as any to encourage you all to donate to MyGolfSpy. The regulars here know that MGS is doing something unique and special in the golf industry: data-driven, fact-publishing, no-fluff testing, getting real information in the hands of ordinary golfers like us. These last couple of years have been exciting for MGS. Just a couple of examples: the ball testing led to a very public commitment from Callaway to tighten their quality control; and "Most Wanted" logos popping up more and more in TV ads and in-store displays. People are recognizing the quality of the testing here. Truth produces authority.

For what it's worth, I'm writing this post mostly because I want you guys to know about the raffle. My own role at MGS is pretty small, but I got on board because I believe in the mission—I'm not shilling because I'm on board.

A reminder: as an added bonus for donating, we do take note of who donors are when we pick product testers. It's not automatic: you can go through the tests from the past year and see dozens of guys who aren't donors who have been picked to test. But it is a factor we consider when it comes to testing.

So because MGS is doing something worth supporting, and because you just might get something out of the raffle or Forum Testing, go donate!

I can only go by how it went in previous years; I'm not at the testing Lab, so if they change things up, I'll find out at the same time as the rest of you.

But they'll have an updated list of donors from the past year. Generally, they pull out a piece of gear, then ask the computer to spit out a random name, and they announced who's getting it. Sometimes they mix things up throughout for the live audience: they'll have a closest to the pin contest on the sim, and whoever guesses closest to the actual result wins something.

You don't have to be watching to win, but there's a level of excitement in watching and hoping for your name to be announced.

I second this notion! Donating to MyGolfSpy helps to support consumer driver, unbiased testing. The folks at HQ do an excellent job providing data driven facts about the equipment we all use to enjoy this wonderful game. Good luck to everyone!

I honestly would, but they announce real names, and I don't have a simple way to link everyone's actual names to their forum handles.

Yeah, that's the issue, as nearly 90% of the entries are Donors but not forum members.   But I do know a handful of real names and will try to update if I spot any.

One thing, I bet I'm pretty sure of is that the video/sound of this years auction based on the NPG episodes should be vastly improved over last year, it was tough to hear the names clearly at times.

I wasn't on the raffle last year so can't compare - but this year the squeaking noise is bit annoying - hope they clear it up soon.

Yeah, that is annoying, I heard the video guy say something about things being near the connection.  Hopefully they get it fixed.  Because other than that, it's a 1000% better sound quality than last year
