Utility/Driving Irons

With all the discussions lately with the new Wilson Utility, HMB 2 iron, and Most Wanted Test. Who out here is using a Utility/Driving iron?

 

I currently game a 16* Ping Eye2 1 iron. I have had it for many years and primary use it to punch out of trouble but do hit off the tee or fairway at times.

... I have owned and played many including Cobra Utility, TM UDi, Exotics CB-X Ironwood and CB Pro Tungsten, Wilson FG Tour, Srixon U65, MP Fli Hi and just put a GAPR Mid in my bag. They are all very good and my favorite has been the UDi 2 iron for distance off the tee because it can be crazy long and Cobra Utility for all around performance. I am hoping the GAPR is a combo of both. I found them all to be more forgiving than a standard 2 or 3 iron and much more versatile.

Not technically a “utility” iron. But at 17.5° it works wonders.

As I look for a replacement versatility is definitely the main quality I want to make sure I have. The Ping is on the forgiving side but I feel like there is so much I can gain upgrading.

Tour Edge HL4 18* 2 iron-wood.  Is it a hybrid?  Is it a utility iron?  It's a floor wax and a dessert topping.

Honestly, it's so ugly, I think it just repels the ball, but I love it.  Pretty good off the deck as well as a tee.

That’s the way I feel about my 545 3i.  Bent it to 19 and with the PX shaft, it’s a low rocket.  It’s technically not a utility/driving iron, but it’s more forgiving and hotter than the X Forged UT I was messing with.

I play the original cobra Utility iron. The chrome version. I have it set to 18*. Before that I had a mizuno MPH5 1 iron that was a laaser beam at 16 degrees. I just wanted a bit more height.

I have the Titleist U 500 in the 3 and 4 irons, I have used the Callaway Apex Utility as well.

I had the Mizuno MMC Fil-Hi last year, 20*, with the Veylix Rome Shaft and I hit BULLETS with it. My 20* hybrid was more versatile, so I sold the MMC. It was a great club, though!!!!

Awesome I'm not exactly sure what degree but I thought I looked it up and was 16* I should have it measured and find out. Have had this thing for 10 years or so.

I have been using the Ping G410 2 Crossover this season and I have really been enjoying it. I play it at 18* and 40" long and it is equally good off the tee and the deck. Great club - forgiving, workable and long.

The Karsten 1 iron I have has the loft imprinted on it. I’ll have to post a pic of it the next time I am home.

I know this probably isn't on anybody's radar but for the price, quality, and playability.. oh and just for the sake of being able to try out this style of UDI without digging too deeply into your pockets you should look up the Dynacraft Driving Iron. You can put one together online for less than $40 or buy the head for $17 and throw your favorite Hybrid or iron shaft in it. 

I have the 18° shafted up with a KBS tour 90 S flex and it will without a doubt hold up to ANYTHING on the high-end shelf.

That's a great price $37 for stock shaft and grip hope your hitting it will sounds like your luck is increasing which where we all hope improves

It's about as forgiving as my ex-wife, or ex-sister-in-law (who very closely resembles the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz).

I game the Adams Pro DHy 18* from 2014. If you can't find one at your local shop, they've been re-branded as the Taylormade GAPR Lo. The Adams is about $230 cheaper on eBay. I think I found my 18* head on eBay for $15. DHy is fade bias and one of the most consistent ball flights off the tee. Being a lefty, I can aim down the right side of the fairway and find myself near the center of the fairway 90% of the time.

I didn't say it was in my bag.  I just said I still had it.  I used to tee off with that 1 iron when I was in high school, but it hasn't been in the bag in several decades at least.
