So I get to the golf course this morning, pull my 4 wood out of the bag on the range and this is what I see

Only hurt emotionally, as I never got to swing it this morning.  I picked it up out of the bag and that is what I got.  Was just wierd because I was hitting it great just yesterday.  One of the many mysteries of golf I suppose.

On the flip side, I ended up replacing it with a PING G400 fairway 3 wood that was on sale for $199.99, probably due to PING discontinuing the G400 and blowing them out.  I had it on the launch monitor and was shaping it both ways with a draw and a cut, and hitting it 230-240 including roll consistently, so we'll see how it does putting it into actual play on the course.

Wonder if it was the result of the last time a grip was put on - maybe the clamp was a bit too tight and fractured the graphite fibers?

It’s possible, but I would never clamp anywhere near that high when doing a regrip. Cracking a shaft was always my biggest worry when doing grips. Luckily in 6 years no issues.

Well, the good news out of this whole ordeal is that I put the new 3 wood into play yesterday and the PING G400 3 wood has exceeded all initial expectations dramatically.  Long and straight, and I just hit it really good and consistent.  The main thing to take away from all of this is that this new club is actually more reliable (at least initially) then my old 4 wood, as it was going straight pretty much every time I wanted it to.  If it's this straight consistently, then I can use it on tight driving holes if I really need to hit the fairway and distance isn't an issue.  But overall, a happy end result to what otherwise was a very sad event.
