At 90+ mph, I'd say its dangerous no matter where you were trying to hit the batter.  Besides, how many batters do you think you'd have to plunk before the organization decides to stop using the video?  Remember, after you've loaded the bases, the next guy is going to know what your're planning to throw him.
I know, you can definitely change signs.  The Nationals say they had 5 sets of signs for each pitcher, complex enough that the catchers had to wear "placards" on their arm to keep them all straight.  That seems excessively complicated, and can only serve to make an already slow game even slower.

I understand this argument but now that I’ve seen the data let’s talk through it. A hard throwing pitcher throws around 95 to an on balance hitter 60 feet away who is expecting a ball thrown in his direction.

A team stealing signs has the potential to hit a ball with an exit velocity of 115 at an off balance pitcher 55 feet away who may or may not be ready for it.

If you suspect your signs are being stolen you should stick it in the guy’s ear to protect yourself and everyone else who comes after.

A couple of up and in fastballs when curve has been signaled and all of this ends. I’m stunned that no one figured that out.

I’m also stunned by the splits - I totally misjudged how big a difference knowing what pitch was coming might be at the major league level.

The draft picks are huge punishments

And now Beltran is out. Not even sure this is the end of the fallout.

Louis Tiant was here last night and he had no said he had no problem with “chin music”. When he pitched there was no designated batter.

$5 million fine I don’t think is a huge deterrent but yes the draft picks are big deal especially if the team has traded away the farm for established players.
