Dlow206's Quest to Break into the 80s

For me, its usually some sort of unique thought/feel that really only makes sense to me that makes something stick. For the longest time, i couldn't get rid of the inside takeaway. I could perform various drills and make it work for the swings during those drills, but couldn't get it to stick at all. I finally discovered that to not take it away inside, i feel like i am lifting my right arm only about 45 degrees straight out in front of me. Thats really the only thing I actively feel until i get to the top of the backswing. I don't feel like i am actively turning or anything (but not trying to restrict the turn either). This thought probably won't make sense or work for others, but its the thought in my brain that gets by body to do what it is supposed to do.

I hear ya and what makes sense to one may not for someone else. That exaggerate feel doesn’t mean it’s really what’s happening. I’m always amazed how what I feel in my swing when I look at video doesn’t match

Amen to this. I think I spent three or four different lessons getting told to do something about three or four different ways when it came to my transition. And even then I still didn't get it right until I started to use the Planemate more to literally feel what I was supposed to be doing.

@dlow206 - Lots of progress in here! Excited for your weather to get better and see the results on the course!

I've been checking in on your progress here periodically and definitely agree you're swing looks better from the original posts.  To me, you have now attained a solid level of fundamentals and, from here on, it will be working more subtle changes that best fits with your natural swing tendencies.  Hope we can see this "Derrick No-turn" guy at this years PNW Spy Meet-up.

Had sort of a realization that has mentally set me back. Realized that the camera angle i was using to record my down the line swing makes my swing look better than it does.

The swing has made some good progress and you can see where the practice is paying off.

Thanks guys. Changing the video angle to a proper dtl angle did make me realize that i started to do some weird things (not shown in the above video). My backswing started to become too outside in the takeaway, which didn't look outside from the prior angle. Also noticed that when I lacked depth in my backswing, I started getting a bit steep. Took note of those things before making the above video, so its probably a good thing that I reviewed video from this angle.

@dlow206if you look for the bad in every swing, you’ll always find it.

on the other hand, if you look for the good in every swing, you’ll always find it.

try focusing on the great progress you’ve made and not the minor faults in each individual swing.

Matthew wolf and Jim Furyk are two pretty good examples of pros who don’t have the prettiest swings, but they get to the same spot at impact , they just get there differently than most
