As @cksurfdudealluded to, the trick and challenge with them is finding the right coach among the staff. I've had a great experience at GolfTec, but I did my research on their site...among all of their bios, some looked okay, but one guy was the Nebraska PGA Teacher of the Year five times. Kind of an easy decision. Even having the credentials didn't mean I would gel with the guy, but I got lucky and I did. And he's only broken out one training aid, a Tour Striker Smart Ball. Yeah. I did the research as well. My guy had all the accolades. PGA, Director of the facility, Section Player of the Year, college wins..Etc Just shows you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. Maybe one of the “less accomplished” guys there is on his way to becoming the next Billy Harmon or Chris Como. Maybe i would have clicked better. Who knows. But i like the guy I have now and look forward to his schedule easing up a bit. JFish350
I should mention that I have had lessons from Golftec in the past. My first 2 coaches were great. First one was a young kid mid 20's and he helped a ton. He moved to Colorado, total bummer for me. The second guy was pretty good as well. He actually fitted me for a driver at zero cost. I bought the driver at different retailer for less with the exact specs and still play that driver today. I have tried new drivers in the past year and none of them were any better than what I have. Demo day for Callaway and he told me to stay with what I have. That all said, I had no problem going back to Golftec. Everything the first two coach's did is now history. I am going back through the old lessons and see what I can pick up on and fix. I agree with the flattened out swing plan the damn noodle has me on. I went to the range yesterday and purposely what felt step with my swing. What a difference it was for me. Straighter, longer and the dispersion was much tighter. Good luck fellas, I hope you all figure it out. cksurfdude 1 Quote Sub 70 949 D 9* HZRUDS 60G 6.5 smoke RDX shaft. GolfSpy AFG
So I know a teaching pro who told me a great story. He once was about to give a lesson, and when he was approaching the guy he watched him loudly yell and scold some kids near him who were bashing some balls and having a little fun...kids were 10-12ish. The pro watched him take 5-7 swings, then told him “I want you to do this drill. Hold the club in your right hand only, and swing it back and forth parallel to parallel, and feel your forearm rotate. Do this for 20 minutes.” Pro then went back inside for a while, and eventually came back out when 20 minutes had passed. When the student said he thought he had it down, the pro said “Good, here’s your money back, go play tennis and don’t ever come to my course and yell at kids just trying to have fun again.” silver & black, JFish350, Tom the Golf Nut and 5 others 4 1 3 Quote Driver: TSR2, Ventus Blue 6 S, 65g Stiff FW: TSR2 3w, 15, Ventus Blue 7 S, 70g Stiff Hybrids: Apex Pro 3H, Ventus Blue 8 S, 80g Stiff Stealth DHY 4H, Ventus Blue 8 S, 80g Stiff Irons: SMS 5-6, SMS Pro 7-PW, Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff Wedges: SM9 48 F Grind, 52 F Grind, 56 M Grind, Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff Putter: Sri-Hot 5K Triple Wide, Stroke Lab shaft Ball: Pro V1 Click here for my HONMA TR20 Official Review! GolfSpy AFG
I have another GolfTec lesson this Friday. I never signed up for a plan, just pay-as-I-go, and the plan is to hit short iron, long iron, and driver, and get his thoughts/prescription on what to focus on over the coming offseason months. (And, I hope to see some swing speed driver when it's time to let the big dawg eat.) The combo/reinforcement of the visuals seems to be working for me. The only training aid we've used (so far?) is an "Impact Trainer" ball, which is effectively like a Smart Ball but solid and with indentations for your forearms to grab it more easily. GolfSpy AFG
I posted about this elsewhere but I had a largely positive experience this past Friday at GolfTec. The photo on the left is a good swing, the right is the old/bad. Basically my arms are too folded up at impact leading to inconsistent contact, and the "good" follow-through on the left is the result of better extension of my arms at impact and better/taller posture. Great lesson as always. First time I've had to wear a mask during the lesson which was a drag, but sign of the times... sirchunksalot, cksurfdude, Kenny B and 2 others 5 Quote Driver: TSR2, Ventus Blue 6 S, 65g Stiff FW: TSR2 3w, 15, Ventus Blue 7 S, 70g Stiff Hybrids: Apex Pro 3H, Ventus Blue 8 S, 80g Stiff Stealth DHY 4H, Ventus Blue 8 S, 80g Stiff Irons: SMS 5-6, SMS Pro 7-PW, Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff Wedges: SM9 48 F Grind, 52 F Grind, 56 M Grind, Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff Putter: Sri-Hot 5K Triple Wide, Stroke Lab shaft Ball: Pro V1 Click here for my HONMA TR20 Official Review! JFish350
We have worked out a deal with a new coach, I am still extremely hesitant to go back but They know more than I do so here we go. the "deal" new coach and a free one hr lesson. When I go to the range or on the course my miss is always a draw or hook. Rarely will I miss right with a fade or slice. On the sim at golf tec everything is right and I mean everything. I really have to over exaggerate to get the ball to draw and impossible to hook the ball, not that I want that, but just saying. I have told this to both coaches, I am wondering if the issue is the simulator is right side biased if thats even possible. My HR lesson consisted of half swings trying to draw the ball. I am going to do what they ask and see where it goes. Bring on 2021 have a safe New Years fellas and ladies. I have to admit I myself sometimes have a hard time trusting the numbers on a sim. cksurfdude
Haven't updated in a while... Definitely making progress with my full swing .. in the learning studio .. while, not surprisingly .. the results have yet to consistently show up on the course. That said, I did have my PB 9-hole round about a week ago - a 41 (+5) - and that was with one penalty off the tee (on the last hole, too!). Here's an 8i swing from a recent lesson (09-01-2021) ... https://s3.amazonaws.com/golftec_lessons/lessondata/700/700633297/1024817331/swing1/swing_analysis_desktop.mp4 Still have *plenty* to keep working on - including not lifting the arms too much on the backswing, extending the arms fully coming into impact, keeping the weight shift moving target-ward throughout the whole swing, not bending the upper body forward/the hips back after impact, and etc etc etc!! But compared to where I'd started this is a lot of progress. We do mix in an occasional short game lesson - eg. work on better contact, work on distance control; and coming up in about two weeks I have an outdoor playing lesson scheduled .. looking forward to that! sirchunksalot, GolfSpy AFG, mwr57 and 2 others 4 1 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... I’ve been thinking about doing the same, but if memory serves it ain’t cheap… Ha no golf is certainly a co$$tly undertaking! I have a bunch of lesson "credits" available - note that one lesson credit = a ½ hour lesson and that a playing lesson of 9 holes = 5 credits. Your cost per credit depends on what package you buy (larger packages give you a lower per credit pricing), and if you buy during one of their sales (recommended as you get a -15% discount off standard pricing). Also it's not private - there will be one or two other students in the same lesson. But definitely am looking forward to it .. hoping to pick up a number of good tips about selecting and planning different shots around the course, particularly on approaches and short game. We'll see .. let ya know..! cnosil, Kenny B, GolfSpy AFG and 1 other 4 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... I’ve been thinking about doing the same, but if memory serves it ain’t cheap… Oops! So sorry for the way too delayed feedback. Briefly ... .. way worth it for me; great learning experience .. instructor had a few pre-planned on course situations he wanted to cover, beyond that he was totally open to any and all questions about any aspect of the game at any point during the round (of 9 holes) .. going to do it again soon One negative but this is neither GolfTec's nor the instructor's fault - the course that my GT Center has an arrangement with is up to an hour+ drive for me each way, depending on stoopit LI traffic jams. One other item that may or may not be a negative to you - it's a semi-private lesson, not private; the GT playing lessons take two people at a time. It's up to the coach's discretion to try to take two people of approximately similar playing abilities .. so they're each benefiting from the same set of instructions. One on course bonus - if you want to think of it that way - was that the wind picked up and was pretty strong all over the course .. especially in more exposed areas .. so we had a chance to work on into the wind, wind coming in from either side and downwind shots. sirchunksalot and GolfSpy AFG 2 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... cksurfdude
Wanted to post an update - still have a loooonngg ways to go to get a "good" (quote-unquote) and "repeatable" swing, but it *is* becoming more effective when actually out playing This clip from a recent lesson shows us working on many of the same fundamentals we have been for months, including ... .. not getting too "lifty" or high in the backswing .. coming down on an in-to-out path .. keeping the club on-plane .. extending the arms and wrists into and through impact .. continually shifting body weight target-ward through the swing .. not rolling the wrists going back nor especially thru impact .. etc etc & etc!! ^ I know a lot of people object to the noodle but I find it a useful visual aid / reminder. It's been a bit of a journey to get to this point ... I'm starting to really get an idea of the things I need to work on and also of where I need to be focusing when playing. cnosil, sirchunksalot and GolfSpy AFG 3 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ...
