Driver swingweight and total weight

I regularly check on the TXG videos but haven't found a lot that interested me lately.   The one that posted a couple of days ago probably has a lot of relevance with the recent talk of shortening drivers.   The video dives into the impact of changing swingweight and total weight of a driver by changing clubhead weights and grips.  Cliff Note summary:  Changing grips can impact how your driver feels and performs.

People really don't think about how much grips can alter swing weights. It's a really good video.
Everyone will react differently to changes in both swing and static weights, which is why it is so important to get fit and not assume what works for someone will work for another.

In the last three years, each time I changed grips I made sure the new ones going-on were within a gram or two of the ones coming off. My fitter had gone over this with me when choosing clubs at some point and it stuck with me. I can’t think of how many times over the last 10 years I switched to grips that were significantly lighter/heavier not really thinking about all of this.

It does make a difference--- One of the reasons why if you look at a Maltby or Hireko catalog or on line it lists grip weights. Absolutely balance point weight and static weight can make a difference. It makes a lot of difference in putters. A lot of times when messing with classic clubs the grip will be worn out and slick. Now if it is a rubber grip I try to get it off in one piece if not several but trust me I will weigh it and try to match a new grip up with the appropriate weight. This sounds anal but I have been blessed or cursed with an uncanny sense of feel and I can tell the difference. even though I have a good SW scale I never SW my personal clubs I go strictly by feel.

The thing I found the most interesting is how he pushed the first shot with the heaviest club and hooked the first shot with the lightest club. Even though they had the same SW! I like to look at the first shots because he has no chance to alter his swing to how the club feels. Both clubs D4.5 and static weight is 41+g difference. He mentioned that heavier tends to inhibit him closing the face and lighter tends to promote him closing the face. Goes to show how important total weight is compared to SW.

Great video!
