The .96 multiplier was removed by GHIN.

The 0.96 multiplier was removed by the World Handicap System, which would tend to increase Handicap Index.  At the same time, we now use the best 8 scores of the last 20, instead of the best 10, which tends to lower the index.

Or you can check the Association website, or the USGA website here:

This shows that all of Ohio is in the inactive season. If you go south to someplace where posting IS active, you should post those scores.

I went from a 13.6 to a 14. It's a non-posting time here in Michigan so that is just an updated calculation to my 2019 season, I'm guessing.

That's correct, your entire scoring history was retained within GHIN, and was used to calculate your new HI, with a slightly different formula.  The old system averaged the best 10 differentials (out of your most recent 20), and multiplied the result by 0.96.  The new WHS averages the best 8 differentials of your last 20, with no "multiplier".

Makes complete sense to me.

I'm interested to see how my handicap fluctuates throughout the season based on my play. I appreciate that they are working to try and improve the system so it is the same everywhere in the world. I know it will have its bumps and bruises along the way, but believe it is going to overall good for the game.

Based on what I'm seeing and reading, they're getting close to eradicating the initial bugs in the systems.  Apparently a number of Associations were late in getting all of the par and handicap numbering info input.  California still doesn't have Hole by Hole stuff ready yet, Virginia and North Carolina seem to be good.  Apparently the system tried to re-establish par for many courses, based just on individual hole yardages from each tee.  That seems to have been corrected.  Apparently there a few minor issues still being worked on, but from what I've seen, GHIN will be substantially improved.

Here in Oregon, we're in "off season" and not posting, but I'm playing with the mobile app which OGA has updated to the latest GHIN app.  I'm liking what I'm seeing, but I'm seeing a few glitches (I think).  Hard to really tell with limited playing with the app.  We won't start posting until March, although I did post a few this off season while playing in Southern California.  Looking forward to seeing how things progress.  By the time we start posting here, the glitches will likely be smoothed out.

It took a few days for GHIN to get up and running properly, and for most of the State Associations to get all of the course data input.  My guess is that the Grint couldn't really start their integration process until the main USGA services were running  properly.  I have to believe that they get all of their course info from the USGA database, they don't do that independently.  If they didn't really get started until yesterday, or maybe today, the 15th seems pretty reasonable.

I went from a +2.1 to a +2.4.  Down .3 with the change.  Non posting time here as well.  It will be interesting to see how this goes playing in tournaments and how tournament rounds are calculated.

Competition scores should be posted just like any other score, including adjustment (for handicap posting only) to a maximum of Net Double Bogey on each hole.  The should be entered as a "Competition" score.  C scores won't be analyzed separately, like Tournament scores were previously, but a Handicap Committee will be able to compare your Competition record with the other scores you post.

Mine dropped a stroke from 7.0 to 6.0.

This isn’t surprising given that I play many of my rounds up - I’m not certain how the “par” thing works yet because the differentials that I saw per round didn’t necessarily make sense.

Oh well it will be what it will be. Nearly all of my competitive golf comes from where I play in league and they will always use my league handicap which remains a 6.8 differential or 4 strokes for 9, heading into the season this April.

The "par thing" won't have any effect on your index, other than to change the maximum hole score on a few holes.  And it the (CR-Par) term adjusts your Course Handicap (which it does if par is different from the Course Rating), it will adjust all players who go off the same tee identically.

For 9 hole rounds, the recommendation is a little different under the new system.  As most courses have each 9 rated, the USGA recommends using the Slope for that particular 9 to calculate your index.  Most times this won't have any effect, but if the two nines have a significant difference in the Slope, it just might.  Its even possible that someone who is a 14 handicap for the 18 would get 6 strokes on the front and 8 strokes on the back if he played 9 holes.  This is 6.1b for anyone who cares to read the actual Rule. https://www.usga.org/handicapping/roh/2020-rules-of-handicapping.html

previous: 1, 7, 13, 17

current: 0, 5, 11, 16
 

indexes stayed pretty close to the same if I recall, at least not significant changes. I give 2 less shots so I like it.

Mine changes less than a tenth.  My ninth and tenth best differentials were such that they nearly perfectly offset the removal of the 96% in the calculation.  

Biggest change for next year will be ESC.  All three par 5 holes on my course are in the top 7 hdcp holes, the net double will make an 8 my adjustment threshold, instead of the 7 it was in the old system.

I'm guessing that at your handicap, you don't double bogey any of those holes all that often.

It's true, though one of them has a fair bit of water, both short of green and interrupting the fairway, and some OB.  It's short enough that it just makes it a 3 shot hole most of the time.  But, if you get sloppy, or Mr Snappy makes an appearance...

I hear ya...although I carry an 8 handicap, I rarely get through a round without at least one or two double bogey holes.  I just need to make more birdies to make up for the stupid holes I have
