Gman24
I play Snell MTB Black. They feel great off the driver, they don't over spin on my iron shots and I really like how they feel off the putter. If I am playing a Captain's Choice, I will use the MTB X for a few more yards, more shot shaping with irons, I just have to be aware of spin on the greens. yale17, jkkt and Mtbryant01 3 Quote Driver: G410 LST 9 +1 Flat w/Tour AD DI 6X Orange 3 Metal: M2 13 degree w/Tour AD DJ 7X Orange Hybrid: 818 21 4-PW: MP 20 w/Dynamic Gold X100 Wedges: 50-54-58: Mizuno MP T20 w/DG S400 Putter: Joseph SS303 w/Super Stroke Fatso 5.0 Ball: MTB Black C130 S Link to comment

mooremikea
I have played both and find they perform very similar for me. (MTBx and Maxfli Tour) At full price it would be Snell they are a better value. However, Dicks has been discounting the Maxfli balls. Currently they are buy 1 get one free so they are under $20 a dozen. Don't see how you could get a better ball for the money. There have been other promos at 2 for $40 and 2 for $50. Nolan220
I was playing the Snell MTB -X ball and really liked it, when MGS sent out the email about the Mafli tour x ball was on sale at Dicks awhile back I decided to try them and some odd reason I feel like I can control the Maxfli ball little bit better then the snell ..I feel like the snell was longer but I just felt like I couldn't control it.... might just be me though. HeathS16
I have played both. Both preformed well for me shot 2 of my best rounds with Snell but Maxfli has been very consistent. Honestly they are two very good golf balls so whatever is on sale is what I’m using. Erik-M
I have been playing snell for 2 years now and absolutely love them, I also have played vice pro plus this winter in Arizona. I used the same ball for 3 rounds and performance never dropped. Although once I brought it up, I shanked the ball into a pond. So my advice would be snell or vice, and don't get cocky! cjeffs12
I played the Snell MTB-X this weekend, and it was a little wet but the carry off the tee seemed as good as my Bridgestone B XS. The spin on the greens were as good as well, I actually got a couple to spin back on some 40-60 yard pitch shots. I was very impressed. mooremikea
What does everyone think of Tony saying not to play matte golf balls in the most recent podcast? The Maxfli golf balls would fall in that category and now I am questioning my choice. MTB-X might become my ball until MGS finds something wrong with it. I am not going to buy in bulk until this year's golf ball test is released. I am not going to buy in bulk until this year's golf ball test is released. Maxfli isn't exclusively matte, they make traditional finish balls as well. Matte finish never appealed to me anyway. Knowing they don't perform as well when wet it just another reason to avoid them IMHO. I'm about due to buy another 4-5 dozen Snells - but like you I'm also waiting for the MGS study to come out. I'm hoping/expecting them to say MTB's are comparable to Pro V1's - but Pro V1 has the edge in consistency. I've seen earlier studies from other sources that suggested no one has better consistency than Titleist tour level balls (others may be equal, but not better). We'll see... I’ve been playing Snell MTB Blacks as long as they’ve been sold. I never tried the MTB-X because I did try and didn’t like the MTB Red, a little too much spin. But I just ordered a dozen MTB-X to try, shouldn’t skip them because of MTB Red. mooremikea 1 Quote Titleist TSR2 11° HZRDUS Red CB 50 6.0 w Lamkin UTx Midsize Titleist TSR2 16.5º HZRDUS Red 60 CB 6.0 & TSR2 21º HZRDUS Black 4G 70 6.0 w Lamkin UTx Midsize Mizuno JPX923 HMP 4-GW, T22 54.12WS, T22 58.04DC w Lamkin ST+2 Hybrid Midsize Evnroll EV5.3 Maxfli Tour & ProV1 Ping Pioneer - MGI Zip Navigator AT Payntr X 002 LE, Ecco Biom C4, Payntr X 001 F (Mesh) Link to comment
aerospace_ray
I play Snell MTB-X and its my current number one. However, I did buy a dozen of the Maxfli's several months ago and tested. Good ball, but for some reason I did not putt as well with it and the feel was a little less to my likening compared to the Snell MTB-X. Quote Link to comment
Guests Guest Delete Posted May 23, 2020 Guests Share Posted May 23, 2020 I'd go with Snell based solely on reputation, results, and motivation. Maxfli is a budget brand that may perform well but I wouldn't trust them to be as consistent without a track record. Quote Link to comment

fixyurdivot
I was among the testers last year for the MaxFli Tour and Tour X balls. Here is the link to mine and the other testers reviews. At last years PNW Golf Spy Meet-up, @Thin2wingave me a sleeve of MTX-Black to try (he was among the Snell testers). For me, it was a complete toss-up between the two and both fit my game as well as ProV1's. I find the ProV1 (ProV1x), like Bridgestone tour balls, to be a bit more durable. That seems a trivial difference except that I'll bet more golfers swap balls due to marring than anything else. To be fair, I have limited play with the Snell and would love to hear from those who play them how they compare in the durability department. So in answer to your question, from a tried and true "best bang for the buck consumer" like myself, it is really hard to beat the $19.99/dozen sale price DSG offers on the MaxFli Tour and Tour X. If not on sale, I'd probably give the nod to Snell simply based on its pedigree.
