SmoothG
My gamer is the Oncore Elixr. I love it... best feel ever, perfect amount of spin for my game. My only issue is that is slightly shorter than some other balls I have used but no big deal I use it anyway. That said, when I play in scrambles and such I'd like to get a little more distance if I can and I usually find that with the Titleist Velocity. Only problem is that its slightly too hard and doesn't spin. Is there a ball that is very much like the Velocity but maybe is just a smidge softer (only a little) and has a smidge more spin? Shankster
Try the Tour Soft. It will play Jedi mind tricks on you. From the Titleist advertising it sounds like exactly what you are looking for. A touch softer, with a touch more spin. The Wilson Duo Pro or the Q Star Tour might fit the bill too.
bens197
I’m an Elixr player as well and while I don’t have the same experience as you, I will say that the Duo Pro would be a good start. hckymeyer
I guess first question is why you are looking for a different ball just for scrambles? Scrambles aren't won off the tee, they are won on the greens. I would think switching to a different ball that goes longer and spins more could have a negative affect on approach shots and putting. That said I'd be looking at quality urethane cover balls, the new Bridgestone B series has some good buzz, Snell MTB, Srixon Z Star series and of course the Pro V's are all great balls that don't sacrifice distance for spin. Check out this article from MGS for some great info on golf balls https://mygolfspy.com/most-wanted-golf-ball/ Shankster and bens197 2 Quote Driver: SLDR w/ Fujikura Ventus Black 3w: '16 M2 hl w/ Diamana D+ 82 5w: Launcher HB w/ HZRDUS Yellow Hybrid: 22 deg. I'm with Alan on this. My normal gamer is PRO V1X but in really cold weather (40* temps) I switch to Tour Soft @SmoothG Now as to use in a scramble - not sure I quite understand unless you're out driving your partners by a whole bunch. I typically think of a scramble as a strategy game especially if you're playing 'step aside'. If we're playing that game we may take a shorter distance ball if we know that the next person hitting is better with their fairway or short game. Another way to think about the strategy in that (step aside) game is think about the hole from the green backwards - making sure that the best putter doesn't have to step aside on the green, then the best short gamer, etc. etc. Shankster and HardcoreLooper 2 Quote Left Hand orientation SIM 2 D Max with Fujikura Air Speeder Shaft Cobra Radspeed 3W/RIptide Shaft 410 Hybrids 22*, 26* Cobra Speed Zone 6-GP/Recoil ESX 460 F3 Shafts SM7 54* Wedge Glide 3.0 60* Wedge O Works putter V3 NX9-HD - 4 Wheel EZGO TXT 48v cart - too many shoes to list and so many to buy And BAG Boy Golf Balls: Vice Pro Plus 2020 Official Tester Beginning Driver Speed - 78 2019 Official Tester 410 Driver 2018 Official Tester C300
HardcoreLooper
Don't sacrifice the stopping power of urethane. But feel free to sacrifice the expense and check out Snell's urethane balls, especially the MTB-X. I was a dyed-in-the-wool Pro V1X guy until @JohnSmalls put a sleeve of these in a prize box for me. I haven't looked back. In fact, I'm reviewing them in the AlignXL review right now. By the way, the pink Velociraptor is my rock of choice in the Hard Rock Challenge. GB13
I concur with most of the posters above that you shouldn’t give up the stopping power of urethane. From my experience, I’d say the Q-Star Tour and the Tour Soft are the best of both worlds. I think you are right, I shouldn't give up the control I have around the green and I'm gonna make sure to keep the Elixr in play for all rounds, no matter the format. jackpjobst
I play the Elixr now as well. Great ball at a better price! The Velocity has also served me quite well, too. bens197
