Billy-Bo-Jim-Bob
Hey folks: I'm considering new wedges this season. Currently I play 3 wedges. My iron set PW is Titleist 990 at 47 degrees (135 yards). Vokey SM4 50 degrees (120 yards) and Vokey SM4 56 degrees (100 yards). I have a higher ball flight in all clubs, including wedges and spin it in a good range. I hit the PW very consistent yardage, but I notice that my Vokey's can sometimes balloon a bit and lose 10 yards in carry. Could be that I'm releasing a hair early and adding loft with not great contact. Anyway, would like to find new 50 and 56 wedges that are designed to flight a bit lower and hopefully get more consistent carry #'s and contact. Any suggestions on what I should demo/buy are appreciated. MGoBlue100
There have been a bunch of different wedges reviewed here by MGS staff and some of us hacks. I personally was part of the Ping Glide wedge review in 2017. Obviously there have been some tweaks by Ping on these to the current model, but they are by far the best wedges I've ever had in the bag. Definitely recommend that you at least give the Ping Glide's a whirl. Billy-Bo-Jim-Bob and Larryez 2 Quote "Where'd it go?" "Right in the Lumberyard..." Any suggestions on what I should demo/buy are appreciated. there are some shafts designed to help lower flight, but generally club speed, angle of attack, and loft delivered at impact determine height/launch angle. The simplest way to lower flight is decreased loft at impact to lower launch angle. Consistent carry and contact is swing related and just something you have to practice. tony@CIC and Billy-Bo-Jim-Bob 2 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: Sacks Parente MC 3 Stripe Backup Putters: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W, TM-180 Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017
TENBUCK
A wedge that doesn't get too much press is the TM MG2 wedge. Just a fantastic wedge all around. I'm looking for a 58* and will probably look at the SM8. You need to see where contact is made on the face and what your loft at impact is...this would need a launch monitor that can read clubhead data cnosil 1 Quote Driver: PXG 0811 X+ Proto w/UST Helium 5F4 Wood: TaylorMade M5 5W w/Accra TZ5 +1/2”, TaylorMade Sim 3W w/Aldila rogue white Hybrid: PXG Gen2 22* w/AD hybrid Irons: PXG Gen3 0311T w/Nippon modus 120 Wedges: TaylorMade MG2 50*, Tiger grind 56/60 Putter: Scotty Caemeron Super Rat1 Ball: Titleist Prov1
fixyurdivot
6 months ago I would have suggested anything but the PING Glide 2.0... but I finally cracked the code and now it's become a reliable friend. So many good ones to choose from really. I think part of my issue was technique as I am switching from a bump and run player to a traditional wedge approach shot. Mine is a 56/12 which is my go to club from around 50 yards and closer. Try some out before you buy. tony@CIC 1 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Evnroll ER5v Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Currently Under Product Test)
