In all honesty, It kind of started out with "what shaft would you like to play" so I think he really just wanted to get a feel for my level of knowledge about what I play and what I'm looking for. I told him that I didn't form any pre-conceived ideas because I wanted to be guided by the professional rather than convince myself that a certain shaft would be better.

I ended up giving him my swing speed, ball speed, back spin, launch angle, and dispersion variance from center. I also explained my swing characteristics. We discussed the specs of my current shaft and what works for me and how the Motore X might improve certain numbers.

He also was good about taking time to answer my questions.. and I had a few.

I will say that if I were to have pre-conceived what shaft would suit me better, I would have been spot on.

😉

Alta Distanza - its a senior flex - I really don't think it's right for me - I hit it well when I was fit for it but I quite honestly have not gotten out of it what I was looking for other than the fact that I launch it properly.

Was your fitting prior to weight loss, fitness improvements and Superspeed?  If so, no wonder the shaft isn't working for you. Your swing is probably 10 years younger than it was a couple of years ago.

Just out of curiosity, do you know where the call was from? I had two missed calls from Georgia today while I was my daughter at the dentist. I think that Fuji would leave a voicemail, but I know those guys are busy!

Just so everyone knows, the club techs are all at an event this week at Myrtle Beach and won't be able to start putting things together until next week. Probably looking mid to end of next week before they're sent out.

Actually it was after all of the above - even the fitter acknowledged that it seemed like an odd fit but that he had made it for another, similar player - my swing consistency along with a need for a bit more spin (in his opinion) on driver plus higher launch were his rationale - I was able to get a few additional yards with it (around 5 all carry) on the Trackman that day.  Having written that the reality is that I was longer and straighter with my G400 LST and its shaft than I have been with this shaft/head combo.  I've been to several driver fittings and in the end found that shaft weights in the 60's were best for my swing -  I'm just not getting the run out with the current set up nor am I getting dispersion consistency - my misses are equally distributed left and right - I haven't gone for an LM session since last Spring but don't really need to - it's easy enough to tell that my spin rate is too high and angle of decent too steep.

I spoke with Austin from Fujikura, and had my over the phone fitting. We discussed details about my current driver and shaft setup and a bit about my current game (swingspeed, typically misses, etc.). Based on the discussion, I was fit into the F3 5S. The one thing I had pondered was 5S or 6S, but we decided to go 5S since my current shaft is in the 50 gram class and working pretty well for me. You can see in the attached picture a chart of the specs of all of the Motore X F3 shafts. Also below is a chart showing the Motore X bend profiles. I don't know the detailed bend profile for my TM made for Ventus shaft because its different than the Ventus Velocore shaft and the TM site doesn't have the full specs of the shaft, but it does feel soft (I know "feel" is not a good measurement).

And here is where the Motore X F3 falls compared to other Fujikura shafts. Looks like the Motore X F3 is similar in launch and spin characteristics (but very different shaft profile) to the real Ventus Red shaft. It's hard to say where exactly the TM made for Ventus Red shaft falls on this chart. It says its mid-high launch and mid spin, but it feels like a pretty soft shaft. Plus I hear that TM tip trims all driver shafts by 1 inch, so that throws things off even more.

Also had my over the phone session with Austin. Lots of fun - he asked me what I knew about shafts and cut me off after a bit saying, “Okay you know a lot.” I told him, “I’m just the average MGS forum guy. :). I may wear a collar but I’m a bit of an equipment nerd.”

After a bit more discussion about my current set up and numbers we went with an F3 50 R, Tour Velvet 1 extra wrap , regular tip 45” length - little extra weight, little extra length - I told him my dispersion and angle of descent are both too high.

I spoke with Austin today as well. Very nice guy. Made me feel jealous about the west coast weather when it’s going feel like 6 here tomorrow morning! I told him my last 3 shafts were the Aldila Rogue Silver 70X, Evenflow Black 75X and the Atmos Black 7X all tipped 1” and he immediately went to the F1 7X. He said that we should tip this one as well.
I did make sure to ask him about the potential of what the F3 might do and besides a slight spin and launch increase, he said that I would see more right to left movement and that quickly shut down the rest of that discussion! :)
Because my Cortex swing weights pretty high, I’m curious how a non counter balanced shaft is going to make the head feel. Final specs on the shaft coming are as follows:
Motore X F1 7X
Tipped 1”
Playing length at 45.25”
MCC standard grip with 3 wraps total
Now we play the waiting game!

I actually had my discussion right before you!  We hung up and Austin mentioned he was going to call you back.

During my fitting we immediately went to the F1 6X especially after the discussion with PXG recently fitting me into the Aldila NV Green 65 X.  The two have almost identical make ups.  This will be a really fun test!

Here's the full specs:

Playing Length 45" (not tipped)

I've been contemplating posting my swing video as well..

For anyone following, is that something you would want to see? Or is a video of me and my janky self-taught attempt to swing a driver, at all relevant to the testing process?

Thoughts?

the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

I've been contemplating posting my swing video as well..

For anyone following, is that something you would want to see? Or is a video of me and my janky self-taught attempt to swing a driver, at all relevant to the testing process?

Thoughts?

the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

Yup! Love to see other members swings. Especially for a review like this!

Are they going to cut it like TM does then, and tip it an inch? Or butt trim it down to your preferred length?
