Pjholden
I am in. I usually play 3 different courses throughout the year but the one I have chosen for the challenge is Johnson Park Golf Course; I am hopeful for an early spring here in SE Wisconsin so I can get started right away. The par 3's on the card (holes 6, 13 & 18) are going to be the biggest challenge. downlowkey 1 Quote M2 9.5* XR 699 4-AW, KBS Tour 130 SM8 54* and 58*, KBS Tour 130 BB38, 35" & Kushin Z-Star XV C130 DryJoys, Flex, ProSL
Kenny B
Ticked off Hole #3 today with my Monday geezer walking group... the #1 hcp hole. Nice high (for me) draw to middle of fairway, then a nice high (for anyone) draw to the middle of very firm green and a release to the back pin. Made the 10 footer. What was interesting was I don't normally hit a draw; straight or slight fade maybe, but wind from the right = draw. I've now birdied 9/18 holes and it's early March!!! sirchunksalot, THEZIPR23 and vrnyn 3 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

GolfSpy_SHARK
On 2/20/2020 at 2:40 PM, B.Boston said: What say you @Lacassem!? I'm in for the birdie challenge. Like @NoSpoon above I'll be playing Shining Rock as my home course here. My home course: Shining Rock Golf Club, Northbridge, Massachusetts Hole 1 | Par 4 | 411: Downhill slight dogleg left. The approach shot here is challenging due to the slope of the back half of the green. If the flag is back DO NOT try to fly it to the pin. Hole 2 | Par 4 | 384: Everything feeds to the right on this hole which can make it difficult. a long but skinny kidney bean shaped green guarded by deep bunkers and steep slopes required accuracy, as does the quick and sloped green. Hole 3 | Par 5 | 504: Dog leg right par 5 which I can get on in two with a good tee shot. A bad tee shot forces you to layup to a waste are which then still required a 150 yard shot. Hole 4 | Par 4 | 282: Short with a dog-leg right. Can get the ball on the green here off the tee, but large numbers and lost balls are had if you leak it right or don't make the forced carry. Hole 5 | Par 3 | 219: Long par three on paper, but issues with the tee box have had it play consistently around 110-120 yards last year. Much more difficult if the tee is back. Hole 6 | Par 4 | 300: Short part 4 that turns to the right and goes uphill to a severely sloped two tier green which essentially splits the whole into two greens. Stay below the hole. Hole 7 | Par 4 | 290: Pretty short, uphill par 4. Another treacherous green complex. Don't be above the hole. Hole 8 | Par 3 | 148: Fairly simple uphill par 3. Two tier green but not overly difficult. Hole 9 | Par 5 | 485: A nice easy slightly turning right par 5 to end the front. I have an albatross, and eagle, and multiple birdies here, so I think it suits my eye. Hole 10 | Par 4 | 360: Stay middle or right on the fairway, and this straight par 4 is your friend. There is OB right, and woods left... but they shouldn't be in play. Hole 11 | Par 4 | 372: A gettable hole has a wide and generous fairway and a green that feels like one of the flatter ones on the course. Hole 12 | Par 3 | 188: A large green for sure, but now much room to miss left, right, or long. Another sloping green from back to front provides for some interesting long putts. Hole 13 | Par 5 | 478: A skinny par 5 that twists it way uphill to a nice green. Club selection is key as approach shots from an uneven lie can be challenging. Hole 14 | Par 4 | 345: A split fairway but otherwise fairly simple hole. Better to be at pin high or short than long. Hole 15 | Par 3 | 180: Wide open par 3 but a very tricky green with subtle bumps and breaks. Hole 16 | Par 5 | 563: An absolute BEAST of a par 5. My best tee shots require a wood on the second to reach the green. The fairway narrows as you get to the green and steep drop offs long and right and woods left require accuracy on the approach. Not going to lie, birdie here is exceptional, an eagle would be other worldly. Hole 17 | Par 4 | 312: This plays short as it is straight and downhill. I have driven the green and most approach shots are with wedge in hand. I've got a better change at an eagle here than on 16. Hole 18 | Par 4 | 375: Elevated tee and wide fairway that narrows with water on the right if you go too long. The angle makes the approach more difficult than it should be, but the green is pretty simple. Easiest holes for me: 3, 9, 11, 17 Hardest holes for me: 1, 6, 7, 16 B gonna need you to start an excel sheet for this for us...I could but you know you would probably change it after anyway! golfinnut
This is a good one! I like the "Birdie Every Hole" Challenge the best. I think Par would be achieved much too quick to be a fun test. My "home" course if you will (well the one I play the most often) is Shenandoah Valley CC. This course has 3 nines ... Blue, White, & Red nine. For this exercise, we will assume I am playing the Blue/White 18 holes combination. This course is not very long, depending on which combination of nines you play, it can range from 6100 to 6400 yards or so from the back set of tees. It's main defense are the fairly large greens, long rough & trees off the fairways. Blue/White is a par 7, 6371 yards .... only 3 par 3's & 3 par 5's. Blue nine starts off & ends with par 5's ... so these are really good chances for a birdie right off the bat ... just 546 & 487 yards from the back tees, respectively, with no real trouble unless you're off the fairway. I have eagled both of those in the past. #2 is a long par 3, downhill .... this would be a hard birdie most of the time because you have to hit it close or get lucky with a long putt. It's a huge green. But I hit it to a foot last week for a birdie ... so knock that one off the list. LOL #3 thru #5 are going to be tough birdies because, like a lot of the holes here, you have to hit it close on your approaches to really have a chance at birdie. These are some really tough greens to not 3-putt because of their immense size. White 9 is straight forward ... just over 3,000 yards from the back. #9 par 5 should be an easy birdie if you're hitting the ball well. But it's usually my last hole & I'm always tired by then so it becomes difficult to birdie sometimes. #3 is a 190 yard long, uphill shot so it plays longer than the card says most days. It needs to be an accurate shot to have any chance. #4 & #5 main defense are small, severely sloped greens, from left to right ... if you're not on the right side, you may have a hard time with Par, let alone Birdie. #6 & #7 are definite birdie holes as long as you come off the tee box with no issues. #8 par 3 of 188 yards is going to be tough. Very small green from front to back, so it takes precision to get it close. There are some definite birdie holes on this course I can already cross off the list from my round last week. But there are some that may take me awhile to birdie. It's going to be a fun challenge nonetheless. downlowkey 1 Quote WITB: Do I like Titleist or what?
