DMDoran
Finally birdie #10. Pushed my tee shot right so I had to take an 8 iron up over the trees on to the green. Drained a 20+ putt for the birdie. Was in a 2 man best ball event where it was a net eagle for the hole, but was almost happier thinking about being able to X this one off the list. Two more to go to cover the course. Kenny B
Ticked off the par 3 hole #8 playing 200y into a breeze today. Made a 30 foot uphill L to R putt. This is such a hard hole for me to birdie because it usually plays into the wind, and I don't hit that green very often. Lakeeriegolfer
I wish this was something I could partake in. But I honestly don't play the same course more than 3-5 times a year. Maybe in the future if I ever end up getting a membership somewhere. I suppose the 9 hole executive course could be doable. Some tricky wedges into really firm greens are hard to get it close. MaxEntropy
Of the 6 holes I have left to par, I'm sort of shocked/disappointed I haven't already checked 5 of them off. They are all relatively easy holes - short par 4's or nearly reachable par 5's. The 6th? I don't think I've ever had better than a bogey. It's the second longest par 4 on the course and is usually into the wind. Blueberry_Squishie
I'm a 3rd of the way to making birdie on all of the holes. Made two new ones on Tuesday. Got close to the green on the Par 5 11th, but had a tricky 3rd but managed to get it to about 3m. Rolled in the putt. Backed it up a hole later by putting a wedge to within 3 feet. Must have gone awfully close to holing out for eagle by the pitch mark and the ball being on opposite sides of the hole. Bucky CC
I was the perfect model of consistency yesterday. Played 27 holes and my 9 hole splits were 48-39-37. Not sure what happened that first nine but it was UGLY! The good news is I scratched another hole off the birdie list and only have two left. Hole 3 is a 410 yard par 4 that usually plays longer than that. The green slopes pretty severly back to front so it's a must to stay below the hole. My usual tee shot puts me in or near the fairway bunker to avoid the hazard running up the entire right side. It looks like woods but there is a stream in there that makes anything hit too far right unplayable. Hole 7 is another 400+ yard par 4 that gives me fits. You can't see it from the Google Earth image but the tee box is elevated about 50 feet above the fairway. Anything heading right will catch a slope and run into the creek or pond. Go too far left and you are in another hazard. The green is also elevated with water to the right and behind the green so it takes a precise shot to stay on target. GolfSpy_SHARK
So changing up my home course on this. Pretty much got out of the league I was playing in on Thursdays because afternoon rounds with work right now and CORONA just wont happen weekly. Morning rounds down at a local club that I am looking at possibly getting a membership to next year is what I have been playing and will continue to keep playing at least 1 time per week. 9 hole course with 2 different tee boxes for 18 holes (blue/gold for each nine) So for the purposes of my goal I will be using the blue as the front and gold as the back. Overall not a long course and not a heck of a lot of lost ball opportunities but ball placement is key here. Rough is deep and well placed bunkers. Greens are also postage stamps and are ALWAYS playing very fast, typically rolling @ 12's and there are not many straight putts (3/12 is absolutely BRUTAL putting). Cant wait to keep knocking out some birds on this! DMDoran
Bittersweet one today...one of the two holes I haven’t birdied so far is a 549 yard par 5 (#14). Tees were back today too. Nice drive. 3 hybrid to preferred approach shot territory. 9 iron to front edge of green. Drained a long uphill putt. Tee to hole in four strokes and a tempered celebration. Why? I could not find my ball after my first tee shot so I returned to the tee to hit another. Then Played the hole in four shots, but carded a bogey. Happy to “save” the bogey, but would have loved the birdie. GolfSpy MPR

As stated in my original post about my home course (Sunnybrook Country Club in Grand Rapids, MI), here is my statement on Hole 4 (see above). If you asked me straight up which hole I would never birdie on this course, it would be Hole 4. The closest birdie putt I have had on this hole is probably 40+ feet....until last night during league! I had never birdied this hole before and it happened in the strangest way possible: Tee shot right off the toe of my driver and hit a tree about 100yds from the tee box and fell straight down 2nd shot with a 3 wood was struck very well...but, to the right of the corner I was aiming at. Fortunately, hit a tree and dropped straight down, otherwise I would have been in the pond protecting the next hole's green From here, I have 220-230 yards in and trees everywhere. I have about a 15ft wide by 15ft tall gap that I can get back towards the fairway in and the ball is sitting about a foot above my feet. I take a choked up 3 wood...close my eyes...and pray. End up hitting the ultimate stinger that never rises more than 3 ft off the ground...rolls up the green and sits 8ft short of the back pin location Drill the putt with right to left slope and card my first ever birdie on Hole 4. Conventional or orthodox? Nope. Does that matter? Nope! Very happy to "X" this one off the list! With this one out of the way, there should be no reason not to card them all this season! (Worst part was, with my handicap and a stroke on this hole, it would have been a gross birdie/net eagle, and I did not go in on skins this week) Edited June 26, 2020 by Kevin Kikkert Typo GolfSpy MPR and gavinski91 1 1 Quote Kevin Kikkert My Bag: Driver: XR 9° (Project X 6.0, S shaft) 3 wood: Burner 15° (Reax superfast 50 gram, Flex R shaft) 5 wood: Big Bertha Titanium 18° (RCH 75W, Firm shaft) Irons (3,5-P): 755's Wedges: SM6 in 50°, 54°, and 58° Putter: Est 79 (TM-180) 34"

Kenny B
It took me 6 months but on Sunday I birdie our #17 par 3 hole that is slightly uphill and plays anywhere from 110-160 yards. It's supposedly our #18 handicap hole, but every time I get on the tee, I hit a bad shot. There is a large tree left and short of the green that overhangs the left part of the green. Shot call for either a high shot over the tree or a baby draw, neither are my forte. Decent shot this time playing 136y just past the hole and made the 15 footer. Glad to check this one off my list. Now I only have 3 holes left: #7 par 4, #9 par 5, and #10 par 4. MaxEntropy
Updated the spreadsheet. I have 4 holes left the par. #4 - According to Arccos, I am averaging 5.4 on this hole #10 - Sort of shocked I haven't shot par yet. It's short, but for some reason I struggle. I would suggest I suck when we play this hole because it is the first hole when we play it so I don't know what my tendencies are going to be yet. Averaging 5.8 strokes, which is stupid for how easy the hole looks. I am also averaging 2.4 putts on this hole. Another sign I need to warm up more? #13 - Fairly tough hole, had best chance at par this week, but a weak chip left me too long of a par putt. Averaging 5.2. #16 - Another easy looking hole, but too many wild tee shots to the right leave me in trouble, averaging 5.4 on this hole. When I look at my averages, I find it interesting that I am scoring better on the harder holes. #4 is 2nd HC hole, #13 is 3rd HC hole, and #10 is the 17th HC hole.
