I checked off a couple more pars last week, so all that are left are #4 and #16. 4 is a tough par for me, so we'll we see if I get it done this season. I'm sort of embarrassed to say I have yet to par 16 - it's not that hard, but stupid things keep happening.

This is an idea I first heard about from the guys at No Laying Up and just today Andrew Jensen posted a YouTube video on it. I'm proposing a MyGolfSpy Birdie Every Hole on Your Home Course Challenge f

Too much to type every hole on my phone but we do this every year at my club and it is called “The Ringer”. I won it last year with a score of -23 for the year on a par 71 course. I birdied every hole

Definitely! As commissioner of this here enterprise, I'm a total pushover 🙂 In fact, I'm willing to add this: if you're playing in a scramble and your group happens to birdie a hole using all you

The one hole I thought might go un-circled is (was) #13. A Par Three volcano hole. Straight up hill. An 7 iron distance, that needs a PW trajectory, so you’re trying to loft a 5 iron up there and hold it... Severely sloped back to front with a giant mound in the middle dividing the green. Tough green to hit. Tough to putt unless you are right under the hole.

Crazy game...

Two more to go to complete the second lap. Almost aced #15 with an 8 iron from 168 yards. Ties the closest I’ve ever had to an ace. Someday.

And down goes another one!  Finally birdied the 10th hole, which coincidentally is the hole I live on at my course.  Shot my best round in 15 years (+2, 73), including 3 birdies (4, 10, 18).  Getting a birdie on 18 is awesome, as it is the hardest hole on the course.  Still have two to go, both par 3s on the front nine.  I WILL complete this challenge!!!

Another one ticked off. Par 4 16th after a slightly skinny 8 iron 2nd luckily hit the upslope at the front of the green leaving me about 15 feet from the hole. Putt didn't look like missing.

2 to go, 1st, tough par 4 with a very elevated and sloping green, and the 15th, a 450 yard par 4.

Down to 1 more to go for the second loop through this season. Nice smooth 8 iron to just below the hole on a 168 yard par three then rolled in. Last one is a challenging par 3 that plays tough. Hopefully I can do it before the snow flies.

Was so close to checking No. 11 off the list on Sunday. It's not listed anywhere near the hardest handicapped hole on the course, but it plays 405 yards with a dogleg right, and over the years the trees have grown up such that you really can't cut the corner. I don't know when the holes were last handicapped, but I'm guessing when the course was built in the 1960s that long hitters simply flew the ball over the dogleg.

image.png.0d45fb896c3409d09243893af510ca43.png

I got away with a very high, faded 2 hybrid that sat down about 150 from the green but with tree trouble above. I pulled the SpeedZone 7 iron and hit a great low runner that hit a ways in front of the green and rolled to about six feet just past the pin. The greensmower was out and stopped me to say it almost went in when it rolled by! Unfortunately, I hit a really good birdie putt but it turned just right at the end and left me with a three-inch tap in par.

I haven't been that close on this hole all season, and it hurt to not convert that opportunity.

Did not think I had a chance of every completing this because I am not much of a birdie person. However cranked out 2 birdies in one 9 last week. I am up to 7 holes completed so big goal of getting to 9 by the end of the season!

Holy crap, that’s the old Springfield Country Club. I grew up on that course and played high school golf, and worked there. I had heard there were some changes after the redesign. Fun course. Harder that the yardage gives it credit for.

I wanted to try this but went with Par every hole since Birdies are a stretch for me... I finally did it this week with a Par on the 8th hole which is the hardest hole on the course!

  • 2 weeks later...

Not looking like I'm going to hit all 18 birdies. Holes 4, 6, 7, 11 and 16 are left, and I might only get one or two more rounds in this year. Realistically, I should have birdied No. 4 and No. 6, but I'm not surprised about not knocking 7, 11 or 16 off the list. Those holes all require two extremely perfect shots to have a chance for birdie.

No. 6 is a stupid par 3 (200-ish yards), and while I've been on the green so many times this season, I have hardly sniffed the hole. It's in my head at this point.

I did go back through and noted that I parred every hole at least once this season. I'd have to look back to 2019 rounds, but that may not have been the case a year ago. Progess!

Don't give up!!!  I was feeling the same way myself, but I checked another off my list today with a birdie on #8 at Whispering Creek.  That leaves #10, 15, 16, & 18 for me.  #10 is hard.  I've had legit shots at #16 and 18 but for some reason I always get snake bit at #15.  Even today, I shot my career low round of 74 (humble brag...) but had a bogey on #15.  Don't know what it is with that hole...

The leaves may be falling, but the snow isn't flying yet.  Still time.  Never know when you might collect  a couple during the same round.

I finally found something I like about aerated greens... with the way the sand settles you sometimes see a bit of break that you might not otherwise see.  I had that today, #16, 14 feet away.  I've always known its a big right to left break - I mean a good 3 feet out.  But I've always missed it.  Well today I saw something and played just a touch farther out, and dropped it right in.  Check off another one.

10, 15 and 18 to go.  If a falling leaf stops the ball from going in, you'll hear the scream all the way from Iowa...

Finally birdied the first after a solid drive and 9 iron to about 12 feet. Downhill, left to right putt that would have been impossible if the greens were normal speed just caught the edge of the hole and dropped.

Only the 450 yard 15th to go.

After complaining about repeatedly getting snake bitten at #15 I checked that box today. #10 and #18 to go...

I was not playing my best, and it was cold (40s) and windy (20s); but I got my act together for those three holes. Ball dropped on a nine footer.

playing this game against yourself is a great motivator, ABD keeps you in it even when you don’t have your best.
