Alright. First few swings with the 58°... the low toe spinner is there. The normal trajectory on a full swing is very similar to the BSTone 56° and the distance is the same. So I “equalized” distance by switching to the 58°.

Planning on taking the new driver and these wedges to the “terrain park” on Sunday, and we are having mandatory golf Monday at work. They’ll get a workout before a real test happens.

You should work at a software company.  It's shorts and flip-flops when I'm in the office.  I actually have to keep a change of clothes in the car in case I get pulled into a meeting at the last minute.

That would involve math. A subject that I am not very good at.

Doesn't necessarily involve math.   I don't use math very much and if I do,  there are tools that help me with that math.

No one at Red Hat wants me doing math on my own.  Thank goodness for spreadsheets.

Finally got these things out on the range and short game area. I ran out of time for any “tweeners”. Didn’t get to hit any longer pitch shots. It was windy as heck anyways...

But I did get some chipping in. As far as spin goes, they spin a lot more than the BSTones did even fresh. Feel though... not the best on the short touch shots, but I’ll either get used to it or just have to buy some Vokeys... we’ll see.

Put myself in a variety of lies, the fluffy lie you asked about@HardcoreLooper, a little better I’d say than the other wedges but they felt terrible, super dead but the ball made it to the intended target.

Side note, I found a -V1x just chilling on the range. I haven’t bought any yet, so I put it up against the AVX... I hit a few 75ish yarders before the wind picked up with the 52°, and they do fly higher, and even on the short iron so far they are about 2 yards longer.

The -V1x feels like a Top Flight XL 2000, just a boulder.

On course comparison tomorrow between the AVX and -V1x, and an audition for the wedges.

Thanks Shanks.  Those of us who have lost both the hands and the nerve that we had as teenagers appreciate a little heft at the top of the club when pitching it off a precarious perch.

Shankster this has been a very interesting read. I have the s18 wedges from mizuno and I’m not sure if you would classify those as cb wedges but they are phenomenal. If the glides don’t work out for you, you should give these a look.

Was just about to make a new post.

These things have way too much bounce for me. It’s weird, I’m getting under the ball way more than I’d like out on the course, floaty high junk shots. I’m beginning to think this is the reason I’ve started to have issues with the Blueprints. Tons of bounce on all of the clubs.

Really wish I had the time to go do a whole bag fitting.

Driver that goes shorter than a 3 wood, a 2 hybrid that goes like the wind. Then wedges that ruin a round. There has to be a balance somewhere that I currently don’t have.

I could probably score the same with my 3W, 3i, 5i, 7i, PW, and putter.

A tad frustrated...

Yes Sir, will do. You will have fun with that technique. It takes a bit of practice to get used to it, but man if it isn’t deadly accurate once you get it.

Shankster, how do you play the "low to spinner" and what club do you use?  I made a lot of progress last year using the Sieckmann method.  Hoping I can add the low spinner without impacting those mechanics too much.

I do it with 9, PW, 52, 56, 58...

Purposely hit the ball on the low toe on the grooves. It is a dead area on the face, so you have to get the club-head speed up, more club-head speed when hit on the dead spot will spin more because of the speed.

You’ll have to play around with distances, and I don’t recommend hitting towards anything of value at first, like people, dogs, cars, houses, crystal, etc.

It will come out low and feel terrible. But have some sizzle.

I should have prefaced my earlier post with “it depends” on when I use it.

Normally 100 and in.

It’s better for shorter shots when you need to add spin, say 40 in or so.

You can do it with a fuller swing but I use it mostly on shorter shots.

And the body works like a Steve Stricker pitch shot. Not much wrist hinge.

I am pondering trying CB wedges too, potentially the Cleveland CBX 2. I play GI irons, so I could use the forgiveness on full shots. I hit my Vokey wedges well on pitch shots, but then find some way to hit super thin full shots.

Grabbed a 50/54/58 from a recent fitting I had this year. Had never been super in depth with wedges I grabbed what looked good (stupid me @ 23) Love them so far. From address looks like your typical blade wedge, little bigger but nothing that would play tricks on you. Swings great and I like that the grinds are not to "scientific", very simple like my golf game. Benefit of the CB is that it "aids" in reducing taking chunks. I have a steep swing so tend to dig...My blades cut that grass like butter.
