Does anyone know anything about a vintage Ray Cook putter stamped Minus 3.  Appears to be an early version of their Classic Plus II, 8802 style putter.

Thanks.

If you can post a pic. Ray Cook made some good stuff including wedges. At one time there was a much sought after Ray Cook putter called a Blue Goose

I tried posting a pic.  It is on ebay, could not get it to the forum (not the most tech savvy guy in the world).  Love the Ray Cooks, got about 6 of them.  The Classic Plus II (8802 style) is my every day, go to putter.  Will try the pic again.

I had a Blue Goose mid mallet for several years. Bought it at PGA Golf Show in Orlando. Gave it to a friend starting a Play it Again Sports store a few years back. Kinda wish I still had it.

I can remember about 12 years ago the Ray Cook Blue Goose was a hot item.

I remember the Blued Steel they were nice but never saw one LH.
I’m sure the blue painted is not nearly as good looking or desirable.

More than likely back in the day they used a different steel and heat treating process. In modern Business 101 that translates to more expensive steel and labor process

Yup, I think they were a low/medium carbon steel and either hand torched or a very well controlled furnace. I would lean to hand torch, not that hard to do.
Never saw anything in LH or I would have had my paws on it.

I hand torched a old Spalding TP Mills #9 a few years back and it turned out great. So great that a guy wanted it so I sold it to him.

I did this out of winter boredom about 12 years ago. I do take it out occasionally.IMG_1522.JPGIMG_1520.JPGIMG_1521.JPG

You did a fantastic job on it. I inadvertently became a Mills collector after over the years finding several on the pile. I did do a trade deal back in December for a Mizuno Mills #1 which I have always wanted. I got it and can not putt with it worth 2 hoots but like to look at it. Out of all the Spalding Mills I own my #3 is my favorite. But it is still hard for me to kick the rusty Scotty out of the bag. LOL out of all the Mills I own I do not have one turned backwards like yours!!! Believe it or not I can putt halfway decent left handed with one of my Bullseyes or an old Cash In I have

I did another a Mizuno and it came out pretty good. Foolishly another guy liked it and I let him have it. It’s somewhere in Canada.
One of these days I’ll look for another project but I don’t have the winter doldrums in FL.
