Tsecor
I was looking at the PX LZ line and i have a real stupid question. Laugh if you must......but PX has 4 different levels. all the specs are the same, except the weight. How can all the specs be the same with lighter shafts? I guess im asking where does the weight differences come from? How can the 5.0 flex be the same as the 6.5? If you have played these shafts, what are your thoughts? Are they as smooth as advertised and have great feel or do the seem "boardy" to you? Project X LZ Steel PRODUCTS FLEX WEIGHT (G) LENGTH (IN.) TIP DIAMETER (IN.) BUTT DIAMETER (IN.) bens197
Are you asking how a lighter weight shaft can be the same flex as a sister shaft from the same manufacturer? The flex is determined by where mass is concentrated through the shaft. Gross weight does not determine a shafts flex. You will find that those specs are fairly common across the board for many iron shafts. The weight (in the right place) is what the use to make a shaft stiffer. For example the specs of the KBS C-Taper light shafts are listed below and follow the same pattern. Toro3150
I picked up a set of Mizuno JPX 900 Hot Metal with Project X LZ 6.0 shafts. At the time, I was playing another set of JPX 900 Hot Metal with NS Pro 950 in stiff. Between those two, the Project X LZ 6.0 definitely felt more "boardy" as compared to the Ns Pro 950 stiff. The ball flight was lower with the Project X as well. I probably would need a 5.5 in the Project X LZ (to make them feel comparable to the NS Pro 950 stiff). I ended up taking out the shafts and selling them on ebay, and gave the heads to my dad to tinker with.
Tsecor
where do they take out the weight from? Or where do the add the weight to make the shaft stiffer or more flexible? are the shaft walls thicker or thinner? Quote Golf is cool

cnosil
where do they take out the weight from? Or where do the add the weight to make the shaft stiffer or more flexible? are the shaft walls thicker or thinner? Profile on steel shaft is base dm on thickness of the shaft walls. While we think this is a lot of weight difference, a paperclip is 1 gram so a 20 gram weight different is only 20 paperclips. Not a lot of metal that needs to move around. also, do lighter shafts feel more "harsh" on mishits? Haven’t studied this bit I would say no. I think the grip has a bigger role in what you feel. The shaft carries the vibrations, but the grip filters what you feel. tony@CIC, PMookie and Tsecor 3 Quote Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: TM-180 Testing: Backups: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017

Golfmanufaktur
The easiest way to make a steel shaft play firmer, is to add weight. The general characteristics stay the same, but you beef up the walls, which gives you a higher frequency, which is reflected in the Rifle stiffness designation (5.0, 5.5, etc.) PX LZ is an interesting animal with it’s relatively soft midsection and firm tip and butt design. It’s a nice mid launch/mid spin design for most players and easier to handle than the standard PX for most players. When testing PX LZ steel shafts for the first time a couple of years ago, I was pleasantly surprised. I don’t get along with Standard PX at all, since my release isn’t super late. I could game PX LZ all day long, but prefer the feel of Modus 105 over PX LZ. But that’s 100% personal preference. And yes...lighter golf shafts can feel a bit harsher on misshits, due to the thinner walls providing less dampening properties. Funny enough, it’s more noticeable in light graphite shafts for irons compared to their heavier relatives. Cheers, Michael
PMookie
PX LZ are not boardy at all, for me. A whole different animal than the PX shaft. I played 6.5 in LZ, but couldn’t activate the 6.0 in PX!!! Just because they’re Project X brand, don’t assume boardiness. Josh Ross
I play the LZ 6.0 in my irons and soon to be delivered wedges. I was fit to them and have been more than pleased. They feel amazing, my dispersion is unreal, and I love the ball flight I get out of them. I also have the Handcrafted LZ for my fairway wood and driver that I plan on trying out tomorrow if the weather allows it. Blueberry_Squishie
Shaft flex is a very blunt instrument in determining fitting to a player. It's too simple of a measure where the stiffness of shafts vary along the entire profile between models. EI curves are a better indication, but not the sort of thing you need worry about if you're being fit professionally; that's their job. AceBino
I've had the LZ 6.0 in my old set of Ping iE1s, and now in my Mizuno JPX-900 forged irons. Fantastic feel, not boardy to me ( I have a 98-100 mph driver swing speed, carry a 7i 160-165), and I can get a good amount of spin on the them.
