MGS's Harry Nodwell going pro

Some time back, Harry Nodwell, MGS's director of product testing, announced he was going to give a go at professional golf. His first professional event is this weekend:

I don't have further details; if anyone knows what event it is and where we can keep up to date on his progress, it would be great to have it posted. I think as forum members, we'll definitely be rooting for one of our guys to succeed!

TGAA is a good test. The tour has lots of events and they are good at controlling sandbagging.

Everyone scores around their hdcp in the results I’ve seen.

Looks like Harry shot the lowest score of anyone out there but got handicapped to death.

I kinda thought, by definition, pro tournaments don't use handicaps?

The word pro gives someone the ability to earn cash and prizes. Amateurs are limited in that they can win before being considered a pro. TGAA is kind of like the golf channel am tour and uses handicaps. The fields are much smaller and they have numerous tournaments including things like majors and a championship..at least when I looked into a couple years ago. Once anyone reaches 6 or 7 tournaments as a pro they can then start claiming it on taxes for benefits as a pro golfer.

The amateurs who participate in TGAA events can win up to $750 in gift card for an event where as the pro in the same event who wins gets full prize money.

Anyone can declare themselves a pro at any point. They give up all amateur rights at that point and have to go thru a process to get them back when they decide to not be a pro anymore.

Yeah, knew that as a couple buddies have done it. 80 seems like being a REAL pro is a ways off yet.

Yeah and probably why he’s going the TGAA route. Get used to playing in “tournaments” but not having to shoot low scores to possibly get in the money. From what I have seen in past years on TGAA the guys that shoot around their hdcp win and there’s no sandbagging as the tour uses scores from TGAA events as the hdcp

What happened to the last guy who ran product testing? Suddenly gone as they spoke about Harry going pro. Saying he’d be stepping away from mgs but then without explanation the other guy was gone lol. Anyone got the scoop?

I can attest that Saturday was very windy and Royal New Kent is one of the tougher tests in the area.  Spoke with Harry today and he was a bit disappointed with the setup.  As someone mentioned,  it is a pro/am event where the pros get cash and the amateurs get gift cards.    He was also paired with the player that shot 110 and as a result was distracted by having to watch and help find the players misdirected shots.   Harry said he had only one bad hole;  ball was lost in lip of a bunker, rehit back into a footprint in the same bunker.

RNK is tough with no wind. I can’t imagine playing it with any sort of wind
