What are your favorite PUBLIC courses you've played?

For myself - combining both quality of the course and value (important, I think, because of today's economy) - I like Poppy Ridge in Livermore, CA (http://www.poppyridgegolf.com/virtualtour/tour.html) and Half Moon Bay Ocean Course (http://www.halfmoonbaygolf.com/index.php?page=the_courses-the_ocean_course) in Half Moon Bay, CA.

With Poppy Ridge, one can get discounted green fees through www.golfnow.com. At Half Moon Bay, one just needs to sign up for a free email newsletter to get green fee discount info.

There are many beautiful courses in the Pa., NJ area most are private but there are some gems that are public and that's pretty much all I play. I will get a list together of all the courses I've played in a day or two. I'll have to look at some of my score cards I've saved!

I enjoy Magnolia Grove in Mobile, AL. Its part of the RTJ Golf Trail. The LPGA plays the Bell Micro Classic there every year, and its a great value for locals and snowbirds alike

Yoche De He course near the Cashe Creek Casino here in nor cal. What a great facility. Truly felt like a resort experience for $65 after 1 in the summer. Maybe the greatest non-costal 19th hole patio I have been to.

I still have to say Oyster Bay in North Myrtle Beach, just great views and a great, tough course with a great staff!

I used to work at Caledonia and I'm friends with the head pro at True Blue. True Blue had just opened when I started working at Caledonia. I really didn't like it much, but I heard it had changed a bit. Caledonia is just classic with so many great holes to play.

Bob Seganti? He wouldn't know me from Adam but his wife would.

TB was simplified to make it more playable. I didn't like it at first either. I never thought Caledonia was very difficult, at least from the middle tees. From the tips is another story. The people at both courses were always very nice to me but what I didn't like about Caledonia was the pace of play. It was deathly slow. CPO until 9 AM every single day was a bit much IMO.

Yep, still friends with Bob. Awesome guy to work for. I play from the back tees. Caledonia isn't really that tough from there either except for some of the par-3's can give you some problems and it can be tough to putt on. Still have a ball playing there though.

All back tees are hard for me, LOL. I'm almost 72. When they put in new greens a few years ago they rolled nicely but were very hard. That's OK but not when greens have been set up for old bermuda. Way too much tilt on some including 18. If the pin was low left you couldn't keep the ball on the green.

Beautiful course though despite tourists' gripes about #9. It was a "terrible hole" even though they couldn't par it, LOL.

The South Strand in MB is loaded with great courses. Of course Caldonia, True Blue and Heritage get all the headlines, but River Front and the Tradition Club are great tracks, Willbrook maybe my favorite southern layout Brenda at Litchfield (the Pro) is a great lady who loves her golfers, and the course is a lot tougher than people give it credit for.

I'm planning on taking a Michigan trip this summer, I'll have to keep my eye out for these two. Anything in particular draw you to them, or were they just near the place you stayed? Michigan seems to be really well represented in lots of Top 100 lists, and the green fees don't seem outrageous.
