COVID-19

Here in Australia I think we are about to go to more stringent lockdown. Our state Premier's (Governor equivalent) from both sides of the political divide are showing great leadership across the board, and have really been driving the necessary changes. Our federal government have perhaps been a little slow to respond, but hopefully things will progress more quickly on management of the crisis than the disease progresses. Consistency of messaging is so important in getting a good response.

I'm a public health worker, so will still be working throughout this crisis. I just hope people can listen to and follow the directions to shutdown normal life so we can stop transmission. A lockdown will have the added effect of reducing road trauma and the concurrent pressure that puts on the health system. Hopefully we don't get too many home handymen falling of ladders as they do all the odd jobs around the house.  A few weeks or months of hardship is much preferred to a complete implosion and collapse of health systems and perhaps society.

Stay safe, indoors as much as possible, keep your distance and wash your hands.

A separate point,  remember to interact with your family and friends in other ways. Phone calls, skype, whatever it is other than face to face contact. We all need to maintain our mental health during this time. Tolerance is not one of my strengths, but I know I'll get a good chance to work on it.

Anyone take in the 10 push-up challenge? I had a great couple motivators yesterday emoji4.png

IMG_5292.JPG

I succumbed, and failed miserably. Managed 1/2 a push up, with one less than motivating assistant.  I chose my lighter and taller daughter to spread the load, didn't help, I was still less than pathetic. Apologies for the crappy pic, my wife decided to video it, no way I was uploading the whole sad thing or doing a take two. I might need to self isolate for a couple of weeks to recover.

Naw... it's just a very bad situation right now. Everyone here has conducted themselves very well...IMO. It's extremely hard not to express an opinion... one way or the other, under these circumstances. I can keep politics out of it, but I am very stressed out right now. I can't even access the ohio unemployment site to apply for unemployment becaus e the site is crashed. I mean, who would have thought to bolster the site and prepare for this ,when you put thousands of people out of work in one day?

Ohio's unemployment web site is still crashed. Ya gotta wonder how they didn't foresee this when they put 3/4 of the state out of work in one day. Poor planning is an extreme understatement.

If this is considered political, just delete it. I'm just freaking out over not having any source of income at this point.

Getting a bit stir crazy, but all things considered feeling blessed with our situation. I'm working from home, but there hasn't been any indication of layoffs or furlough yet. Wife's a nurse, so job security's never been better for her. So far her floor isn't seeing COVID patients, but I guess most of her co-workers are thinking they're going to see a big spike in patients either next week or the one following.

I'm very fortunate to be in a position to work from anywhere with solid internet access.  I feel for everyone going through a similar situation as you.  I couldn't imagine the agony of the unknown with no clear direction as to what's going to happen or where we're headed.  None of us have ever experienced anything quite like this before.  Makes me even more appreciative of the sacrifices the greatest generation made look so easy!

Be well!

With the governor's shelter-in-place order going into effect yesterday early morning, I'm now working from home full-time. Not a bad gig as they let us take equipment home, so I'm setup with my laptop and a 27-inch monitor for the next few weeks. I will actually end up being more productive, most likely, because I tend to get the small things that get pushed off otherwise done while at home. Between Skype and Slack our team stays in pretty good communication anyway. Most of my systems are not end user facing, so I haven't been as busy as some of my colleagues who are dealing with all of our staff working from home.

I haven't ventured out since last Friday for groceries, and will need to make another grocery run this Friday. I have enough food for us for two weeks, but I homemake my dog's food and have been having issues finding ground turkey for her since this started. Hopefully the supply chain is starting to catch up.

My wife and I check our temperatures twice a day, and right now I'm thankful that I bought a squat rack and weights for Black Friday and also for a backyard big enough to chip in. I thankfully had enough stuff pre-bought for home projects and my vegetable garden, so I'm staying busy.

With in-restaurant dining being closed, a lot of restaurants in my area are doing some cool stuff with takeout orders. Just ordered $100 worth of raw meat from Fogo de Chao that I will pickup. Will freeze some and cook some tonight.
Just out of curiosity, how many pounds are you getting? If you are able to get your hands on some picanha, that's some delicious stuff! I'd be interested to see what I can get from them here in AZ.

the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

I bought a full size piece of picanha and below is a picture after I cooked it. They normally sell the picanha in 5 oz slices, but I asked them for a whole piece which is around 3 pounds. I also bought some bottom sirloin and filet as well.
