So all of our remaining indoor percussion and winter guard competitions were cancelled earlier this month. Our "sewing circle" parents who normally would have been repairing and fixing costumes right up until mid-April when we would have left for world championships in Dayton decided to do this instead:

I couldn't be prouder of them!
That's awesome! It's great to see community coming together to help those in the medical field.

Did my first workout in my new garage gym. Put in a roku tv and a soundbar and put on the 90s r&b jams. If we are stuck in “stay at home” mode for a while, my fitness level is going to increase greatly.

It blew up quickly. I was amazed at how fast everyone came together to help out.

On a serious note, as the president of the music association I'm really worried right now about how much this is impacting our fundraising. We need to raise at least $100k per year to keep all the programs afloat at "normal" levels, and as of right now we're down $20k due to lost fundraisers and cancelled concerts. It's only going to get worse. I know that every other school system with a music program like ours is in the same boat that we are, however once everything gets back to a relative normal, we're going to need to scramble to ensure the kids next year get the same experience (or close to it) as possible that they're used to. I'd hate to see things scaled back, instructors not be able to get paid, trips cancelled, etc.

In the grand scheme of things - people are worried about their jobs and paying bills. That is so much more important. My hope is that we are able to give the kids what they know as "normal" once they are able to get back to school and to the music programs. Kids crave structure and if we can't give them that due to how much fundraising we missed out on, I'll be crushed.

OK, rant done.

Golf courses are closed. Illinois allowed them open for a few brief days for walking only, along with other roles, and then quickly reversed course two days later.

With gyms and the courses closed, I've been able to down a lot more time learning more about social media, marketing, and focusing on brushing up on a lot of other things associated with the new business venture.

I've been a lot more busy than I would have imagined, even though being face to face with clients and prospects is almost impossible. But video chat has been a fun thing to learn and get used to. I'm hoping to come out of this with a better arsenal of communication and marketing tools to better grow my business and communicate with folks more easily.

Mother nature has also given us rain storms for the next couple of days.... Which at least makes me not feel as compelled to want to be on the course.

I read a news article the other day that virtually all of the condoms manufactured in the world come from factories in Malaysia - the same factories that make medical grade gloves. Their production is only at 50%. Will this be a shortage like TP 😁

We went out for dinner to Ches Peaksy. Youngest daughter did pre dinner cocktails and smoked salmon with cream cheese. I did cauliflower soup with a Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend. Main was fresh pasta with a Tomato and Pancetta sauce prepared by my youngest, paired with a Lange Nebbiolo. Desert was supposed to be a Lemon Meringue Pie prepared by my wife, but we wee all too full. Looking forward to dessert tomorrow.

Yeah, my grandpa had a farm. My wife and I were married on my parents friends farm (that I hope to someday buy), we used to go to farms when we lived out in Washington, and back in the Yoop. Love farms, and farming really. Always helped grandpa, and my dad with his smaller gardens.

Definitely will be frequenting the local farms here.

Good grief. Pee poor grammar in that one. Haha

I might just go down by the bay.

Maybe eat some hay.

Whuddya Say?

I just may...

Anybody else have opinions on AZ governor decision to keep golf courses on the "essential" business list?

He's getting boat loads of heat from the cities because of this decision.

As a golfer, I think this is a GREAT decision but can 100% understand the heat he's getting and wouldn't at all be surprised if that decision flip flops or is somehow overturned here shortly.

Played a round yesterday and was paired with a guy. Not 1 time were we ever inside 10 feet of each other. At the end we both gave an air high-5 and thanked each other for the time.

Before the round I stopped into the club house to chat with the desk guys. The golf courses are taking tremendous precautions by disinfecting the carts between parties, closing up the holes with over turned cups, pool noodle bumpers, etc, and only booking to allow everybody their own individual carts. Also, they're spacing out tee offs making sure there's no bottlenecking.

I think that these precautions are sufficient and perhaps the rest of the world doesn't quite understand the natural distancing already associated with golf.

To add to that, the Mrs. Is growing resentful that my hobby of choice isn't shut down.

This is really a tough one

the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..

I don’t have a problem with keeping golf courses open as long as the proper precautions are taking.
I personally think the only real reason to lock down cities is because a lot of people can’t/won’t follow the guidelines. You see pictures all the time of beaches, bars, and streets of places not completely closed down, full of people unable to see past themselves.

On a side note I would love to know what Japan knows. I read a tweet earlier that they had their first confirmed case in January. A population of 126 million people and only 52 deaths. Obviously they know something we don’t, right?

... I certainly have an opinion on Ducey 🤡  but not something to discuss here.  As someone trying to buy a home in Phoenix and trying to get out there as soon as possible, I certainly understand keeping golf courses open because as you said, the majority will follow social distancing rules. I am not sure there is another area with as many golf courses as Phoenix and depends on that income year round. Coupled with this is the prime season and in a few months the heat makes most stay home and not golf and all the snow birds are gone. But like everything in life, the few can ruin it for the many. We had courses open in Illinois for a few days and someone took a video of 4 guys carrying their bags while drinking, slapping fives on the green, pulling the flag and basically ignoring every Covid rule. The Governor shut courses back down after 2 days. Sadly in an area densely populated like Phoenix, with a high percentage of people over 60 you just can't take chances with a deadly virus that exponentially increases with exposure, especially since it kills the elderly, mostly with pre existing conditions. So honestly I can see both sides but would err on the cautious side, at least for the near future until this hopefully gets a little more under control.

Still, Rickp, I'm not sure how much fun golf would be with "social distancing."
The camaraderie was my favorite aspect of the game.
That needn't necessarily be the case with everybody, I suppose.

Actually your correct. To me “fun” part is the interaction BUT right now I’m taking what I can get. It’ll be back in time but I think some of the distancing will continue for a while.
A friend stopped on his way to Drug Store and show his new Yamaha cart. The distancing is now ingrained. SWMBO came out and talked to his girlfriend (both their partners passed from cancer) and nowhere near 6’.
Nobody goes in to the house anymore. Times sure have changed.
