I don’t know what my next set of irons will be or when.  But i can say they will have recoil shafts!

I'v never tried the recoil shafts. Always been fit/recommended (by the Mizuno swing analyzer) for KBS and Dynamic gold shafts. My impression was they are for high launch and slower swing speed? yes/no?

Even before my swing slowed to the pace of a sundial, I played them in a couple sets of irons. They are just a very smooth easy to swing shaft.  I think they have profiles for all types of swings, yes they may have made their initial impact in the lighter weights for the slower speeds.   But they have 95 and I believe 110 and 125 weights now that play to a much firmer feel for those that prefer that weight.

I have been a big proponent of KBS and still am, I love the TGI graphite, and had the C Taper lite and $ Taper lite shafts in irons very recently.

Both are high quality,  I would put the Recoil 760 and the KBS TGI 70's and 80's as very similar shafts.

I just miss playing them as I think it's been about 2 years maybe 3 since I've had a set in some irons.

Gotcha! Apparently for my swing, i'm on the edge of Stiff and X-Stiff. Got put into some KBS S-taper 130 X-stiff shafts but soft stepped. Guess my swing prefers those heavier ones.

For those who have gamed the G410's and now the G700 or G710's, what are your thoughts on a split bag?  Thinking a 4i and 5i G700 series paired with the G410's?  My shot tracking is showing a much bigger inconsistency with the 4i and 5i than I'd like.

Fix, I love my long irons in the G710, so I feel you on that set up. Could be interesting.

James Robinson Golf on Youtube just listed the G710's as his #1 most forgiving iron for mid to high hdcp players. His 2nd was the new Mizuno JPX 921 hot metal (my preference).

I would agree except this morning the G710’s took a break

I thought the wear would bother my “over detail brain” I get but it doesn’t.
I’m still happy w them.
The Mizzies are complaining about no play time

I’m extremely detail oriented and I thought the same thing but the wear had a good look. Similar to the nicely worn wedge

I have been golfing for 43 years. Played somewhere between 4-10 rounds a year. I have never been a really good golfer ranging around 98-108. Over the past three years averaging 12 rounds I was able to close the gap to average 100 (94 - 104). This year after my typical 8 rounds, my son Mark,  gifted me the Ping G710 irons. At first I liked the looks of the flat black heads, the crack as you hit the ball and  the ball launches off the club. Since then I have played 22 rounds. My average score has dropped to 96 with 12 rounds 94 - 98, 6 rounds 102-106 and 4 of my best rounds ever 88, 91, 92, 93.  I have fewer bad shots, have gained at least 10 yards on my iron play with more accuracy. As my 88 shows I am hitting more greens in regulation and putting myself in better position if not on it. 872785410_BestRound88-2.jpg.17e46c18ea7a6dcbe149ae92c1280fbc.jpg

So the clubs were used for 30 rounds this year (8 by my son) not including many buckets at the range. I feel they have held up well and still really look great.

Can’t go wrong w the G710 irons. You seem to be a natural for them.
As far as the wear it hasn’t bothered me either.

If you look at the specs for the ESX 400 series they are all high launch. The 600 series, which are also heavier are mid to high

Interesting how different clubs work for different people. I tried them this past summer at a fitting and they didn't work for me at all - even though I really wanted them to. They were short on distance and with a WIDE dispersion pattern. D-7 and Cobra SZ were the best and ended up picking the SZs because they were shinier 😂. FYI, at the time the 919 were sold out and the 921's weren't on the market yet.

True that. I’ve tried some of the latest & greatest over the years and didn’t work for me.

I just tested the G710's this past week and found them to be the worst of those in the PING fitting cart.  This really surprised me and I tested that head after I'd been hitting the G410 and i500, and had a good swing/contact mojo going.  Based on the reviews here and on YT, I was expecting them to  do well.  Unless somehow the head weight with the Recoil shaft I used for the test was really different, I have no clue why the poor performance.  Perhaps there is a total club head volume/ cross-sectional area threshold I finally reached?

what about them was troubling? I was a tester.. they weren't ideal for me but still played very straight and long. Long due to the more aggressive lofting.

I went from consistently hitting both the G410 and i500 to within a handful of yards, in distance and dispersion, to short fats, half shanks, and 2/10 solid strikes.  Like I said, it really surprised me.  I switched the shaft back to the G410 and then back to the G710 and not much difference.  They just did not feel good and even my solid hits were meh.

In a way, it was similar to how the Wilson D7's hit for me during my bag fitting at TrueSpec a couple weeks ago.  They were the worst of those I tested.  As I mentioned in another thread, I would never have guessed clubs within the same basic design/playability category would perform so differently.  Subtle difference yes, but not drastic.

hhmm odd. Not too far off from the G410's but weighting could be enough to mess ya up. As a 12hdcp, they're out of your 'classification' anyway. I personally classified them as SGI irons; helped people really sweep the ball. A lot more turf interaction.

On the flip side, i hated the Ping i500's. haha

I love the i500 look and hit them great but they are not really offering any more distance and are less forgiving than the G410.  Much like my recent experiment with the Cobra Forged Tours (PCB category and quite small) I found a threshold.  I loved their look but they were just too demanding.  Not to say their is no other PCB make/model that would match my ball striking capability but I suspect there isn't.  Going the other direction, one would think a better player would not have any issues hitting head designs in the "oversized tennis racquet" category... but maybe that's not the case?

This brings up another question I have about club categories and which is best suited for a player.  Does forcing yourself to game and work at mastering a smaller, less forgiving design, make you a better ball striker?  And, conversely, does choosing a more forgiving club cause one to become sloppy and less focused on delivering an exacting swing path?  We see a lot of tour level players opting for tech and forgiveness even though, as compared to the vast majority of amateurs, their hitting a dime size vs. quarter size contact area.

That’s funny how that happens, not every club is for everyone. A while back I tried the Rogue/Rogue X irons and absolutely hated them !
So far I’m still happy with the G710’s. Of course there’s always the next “shiny thing”

I am down with that theory; to improve, practice hitting blades and not large forgiving clubs. My one rebuttal would be people who just wanna play and have fun. Don't care much about improving at a more detailed level. BUT if you wanna be the best player you can be, practicing small and teaching yourself to miss small will help.

I’ve still got the G710 irons in the bag.
I’m shocked they knocked out the Mizuno’s.
It may be time to part with the Mizzies, they look miserable in the back up bag.

I'm still rocking my G710's as well @Rickp. Again, might be out of my handicap range so to speak, but I like the look and they just launch the ball for me.

That’s what I like, the height! I get a lot of looks because there’s not many G710 irons in the wild.

Agreed with you on that one. They are a pretty solid iron but you don't see a lot of them out there. Happy to hear they're still going strong for you Rick!
