TR1PTIK
So I just finished perusing all 30 pages of the Club Making/Fitting/Repair forum and was surprised to not find any threads discussing what everyone has in their shops (save one thread that asks about workbenches, but doesn't address any tools). With COVID-19 forcing us all inside, I'm contemplating getting into some aspect of club making - shafting/re-shafting, and re-gripping primarily - and I'm really curious to know what everyone uses to get the job done. I'm familiar with GolfWorks and have seen their pre-assembled kits. I'm also aware of many other resources available on the subject, but I want to hear from my fellow spies! Post up fellas! Let us know what's in your shop, what you use it for, and what are your go-to or favorite tools and supplies. Don't forget to include pics if you can. Thanks! edingc
I built my current set of irons with a pretty minimal set of tools/supplies: Harbor Freight 6" Cut Off Saw Harbor Freight Pancake Compressor (already owned) 6" Bench Vise (already owned) DIY Club Length Ruler Golfworks Metal-Sided Shaft Clamp Golfworks Economy Swingweight Scale eBay Air Grip Installer Other things I've collected that make various things easier: Harbor Freight Heat Gun (Good for removing shaft labels, old tape, etc.) Benzomatic TS8000 Propane Torch Harbor Freight Butane Microtorch Golfworks Clubmakers Vice Shaft Extractor Golfworks Spiral Fluted Reamers in .355 and .370 Golfworks Hosel Honing Wire Brushes Gram/Kitchen Scale (already owned) For a hobbyist, the Harbor Freight stuff seems to work just fine. I splurged on the Benzomatic torch because it has multiple uses around the house. I originally purchased a Benzomatic microtorch but it broke after the first couple of uses so I returned it and saved $20 at Harbor Freight by buying their brand (which still works fine!). I would like to add a 1" belt sander of some sort, not sure if I want to splurge for a 42" model or just get the combo 1x30" with 5" disc that Harbor Freight sells. I hand sanded all of my tips and it's not too much work, but I'd love a linen belt to turn ferrules with. My only regret is not spending more on the shaft extractor. It works, but it's finicky and I damaged the tip of a driver shaft because the extractor locked up while I was trying to pull the adapter off. Oh well. Live and learn. I've debated between the 1" belt sander or a combo model like you mentioned. Bummer about the shaft extractor causing an issue and damaging the driver shaft - appreciate the inclusion though as I had been thinking I could just get by with that. May be worth the additional cost for the next step up. edingc 1 Quote Driver: ST190 9.5* Fujikura Atmos Blue 5S Fairway Wood: ST190 15* Fujikura Atmos Blue 6S Hybrid: CLK 17* Fujikura Speeder EVO HB Irons: J40 CB (3-PW) Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 Wedges: Milled Grind 2 54* & 58* Dynamic Gold S200 Putter: Tri-Hot 5k Two 34" Bag: Players 5 Stand Bag Ball: Maxfli Tour
