Ran across this driver over the weekend. Don't have any info regarding the blank ASP...but will try to see if I can get some additional info.

I know they did this with the R5, can't remember if they did it with the R9, but there was definitely a summer release that was essentially a dumbed down version of the original at a more consumer friendly pricepoint.

Yeah they did some lower price point models for some big box stores with the R5 but with this I have no idea why they would not simply get rid of the ASP plate if it is not functional. Trying to get some info on this now.

BTW...love the quote T ;)

My guess is it's easier to leave it there (non-functional) than it would be to redesign a sole plate without one entirely. There's probably also an element of simply wanting to preserve the esthetics of the original as much as possible.

Regardless, I certainly don't have any issue with TM offering an less expensive model with fewer features. As I've said for a while now, I think all this adjustability is over-rated, and the sole plate...I vote for useless.

I'm going with either Proto or not fully assembled yet. The ASP looks to be replaced with either a blank or this is a mold. No reason to keep open, neutral, closed and the arrow designation for the ASP on there otherwise. Might even be a sample.

I second this.

Unfortuately without the adjustability aspect of the R11 it just becomes an average driver. It is the only thing that has them flying off shelves.

The pic, which I noticed afterward, has no MWT either. Is it possible this one has had the weight moved from the perimeter to deeper in the head, where the ASP normally is?

Maybe it's a R11 = R510 no weights, My R510 works just fine with none of that adjustability, just like my Callaway FT9 TA. Both those heads I can paint white and they could be the next 2012 driver, for those who are set with a fixed head driver.LOL. Very interested to see what it actually is???

MY money is on the counterfeit claim.

There is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much of this type of thing that goes on, anymore that it scares me to buy a new driver, anywhere except the retail outlets. EBay is riddled with the garbage, as is Craigslist.org.

Looking forward to hearing what TM has to say on this particular item.

  • 4 weeks later...

I'm betting on this being the 460cc model, thinking about it later. The R7 and R9 460's didn't have the weights, etc. I'm betting that's what this is.

The R11 is already 460, the R9 came out with a 460 version because the original was 420.

Wrong, the R11 is 440cc's. http://www.taylormadegolf.com/products/drivers/R11-driver/product-detail-specifications

Looks even smaller due to the graphic placements.
