Players-Game Improvement Irons

I finally got back into golfing after almost 15! years off. I've been playing and practicing heavily for about a year, and I'm looking to get a new set irons that will complement my game.

Right now, I see myself in the game improvement category of irons, but I'm trending towards players in the near future. What are some of the best irons that can be categorized as a bit of a hybrid between players and game improvement? I'm left handed, so my options are somewhat limited. I've been eyeing the Ben Hogan Edge or PTx, so bonus points if you have experience with those. Thanks!

The hybrid between those are players distance irons. Examples are p790, i500, t200, t100s possibly, g710, z585

The best thing to do is get fit and find what iron regardless of category fits you best. Imo there’s no such thing as a game improvement club. Game improvement comes from getting better and that can happen with any type of club and can be maintained with same club. I have low hdcp friends with high swing speed that play GI and have friends that mis hdcp and mid swing speed that play/prefer smaller heads

Try what you like the look of first, regardless if its a blade or GI club.

Then narrow it down based on feel and performance.

I've been a blade man nearly all my life, moved to something in between the last 10 years but the GI clubs these days are looking and sounding so much better.

I play with 3 guys early teens handicap who play thin blades, cause thats what they like.

I also play with 2 guys who are Plus handicaps and one Professional golfer who have ugly game improvement irons (imo). These guys could play blades but they like the look, feel and performance of their GI clubs which are the earlier ones classed as shovels in some quarters.

There is no right or wrong answer, play what you like and gives you the most enjoyment in golf.

I meant to add, as one of the lucky testers of the new Ping 710 GI irons I am personally keen to see if they could be my new gamers as they look great and I've always liked a wider looking iron.

Definitely recommend getting fitted like others have said. Some people perform better with GI and some people do better with blades...all depends on you, your swing, and your preferences.

To answer your question though, best GI clubs to me are the Titleist T300 and if you want something in the middle then the Titleist T200/AP3 are my choices. Again, getting fitted is your best option though.
