At 16 I had a 66 Chevelle which was a 396 to begin with then later on a 427---- Yep I got in a boatload of trouble--- Lost my license before 17

My previous post I had put in Chevelle and spell check charity to Chevrolet.
Yup, I loved that Chevelle but marriage, kids & Uncle Sam all changed things.
I had a chance to buy it back in the late 80’s I hesitated and someone else grabbed it.

My first car was a 1966 Dodge Dart with 4 on the floor and a V8 that I got from my great grandmother. She bought it new in 1965 and by the time I turned 16 it had a 426 hemi, positraction rear end and a cage. Darn I miss that car.

My Dad was a car guy. He already had the block when she gave it to me. Also the same guy that put a 75 shot of NOS in a 1952 Indian Chief that he restored.

My dad was a body shop manager.. I ended up with a '75 mustang (not 1st car but 2nd), yes I know the Dumpy little ones.. But I put a 375hp 302 in it, Small and light.. Means quick and Fast. Cops didn't give me a second look... Nothing like 1000hp, but for a 17yr old kid it worked..

Remember when you could buy a muscle car in great shape for $1500.... AH the days... All my friends had mustangs, camaro's, el caminos.. heck we bought and sold cars like they were nothing..

Nothing wrong with cars and bikes

I had a ‘72 Pinto that ‘breathed’ a little better than stock. That little car would hang neck and neck with V8’s until we reached 70mph. Then I’d run out of ponies. My favorite.

Then a ‘74 Monte Carlo with a 454. Black on black with white pin stripe down the side. Fully loaded, the only thing it was missing was a T-Top. Swivel bucket seats! Yeah baby! Oh, to have that one back again!

Later, a first year Honda CRX, 1984. New. Pocket rocket.

Now a Hemi filled Grand Cherokee and old fat Harley

Very nice. My Dad had a few Monte Carlos that were far from stock. I believe one of them when I was a kid had a big block and was supercharged, I do remember the two speed power glide in it. They were before I was really into cars and turning wrenches but remember riding in it.

This is as close as I can find these days. This one has leather whereas mine was cloth.

Big car that handled really well. Loved pulling away from a stop with the tires just barely squealing. A sign of maximum traction. At least out of a street car.

The oil embargo of ‘77 (I think, maybe’78) separated me from the Monte. Later on it caught fire and burned to the ground

This was my 2000 mustang GT that was stealth 1,200 HP at the rear tires that I unfortunately buried into a telephone pole on my way to work. Thanks to the cage I walked away with no injury.

Yep those were they days--- I can remember back in like 76 I bought a 440 Six Pack 4 speed Dodge Super Bee for $400--- The only reason I gave $400 for it because the body and interior were trashed out is because it had a brand new Kraco 8 track tape player and new Bass 88 speakers. I was in the Navy then and guys were always selling cars cheap because of changing duty stations. Two other guys and myself had a place rented outside of Norfolk where we kept our cars. In fact in 76 I bought and sold so many cars I got a letter from the Commonwealth of Virginia warning me if I ran one more title through their system in a certain time I would have to buy a Dealer License. OK I shrugged I just ran my titles through NC because my cousin worked for the DMV there. I remember from like 73 to 76 I sold an old 66 LTD Ford 4 door 6 times.

Two cars I wish I could have bought.. I had the chance to by a original numbers matching '69 Boss 302 with less than 30k on it factory 4 speed.. Real deal.. for 7k..oh yeah with an entire Boss 302 crate motor still in the crate, paperwork included from '69..  in '88 but at the time no one was going to give a 20 yr old 7k grand for a 19yr old mustang..

I also was offered a 67 T-bird 4 door (suicide doors rear), leather, SUNROOF, all power, with a wait for it wait for it.. 427 Super Cobra jet... It was the owner of the body shop my dad managed, it had layers of dust on it.. car had 40k mikes on it.. had been parked for 15yrs.. poured fresh gas in carb and charged battery it fired right up ran like a dream.. 3 grand.. but hell I was 17 and couldn't work out a deal.. Still wish I could have figured something out for either one..

One change to the bag, going with a Betti Roc & Roll long putter that I was able to acquire. There were 10 of these made in total, 4 went to Rocco and 6 went to a dealer for sale. I confirmed with the dealer this was not one of the 6 he sold and through another source we believe this is the putter mentioned in this story.

Putter is now set. Going with the classic Scotty Pro Platinum Big Sur. One of the few putters I have ever sold and now bought back. One purchase that my wife made me make since it was a putter I made everything with when she used to caddy for me. After three rounds with it in the bag she was not wrong.
