Golf net suggestions.

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to set up for practice on my backyard, since we will be home until at least April 30, I'm looking for a net that is easy to set up and take down, but that can take full driver swings with real golf balls.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Stay safe and hit straight.

A lot of guys like the Rukket nets.

That's a little closer to the top end of your budget but those seem to be pretty popular.

Since I can't play golf, I have cleaned up a storage room behind my garage that got cluttered from my recent move.  I am installing a net inside, but this net is an outside net, but you have to build the supports.  However, there are many YouTube videos to follow.  This net has high reviews; the black version is outdoors and there is a white version that is for indoor use.  I'm going white.  Comes in many sizes.    Might want to check the Just For Nets website, and the black is available at Amazon.

Thank you, I had not considered built my own, I might be able to run an anchor and header cables accross the yard and slide it open and closed as needed.

Never thought of that!  Good idea.  I could probably do the same, but I don't thing SWMBO would like that.  Inside it's out of sight, and usable in the winter.

I got to check out if that violate any hoa rules or not, but would be kinda like a high and low lines, probably could anchor it straight into a couple fence posts and use some steel cable like this

If I did put one in the yard, it would have to be able to take down and put up easy.  The net isn't heavy, and inside I'm going to use PVC that can be disassembled because I want to use the space for other activities.  I think I may be able to use it in both locations; just can't leave the white net outside.  Maybe I should get the black net?

I spent the last couple weeks going back and forth on whether or not to buy a hitting mat and net so I can hit balls at home. Researched a ton of them and finally pulled the trigger on a Spornia SPG-7 after lots of deliberation. I don't think it will arrive for another couple weeks still but I'll let you know how it is once it arrives. It was about $200 so I figure even if I were to ust use it for the rest of the quarantine period, that's less than it would cost me to go to the range for 20 days, or to play three or four rounds of golf. Plus then I'll have a net to use on days I don't have time to go to the range/course.

Anybody have any tips on how to make hitting into a net actually worth the practice?  I mean if I can't see where the ball is going (I've been working on not over drawing/hooking irons) how do I know if the practice is doing me any good and not just creating bad habits that'll have to be corrected when I can see where the ball is going?  Maybe I just need a launch monitor...anybody got a fancy one they want to let me borrow?  haha

While a launch monitor will be useful in optimizing ball flight and distance, the best use of net practice comes when you set up Face On and Down The Line video of your swing.  Easy to see swing flaws, and if you work with an instructor to eliminate flaws, you will see better ball flight and distance.

I have been using the Maxfli 9x8. It's on sale for $112 right now. They have a smaller one that is 75 that I think would work. The 9x8 is plenty big and strong enough to hand every shot I've hit at it so far. It takes maybe 5-8 minutes to set up and is quick to tear down. I'd recommend it for sure.

I just bought this one and love it. Paid an extra $15 for 2nd day air UPS.

I move one of the cars out to the driveway and use it up in the garage

Easy to assemble the first time. And takes less than 60 seconds to partially break it down and lean against the side of the garage wall so I can park the car back in the garage.

I put up 5 moving blankets. hung then from my garage. First shot with a 6 iron, with only one blanket,  went straight through and ricocheted in my garage. Thats when I put up the other blankets. My problem is hitting off a carpet on top of cardboard. Waiting for my mat to arrive in the mail.

MGS just posted a net review that might be a good idea to check out.

One problem with a net is the lack of feedback on your ball flight. Unless you have flight monitor you could make your swing worse since you could be practicing the wrong thing over and over again without realizing it.

Looks a lot like the Spornia but cheaper.  Anyone know if they are similar or is it just that they look similar?  You hit driver into it?  The Spornia got good reviews on the MGS  best nets article.

As an update, my Spornia SPG-7 arrived earlier this week and I've used it several times. It has far exceeded my expectations and I can't recommend it highly enough. It is about 20 pounds, folds down and stores into a bag that is small enough to toss over your shoulder, and can be set up and/or taken down in less than 3 minutes once you know how to do it. Definitely recommend.

I grabbed this one via Amazon Prime a few weeks ago...

GoSports Golf Practice Hitting Net | Choose Between Huge 10' x 7' or 7' x 7' Nets | Personal Driving Range for Indoor or Outdoor Use | Designed by Golfers for Golfers

I got the 10x7 version via Amazon Warehouse for around 60 bucks.
I've used it a few times and so far it is great!

I'll probably get some extra netting and add it to the back just in case but absolutely no issues at this time.

Suggestion: check out Amazon Warehouse - I've been able to scoop up some good deals there and the stuff is practically new
