Walking vs Riding

Recommended Posts

Does anyone always enjoy walking vs riding for a round of golf? I walk as much as I can 9 holes more often than 18 holes but there is just something about walking that puts me in a more focused mindset. It is also relaxing just to enjoy the weather and company during a round of golf.

Walking most definitely.  Get a great workout.  But the wear and tear of carrying my clubs takes it toll at times, so I caved and got me one of the pull carts, but still walk any chance I get.

Walking!! Plus it makes rounds faster when everyone walks to their own ball instead of waiting in the car lot for each shot before driving to the next ball.

I mix it up. Walking in the spring, fall and when it's not to hot in the summer. July and August can get pretty rough in Eastern TN. Then its cart time! Plus my home course has a few holes with some pretty big hills to walk up. I use a pull cart when walking. (Or dragging it uphill on a few holes)

If it's under 90 out I walk, unless beers are involved.

I’m at 7,000 ft above sea level so I like riding best. The courses that are currently open only allow walking so I walked 18 last week. It is terrible when you get to your ball and have to wait for your heart rate to come down a bit before taking your next shot. On the bright side, I lost three pounds during the round. I am just thankful that I can get out and play. I do agree that I am more focused when I walk though.

As long as it isn’t blazing hot, I’m walking. It’s good exercise, plus, I find it much more relaxing than riding in a cart. A push cart is a must however.

I want to try walking more often this year, better for my back and overall health, as it is, I walk a lot, after hitting a shot I often take a couple clubs and leave the cart with my partner, so I can walk to my ball.

I'm in Ohio and thankfully golf is still allowed during the stay-at-home order. While I'm usually a speedy, see how many holes you can get in cart guy, I found a new appreciation for walking.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I prefer walking, except when it gets above 90 degrees.  I'm in uncharted waters physically, and fear I may be riding in a cart going forward, versus not playing at all.  We'll see how it goes.

I always walk the 5 main courses I play: there are a couple up on the wasatch shelf here that you’d have to be insane to try To hoof. I used to cart when playing with my wife, but she’s good enough to walk now and just got a cliqgear 4.0. I’m thinking I might need a pushcart for my back’s sake...

I prefer to walk most of the time. If I'm on vacation with buddies and we are boozing, we'll usually get a cart.

Golf tips are like aspirin. One may do you good, but if you swallow the whole bottle you will be lucky to survive.

I prefer walking. With the mild winter we just had, I had the opportunity to do it much more. Played, walking 18 yesterday and today. I play better and enjoy the exercise. I also walk very fast and don’t like all the running around in a cart.

I walk 99% of the time. I really enjoy the exercise. Due to illness I found that I needed a electric buggy which made a huge difference. The course I play regularly has some small hills and in particular the back 9 so having an electric buggy just made is so much easier.

I need to make more of an effort to walk. I enjoy walking way more than riding. I also feel like I play better when I walk because I stay loose. The problem is all my golf buddies don't enjoy walking so I end up riding with them.
