Speaking of, my course recently replaced its carts with ones outfitted with a GPS system that only allows backing out of restricted areas. Being primarily a walker myself (and a bit of a grouch, as I mentioned earlier) I take a certain pleasure watching guys sheepishly reversing out of a spot they never should have entered. The best is when they beach it and have to push, though.

... Viking adding to my considerate vs inconsiderate, give me 10 golfers and you will find 10 different opinions about exactly how long a round of golf should take and what techniques you should use while playing. I play as a single a lot and enjoy meeting new people. A 3 hour round can be too fast to socialize and a 5 hour round can be agonizingly slow. There is a balance between playing a game as an athlete, walking certainly helps, and socializing between shots. I play with people that think 4 hours is too slow and others that think 4 hours is too fast. Not exactly based in science but I find the sweet spot to be 3.5 to 4.5 hours. Now that said, I have played rounds in 3.5 hours that seemed to drag on forever because the group in front goes quickly from tee to green and then screeches to a halt because they are betting and taking forever on the greens. I have also played with a family of 3 playing from different tees in 4.5 hours keeping up both the group in front, immensely enjoying their company and it seemed to be over too quickly.

... There are no easy formula's to follow when it comes to how long a round should take. Common sense, play ready golf and keep up with the group in front of you will dictate the speed of most rounds. Obviously you are a little different wanting to play alone and as fast as possible which seems to work for you. I just hope those in the restaurant know the Heimlech maneuver if you start choking eating your lunch in 3.5 minutes. 🤪

Funny and interesting reply. I think most people agree a 4 hour round should be normal and most courses here in Manitoba post that as well to encourage faster play. II think everyone thinks 4 hours is kind of the standard max. Am I wrong in this? Serious question.

I take 30 minutes to an hour for lunch depends on if it is full meal special (eg. soup and or salad and plate of food vs just a sandwich or a burger) and how much time I take going over my score card and thinking about my round.

Have a nice day Chisag.

Thought it would be fun to hear what makes all of you cringe on the golf course.

Here are mine...

1) Please don't play a round of golf with iron covers, or even take them out in public for that matter

2) Please don't twirl your club after every shot; if you do, know that you're being laughed at

3) Please don't drive to an adjacent hole looking for your snap hook, and pick up a ball that isn't yours; don't be that guy. While you're doing it people are saying "ugh that idiot is definitely picking up my ball"

I never thought I'd be number one but I don't wanna F@#% up my Hybrid irons.....

Here is what I am arguing Viking. Reread your post I quoted here. You said you could play 18 holes in a little over an hour. Not 2.5 hours like you claim now, which I know is doable. I’m done arguing with you. You clearly believe that your golf game is the norm and should be played your way.

Hey BNGB sorry for the misunderstanding an executive course has many ponds / man made lakes and is a par 3 18 hole course. Do you not have those in Iowa?

I believe this could be the future of golf as it greatly speeds up play so people can golf it before or after work or take a longer lunch hour, great also for busy parents with busy children schedules. This one is built right next to a BMX track park and the course has a driving range as well and is on the Trans Canada highway, the 3,500 mile double divided east to west highway that goes right across Canada. It is also only 20 minutes outside of Winnipeg (the capital of Manitoba with a population of 700,000, our Provincial total is only 1 million so a gret spot for a course. It is in my home municipality (the first in our province and the 3rd largest I was the CFO there) which is what you would call a county.

So yes when I played this course I walked and it took 1.25 - 1.5 hours, depending on how long I had to take to find any balls that I shot in the ponds, marshes, rough or farmers field.

FYI an executive course as it is a par 3 course is much faster to play than a regular golf course. All other par 3 courses here in Winnipeg are 9 holes so it is unique.

Stay safe BNGB.

Are golf courses open there now?

Do you expect them to be open this year? When?

How long is your golf season in Iowa?

Sorry BNGB you are confusing / assuming what an executive course is. It is an 18 hole par 3. Yes I walk that in 1.25-1.5 hours where as I play 18 in a regular course in a power cart in 2-2.5 hours as it is a par 72 vs a par  54. Sorry I did not explain executive course to you but I did mention executive in my postings. Guess I though you had those courses where you are as well.

To be truthful when I say 2-2.5 hours in a cart to play 18, I mean also do I just play 1 ball or2 balls at once. I have for the last couple of years played 2 balls at once, that way I can play 2 games (36 holes) but only have  to actually ride/ walk / play 18 holes. I find that this greatly speeds up my previous way of playing 36 holes by playing 18 then replaying 18. Again as I said my nick name is Rapid Randy. I am an accountant and an efficiency consultant / senior manager.

Hopefully that totally explains it to you BNGB. By the way are you a moderator here? As you know I have only been posting here of 2-3 days but have been on the site for years just never went in the forums unless to enter to win contests or become a tester but since the rules changed (I was reclassified as a recruit, I had to start posting again so I could enter like I always did in the past. So blame the rules change on my increased activity.

Stay safe BNGB. Have a nice day.

We have par 3 courses here in Iowa but not all executive courses are full par 3’s. An executive course is simply a way to describe a lower total par course. A 9-hole course with 2 par 3’s and no par 5’s could be described as an executive course.
Yes course in Iowa are open as we are one of the states without a shelter in place order. On a good year we can golf April to middle to end of October.

We have a course in Winnipeg that has 18 holes all par 3's but with 4 par 4's as well par is 54-57 so yes I guess that course would be considered an executive course by your explanation (and likely yours is correct vs mine by being just a shorter par 3, even in total length), but that course is much longer than the executive par 3 course I talk about. I played this course often in Winnipeg it is called Shooters. I played it 10+ times in one year, it takes me I think around 3.25 hours to play walking depending on how many times I am out of bounds in water as it is like Fantasy Lake (par 3 that I refer to) has lots of water hazards.

I am surprised that Iowa has the same season as we do in Manitoba considering how much farther south you are.

Sorry I thought you might be a moderator. Who are the moderators here, again I am a new forum user because of the unannounced changes?

Yes I agree. Some courses have marshals here in Manitoba (in the 1970-1990s almost all did) but not any more (cost savings) and they would make you pick up the pace of play if you were to slow i.e. going at a 4+ hour rate and would escort you to the next tee box if you ignored the previous warnings you received from the marshal.

With the new golf course rules here (assuming courses will open up here this year), it looks like marshals must be back on all courses but only to enforce social distancing rules, making sure people do not touch pins or pick up or look for golf balls in the woods, fields or ponds and don't touch any food or drink from the cart girl and don't use the bathrooms on the course (they are closed except one course they will be open because they are having roving staff clean them for health rules). Yeah only washrooms tath will be open on golf courses will be ones in the club house.

Yep both men and women will now be peeing in the bushes and I guess taking extra score cards or TP in case of a #2 on the course. Well I guess the courses will benefit from more natural fertilizer and maybe save some money that way but sucks for golfers for obvious reasons and especially for the unfortunate golfer who hits it out of bounds and on top of fresh pile. Hopefully if they are in this unfortunate situation they can hit a clean shot with no divot or at least take a drop from the drop. Maybe this is why they also made all courses remove the ball washers, not just to stop people from touching them and potentially spreading covid 19 but to also stop #2 bacteria on the balls contaminating the ball washers and thus golfers. Yep a truly s***** situation.

I guess we are lucky in Canada vs America because very very few golfers play with music here either with boom boxes, in their cart or bag or with their cell smart phones or because we are more considerate of others.

A peeve I have is when I am partnered up with a chain smoker golfer in a cart. Twice in one year, the same person, during a golfapalooza (all the golf you can play in a day with a cart), really nice guy to golf with and talk with but man the smoke was terrible as he constantly had a cigarette or colt in his mouth, he even placed it on the ground when he teed off or hit any shots and picked it back up to continue smoking. He would lite one from the other because he never stopped having a cigarette. I have never smoked in my life and neither has my wife but as a kid my parents did so you can image how much I did not like smelling the constant smoke.

All of that sounds like a 100% off the boat Italian. Haha

Nothing beats good homemade pasta though. My wife and I took a cooking class that was all raviolis. So simple to make and delicious. I really should be doing it more while I’m home. I bet the kids would have fun with it too.

... When I played so much in Phoenix last winter I would say roughly 50% of my playing partners were from Canada. I would tell them I speak fluent Canadian because all you have to do is start every sentence with "Oh" and end it with "eh?"  like after a good putt  "Oh, great weight eh?"  Hoser was thrown in for good measure if we were really hitting it off. 🤪

... I sure hope any of our forum members in Georgia stay home and safe after the Gov is opening businesses like tattoos parlors, hair and nail salons, bowling ally's and soon after movie theaters too name a few, where all those that are asymptomatic can infect others to take home to their family. 😟  If he at least let Mayors follow what they think is best for their own cities as I imagine a handful of really small town might be able to make something like that work. But the bigger cities might be in for a very rough ride.

I have some concern greater Atlanta area. If they do this right it may be OK. People still have to be smart about this.

My first real job in early 70’s had quite a few French Canadians working there, great guys, hard workers and I never understood a word they said

Please don't walk up to the tee, pat your pockets and realize -- after three people have already hit - that you dont have a tee! My dad used to do that to me all the time. He's 89 and doesn't play anymore. I wish he could drive me crazy again.

... I think the biggest problem by far with Covid is those that have it without any symptoms. These people are cooped up and want to get out and go to all the places in Atlanta or just open for business and get back to work, but without testing first, they can spread the virus like wildfire. Obviously this explains how it spread so fast and so far, people have no idea they are infected and pass it on to others that are not so lucky. Depending on what science you believe, and I am with the better safe than sorry folk , anywhere from 40-75% have Covid with zero symptoms. Just such an insidious virus.

That worries me, as I live close to Chattanooga and many people I work with are from Georgia. We haven't gotten the call to return to work yet, and I'm still going they wait until their original plan of May 10. We have a Zoom meeting scheduled tomorrow and I'll find out then.

Back in my trucking days one of my customers was a Case IH dealer in Quebec. When I delivered a piece of machinery they had to put the tires and wheels on it before we could unload. We could not understand each other but worked well together. The tire thing was explained to me by another dealer in Ontario. Seems it has something to do with duty taxes etc into Quebec. They could get naked wheels shipped into Quebec regular rate and they got tires cheaper in Quebec cheaper than paying the associated duties

My iron head covers are just for tranasport. I take them off before starting the round & put them back on as I put the bag in the trunk. Just trying to keep them looking good for as long as possible. Also the reason I have a golf bag with individual club pockets; keeps the shafts for banging together (Sun Mountain C130 bag. Yes, it's a cart bag. I'm old, get over it!!!). 😀
