Did you get fitted for your clubs, or what's been your process to build your set? I ask, because I got fitted a couple of years ago, and want to tinker with my driver, or at least my driver's shaft.

@Jason24 For me, cost has always been a factor as we are a one-income family of five.  The only club I've ever been fitted for was a driver back in 2011 - Wishon 915 CFE.  The absolute best club I've ever owned.  Felt extreme confidence in it every time I pulled it from the bag.  I got rid of it last year b/c I felt like the head was weak.  (Ball speed didn't seem to measure up with my swing speed.)

I've been thinking about getting fit this year for the whole bag, but just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

@AGutierrez7 I've hit the irons only a few times, but going from cast to forged again brings back good, buttery memories!  They are surprisingly longer than I expected.

I feel the budget! And cannot pay for another fitting, although I did do the True Fit one for $9. That has got me wondering about just changing my shaft, because a new driver would not be welcomed in my household currently. How do you go about choosing your new driver if you didn't get fitted for it?

Jason24 & Jason Jarrett, I feel your pain on the budget.  That said, I'd strongly suggest a driver fitting to make sure whatever you spend, you are getting the best to help your game.  I do fittings for a national chain. Driver fitting is under $30, but there is no charge if you buy the club - new or pre-owned.  There are a lot of affordable driver options including new from prior years or gently used.  The fittings help the most when getting a new current year model club since you can spec the shaft and the length from the factory. But I have helped a lot of folks looking at used clubs and working through some different mfr, loft and shaft options.  When you do go for a fit, be sure to bring in your current gamer for a baseline.

Same thing on fitting for the irons.  Fitting charge is under $50 but n charge if you get the clubs.

I also really like those JPX 850s.  Not sure what you were hitting before, but these are a little stronger lofted than classic Mizunos.

@Jason24 My best solution for buying clubs on a tighter budget is through eBay.  I was looking at the newer TM drivers, but the money invested in those is quite a lot.  I went back to Youtube and watched reviews of the R15 drivers and looked at some of the numbers compared to current ones and didn't find that much difference.  So, I opted to buy a R15 head (brand new) on eBay for like $40-50.  Now, the shaft was a different story.  I like the 60-65 gram weight in my driver, so I thought "Why not buy a Fuji Speeder?"  Absolutely zero statistical evidence on which one I should buy.  I have always played a Stiff, but I got a Regular in the Speeder Evolution III 661, and it feels great.  However, my ball flight is too low.  Going back to a previous post in this thread, the only fitted club I've hit was a driver, and it was incredible.  (and not a major brand - Wishon Golf)

@jkpigott I like the gently used and previous year versions a lot.  The JPX 850s are great so far.  I was hitting a set of Callaway Razr X Tour cast before.  Strong lofts too, but just didn't do it for me.

I like that bag a lot!  I've only been fitted for my irons.  I think it's important but, it's not everything.  I'm a tinkerer so getting cheaper second hand clubs and testing them is a great way to go.  It's seems that it has been proven a lot that clubs are not getting any better as far as performance year to year...  I like it doing it this way because it's fun to hit new clubs and it's more budget friendly.  I think I'm going to dabble with Mizunos the next time I start looking at irons.  Those look like a great place to start...
