Jason Jarrett
I'm wondering who the best current professional golfer from your state is. I live in Tennessee, so my vote is going to be Brandt Snedeker, winner of the 2012 FedEx Cup and a member of the Mr. 59 club, which he shot in 2018 at the Wyndham Championshp. What state do you live in, and who is the best current professional golfer from there? Retrop
Not much to pick from in North Dakota! Only one option on the PGA, in fact, and he wasn't even born here! Tom Hoge was born in North Carolina but grew up in Fargo. No tour wins for him yet, but he was racking up top 10s before this year's season was postponed. On the LPGA, ND's claim to fame is Amy Olson--she also grew up in Fargo and went to college in North Dakota too. Your list did remind if of the couple of times I got to play with Chandler Harper back in the 90s. "Old Bones" was an amazing man. He saw combat during WWII as well. He wasn't one of the "celebrity" golfers who gave lessons to officers and did USO missions to entertain the soldiers. He actually served on a naval warship from 1942 through 1945. Mr. Harper won the Virginia State Open in 1970 at the age of 56 and finished second in 1977 (age 63) and 1979 (age 65) with Lanny and Bobby Wadkins and Allan and Curtis Strange in he field. Finishing ahead of all of them in '77 and '79. When I have friends who aren't from Virginia look over the list of winners of the VIrginia State Open, they are all fascinated. Tom McKnight is from my hometown. He gave me my first job in high school. You will see him several times in the second link. He beat Sergio Garcia in the 1998 US Amateur semifinal and lost ot Hank Kuehne in the final. Mr. McKnight finished T-43 in the 1999 Masters just behind Sergio as low amateur. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Open https://web.archive.org/web/20130604211329/http://vsga.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/suntrust-open.pdf cnosil 1 Quote Link to comment
