Who can golf during COVID?

Recommended Posts

Most of the courses in my area have stayed open by using modified local rules to help maintain social distance. Single riders in carts, not removing flags etc.

In NC it depends, Asheville muni is closed but there are some private courses open. Hendersonville they are all open, but are following the social distancing guidelines

Our courses have been closed but I'm not really sure why. I often play as a single and don't really want people around me on the course anyway. I guess humans can't be trusted to follow basic guidelines.

Here in PA we are completely shut down WHICH SUCKS!!!! Don't understand why we couldn't have the restrictions and changes that other states have. The boredem is really kicking in and could really use a round. Eveyrone have seperate cart, contactless payment, and play some golf. Really looking forward to when this is lifted. Jealous of other statest that can still play.

I've played a bunch in central Indiana over the last two weeks. Since Indianapolis and Marion county have closed their courses, business is brisk in the surrounding counties. The pro at Hawk's Tail in Greenfield said he set a record for bookings last Saturday, and he isn't opening until 10am!

Ohio is still open for golf as long as the course follows certain safety procedures. I played a course last weekend, Denison Golf Club, and there were no flag sticks. It forced me to aim at the center of the green. I played to my handicap and I'm convinced it's because I wasn't pin-seeking. I read an article that night that best thing that ameteur golfers could do is aim for the middle of the green!

I gave up on pin seeking a few years ago and it did help. Now I only look at the slope of the green and aim accordingly.

Scoot,

Sorry NY is closed for business.  Specially upstate where much fewer outbreaks vs the city.  I'm north of Atlanta and most courses are open.  Home course has nice putting, chipping, and driving range.  Bathrooms closed.  Mats spread 10-12".  One to a cart unless family member.  Social  distancing marked off in clubhouse.  Other than that , feels pretty normal.  Hope your Gov relents on upstate soon.

Yes, he finally gave permission to open in upstate!

Our governor finally let courses in upstate open and now it has snowed for 3 days straight. Next week looks warmer.

There's a whole other thread about this, but we are able to golf in both Florida and Georgia.  I'm currently out with really painful back pain, and don't know when I'll resume playing.  But if I was healthy I would be playing.

The governor of New York is colossal asshat IMHO, but he's simply a reflection of his constituents, again IMHO.

I agree but take exception to the "constituents" comment. Just because I live here makes me a constituent but me and most of NY thinks he's an asshat. He only won the 4 large cities and lost all other counties in the last 2 elections. New York City controls him and he makes all decisions based on what will give him the city votes. Do you realize that there is a lot more to the state than that big s*** hole on the southern tip?

Wasn't the Florida governor the one who thought that churches shouldn't be included?

ADK upstate or WNY upstate?

I live in Rochester and we’re still a few weeks away from our peak impact. Keep in mind that It’s only April. If we do right by the stay at home, there’s hope that we’ll be able to see these rules eased sooner than later.

We’re all in this together.

ADK Upstate. We're open now.

We are still shut down in WA.  It's been a month.  This is the longest I have gone without playing golf since I took up golf in 1991.  I think I need counseling.

I live in Phoenix and am grateful that we get to play golf. Every course I have played here and many others are still open. I earned a couple free rounds through my municipal course membership and have some free hot times from golfpass to use. It’s the only thing I’ve done outside of jogging/walks in the neighborhood and fast grocery store trips in 6 weeks.
Ive played at least once each week if not twice.
I either walk or ride in a cart alone. Usually play by myself.

I learned yesterday that my league is canceled for the year.

Wow that hurts. Does the league normally play throughout the entire year?

Our league normally starts up the middle of May. While our course is open we haven't heard where our league is on or off.

We normally would have started last week, for 20 weeks. While the course should open in May, their financial conditions for leagues (prepay the entire season, including cart fees, no walking, no refunds for rainouts, and more) are outrageous.

I got very lucky when my exec here in Chandler closed down for the month of April. I had bought into the monthly membership about a week before they "self-closed". They had made an agreement that anyone with a membership of any sort could continue to golf at-will and that they would maintain the course in the duration.

The only downside.. but not really is that it's walking only. My fat arse could use the steps.

They are also giving me an extra month when they open back up.

I've gone probably 5 times in the past 2 weeks. Usually I'm one of the few people on the whole course and it's being meticulously cared for. Just look at that green carpet!

the more I practice, the luckier I seem to get..
