ballplayer002003
I currently use an old Callaway Apex UT driving iron and I am thinking it may be time for an update. I have been virtually looking at the TM P790, Mizuno HMB, Srixon Z U85 and Titleist U500/510. Do any of you guys have these and if so, what are your likes and dislikes about them. I have looked at reviews, and I have hit the HMB irons (just not the 2 iron) and know they feel soft. All of the shops in my area are closed so I can't hit any. I would love to see a MGS testing on these since in recent weeks I have seen a lot of people talking about them. I plan on upgrading and I will hit them before I do so don't worry. null
Srixon is great, but it's wide sole is no bueno off the deck for me as a shallow swinger U500 and P790UDI are probably the most iron like and my two personal favorites MP20 sits somewhere in-betweeen the Srixon and the other two. As much as I absolutely love a 2 iron off the tee, it just doesn't make sense for me to carry since I get better versatility out of a hybrid. With my 818H2, I can hit it off the deck and off the tee and get plenty of launch and a solid angle of descent into the greens . Quote Link to comment

What did I think? I hate utility/driving irons; give me a hybrid. They are probably fine off a tee, But just don’t do what I want and require me to change my swing to hit them effectively. I fully agree and you are talking to a person that used to carry and sometimes still does 1 and 2 irons. I only carry 1 hybrid and that is set to 18 degrees. Tried 2 driving irons and found that yes they are slightly easier to hit of a tee but I found harder to hit off the fairway unless it was sitting up. The only issue I have with my hybrid is it takes allot more work to move the ball. Wondergiulio
I currently am testing Sub70 699U 3 iron. Jason is really amazing and from my order the demo arrived in 2 days... Shaft is a Project X graphite 6.0. Not my favorite shaft and probably the only thing I would change. the club is so sweet. Has a huge sweet spot and is easy to send in the air. Even misfits lose very little power. I am testing it on my skytrak and numbers are what expected. CHoyle14
I play and love the Tour Edge CBX Ironwoods. They don't look as bulk and offset like most of the Driving irons out there. I started with the 3 iron for tee shots only, but after hitting a few shots from the fairway I found that it was a better play than my stock 3 iron. I then went out and bought the 4 iron to replace my stock 4 iron. They both have the Project X HZD Smoke shaft in them and I couldn't be happier with their performance. I have had some of my higher handicap friends try them and they were shocked at how easy they were to hit. They definitely improved my game. Quote Hit'em straight and not too often!!! Link to comment
