  1. 1. Would you rather have a HOLE IN ONE on a par 3 or an Albatross on a Par 5?

To be clear, I saw this discussion on social media somewhere (so I didn’t come up with this myself) but it got me thinking for sure.
Everybody chases the hole in one. Some people hit multiple in there lifetime and some never seem to find it. The Albatross isn’t talked about nearly as much, but holing a par 5 in two shots is also I great accomplishment.
So, my question for you, which one of the two would you rather have if you could only have one? Let me know what you think....

I’ve got 3 aces so I’ll have to take the albatross. I’ve been close a handful of times but you know what they say about close. Horseshoes & Hand grenades.

I’ve had one HIO, I’d much rather have an albatross on any hole...though a par 5 is much more likely than a par 4.

Both are the same on a par 3.

Not correct.  Hole in 1 on a par 3 is an eagle.   Hole in one on a Par 4 is an albatross.  Hole in one on a par 5 is a condor (yes there have been some).

Since most people ask how many hole in ones you have and not how many albatrosses,  I'd take the hole in one.     And no,  I don't have either.

Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to have a hole in one. I’m not trying to downplay it. But Becky from down the road playing her first round of golf can make good contact, get lucky and have it go in for a hole in one (I’ve heard of that exact thing happening). An Albatross takes two amazing shots. Much harder and I feel way more rare.

yes,  a hole in one is pure luck and it doesn't even require good contact.  An albatross can take one shot as well 🙂       By my point is still valid,  how many people ask if you have made an albatross?

My statistical outliers include (4) of the biggest bird trophies (plus a re-tee three on a par 4), but zero aces.

I have been told on more than one occasion, those stats are clearly indicative of some karmic preclusion from dunking one.

So, if the future ghost of DLK told me I'd never otherwise bag a HIO, any of those weird deuces would be on the trading block for an opportunity to write (1) on the card.

Moral of the story - rarity (sub: scarcity) is a relative concept.

This would also seem an opportune juncture to revisit the bloated raptor -vs- gargantuan sea bird debate, and vote in the poll @GolfSpy MPR started to settle the matter once and for all.

*Before you click through: selfishly lobbying for votes, may I remind you "albatross" (ref: rhetorical literary effect) alludes to a psychological burden akin to being cursed.

I have three albatrosses,  but no hole in one. I would trade all three for a hole in one. No one gives you a plaque for an albatross. Nobody asks you how many albatrosses you've had. (OK, some golf hardcore people might.) There's an excitement level for a hole in one that I have not experienced with my shots. God willing,  I'll get to find out if that's true.

I’m going with the Albatross. I mean you have to just hit three perfect shots in a row.

I’ve no dog in this fight as I’ve accomplished neither.

I tend to screw up my second shot when I pipe one down the fairway in a par 5.

Yeah! I was 18 and it was a short par 4, 325 yards, with a small dogleg to the right. I just cut over the trees and it went into the hole! Definitely the best of both worlds 😁
