Best Golf Hat 🤠

Picked up this hat last year to use while fly fishing and may have to re-purpose it and use on the golf course, too. Mine is a slightly different style and the one online appears different than what is in the store this year. Just providing a source for those interested.

I got this one from Amazon last month for working in the yard.  The brim is a little large for golf, but great doing yard work.

Amen.  People always say that they dont like bucket hats because they dont look cool.  You know what else isnt cool?  Skin cancer.  Im 40 years old now, so Im past the point in my life where I worry about what other people think is cool.

As someone who is a redhead, who used to pretty much live in tank tops and shorts (and has the sun damage marks on his shoulders to prove it) and who hasnt been very good to his skin sometimes over the past 40 years; Im probably more aware of it than most.

I've had numerous skin cancers removed (Squamous Cell Carcinoma - thankfully not Melanoma),
and gave up on baseball caps long ago. Over the last several years I have tried many hats, and have found a few that I really like:
The Shelta Seahawk it great. I also like the Mineola Hat Store bucket hat (Amazon). I have a Stetson bucket hat being delivered today.
I still use a 50 SPF sun screen (Ocean Potion) on the neck, face, ears, and arms, and sometimes wear the long sleeve SPF 30 fishing shirts. 
I will not give up golf. 

Welcome to getting older. I never knew how common skin cancers were and the type - from Basel to Melanoma. Between my wife and myself, after numerous procedures we're now authorities. I just shake my head when I see the people sitting around the pool getting 'tanned' if they only knew what was in their future!

I am constantly riding my young female coworkers about the way they let themselves cook in the sun. I call one girl “ ms. Melanoma”. Doesn’t scare her. Know what does? When I come in after seeing my dermatologist and I pull the dressings off. I grew up in Florida and ignored the warnings to wear sunscreen, hate, etc. and now I’m paying for it. I have at least 5 places my dermatologist needs to check but I cant get in to see her due to covid-19. She gets so excited when she sees me  

I don’t care if I look silly, the bucket hats are the way to go for me.

The old adage "pay me now or pay me later" applies. You can buy and use sunscreen and UV protected clothing now or you can help pay for your dermatologist's boat later.

Squamous is a real thing, it will kill you graveyard dead.
I never heard of it until my Dad was diagnosed with it. Wasn’t a good time.

My grandfather worked in the sun his whole life, and he got to make MONTHLY visits to the dermatologist as a result.

My mother was much more careful, but it still got her. She has now had two separate surgeries for a Squamous cell carcinoma that metastasized into her Parotid Gland (the largest of the Salivary glands) and a round of radiation. In the second surgery they had to take out the facial nerve, so she looks like she had a stoke. No control of right side of face.

Now I'm next, followed by my daughter. You better believe I'm wearing a good hat and using sunscreen, but that hasn't always been the case. I used to hate both, so I too will pay the price.

My daughter has watched all this and I hope she has learned something, but my co-workers have also seen all this happen and heard me talk about it and see the holes and scars on me and they still cook themselves.

Friends, I know you love this game as much as I do or you wouldn't be watching this forum and reading my drivel, but please please take care of yourselves. Hats on and sunscreen on.

When my Dad was being moved from Yale New Haven Hospice the Docs rounded you our daughters and me and told us we have the same fair skin problem and take precautions.
Our daughters listened good and they make sure the Gkids are well protected.

I’ve never understood the open weave hats like some in this thread, but I’m trying to protect my head, ears, neck from the sun when I wear a hat.

I used to be a Tilley advocate, and any wide brimmed hat is good for golf when it’s calm. But when the wind is up, a floppy brim is a problem. I bought a Shelta Hat for boating, now it’s the only hat I wear for boating or golf - because of the no-flop brim. Comes in several styles and colors. Cheaper than a Tilley. https://www.sheltahats.com

I am a fan of the Shelta Seahawk, which is my go to golf/outdoors hat. very comfortable and provides good protection. also have two smaller hats for short trips outside. this is the one!

I got one of these. I put a Ping patch on it to give it a little more cred. And I cut off the dork cord. I like it a lot.

I have a full head of hair, so my only wish is that it had even more venting.

The cord on Shelta hats is removable (see graphic post #45), so you can take it off or on as needed. No need to cut it off.

I had ordered a second Melin brand hat, and there was a mix-up. Within two days I had the correct hat, and then yesterday I received a box from them. 2 new hats, a small bag, and a hand written note from their Marketing Manager, Cameron, apologizing, and offering 2 more hats just for the mess-up.
They didn’t have to do that. Cameron also sent me a 40% coupon code to my email for future use in a purchase.
When folks “get it”, it’s worthy of sharing!
