Funny you mention this video. I watched Ian go through all of his tweaks yesterday, and I tried a few of them today during my routine (namely the left heel), and it did seem to help.

Took five swings with green club to finish session - 130, 137, 135, 134, 132.

That heel really creates a lot of power, these guys are awesome and are fantastic at explaining/demonstrating.

Great video. I am about to do my 2nd session for the week and will see if the heel action helps any.

After a full week of sessions I was a bit sore on Monday but hopefully I am starting to build up those muscles needed for these higher swing speeds and is beneficial in the long run.

Really enjoyed the video - A couple of things jumped to mind from it for me that might a few MPH's - I'm not 30 years old so we aren't seeing any 120 out of me but to get from hanging between 93-97 on the course to 97-102?  That would be huge.

My teacher is a vulnerable guy so he hasn't been teaching since COVID started, I've seriously thought about changing to one of the young pros that I've been playing with a lot lately anyway (not that I don't like my guy but I think I'm ready for something a bit more radical and that's not him.)

Stay tuned

Well....using the heel step gave me a little better 'dispersion' if you will in my speeds, I didn't have many sets with more than +/- 2 mph variation.

I also didn't have any lefty swings in the 80 mph range for the first time since I started (lowest was 92 in the red stick)!!

Still maxing out my green stick at 119/120, I feel like 125 is coming Friday....Max driver swing at the end was up to 110 mph, then I took a couple 'on course' swings that I would be comfortable with hitting a ball during a round (98, 101, 100).

Whelp, first major incident of adversity.  I don't know if I slept funny or it was from bad posture while playing video games with my son yesterday, but my back is having spasms like crazy right now.

I mean even turning causes it to flare up.  This sucks.

I'm not going to be able to do my Week 2 Day 2 session today.  I tried making a few swings and it just ain't happening.

Hopefully I'll be better tomorrow...

It sucks because today the weather is actually on the cool side and not humid at all. We have a massive rain system coming in and it could be raining for over a week.

Dude, back spasms are no fun at all 😭 Rest up and don't push it too soon.

I hit 108 last fall with my Swing Caddie. Because of COVID, I have not been able to get to a range this year yet. In my first round on March 1, I had three drives top 275 total on some pretty firm ground.

Regarding the green club, I recently have been sitting just above or below 130 MPH on the swing speed radar. So it was refreshing to see just a little bit more from the heel stomp.

I'm forever making tweaks to my swing, and I hope to have a better idea in a few weeks as to where I am these days.

I typically do not generate near the speed with my driver as say, my 7-iron. I mentioned my ball speeds last week a few posts ago, but my Mevo recorded an average of around 95 MPH club speed with my 7 iron.

Yeah.... I once played an entire 18 hole round with a punch swing because anything over a waist high follow through caused my back to seize. It made for an interesting round.

I’m hoping it’s nothing too bad. I’ve been massaging it with my lacrosse ball today. Hopefully I can catch up and get all three session this week still.

I remember sleeping on the floor as a kid at friends me houses with no issues. Couldn’t imagine that nowadays and I’m still in my 30’s.

Ok testers I have a question. I see you all talking about warm ups and flexibility. Do any of you think this regime will have a benefit for your overall fitness and strength? Can you feel parts of your body being worked that haven't worked this hard in years?

@Nunfa0 I can tell you that a smooth flexible swing will benefit you all day long over being tight and trying to "muscle it."  I thought about the regimen before as well and decided to try to see how it felt ton two different days with and without the pre-work.  The first thing that I noticed was how "bad" my flexibility is (everything went down hill after back surgery and I have never gotten back to where I was before that; follow up with shoulder surgery a couple of years ago and man have things really changed).  Personally, I found that swinging after the warm up is much like a run after the first mile or so or a swim after going through a few steady laps; MUCH more smoother and flowing.  ChasingScratch talks about the biomechanics and technical, kinesthetic aspects of this from his education and professional background and everything he says is sounds based on my experiences and education.  Take it for what it is worth, but if you have flexibility issues, like I do, you might consider a) making sure you are warmed up a bit before you do the routine, b) doing the routine before the swings.  Even if you don't experience these issues regularly now, working out after a warm up will help stave these issues off later in life.

Best of luck to you.

If it means anything my back issues started in my 30’s and if anything have gotten better, not worse, in my 60’s. And I have a disabled child who weighs 125 and requires lifting and shipping several times daily so that is a potential back stresser.

Just a reminder of all the things that you know already - stretch before and after, proper posture and perhaps you are a person who needs additional warm up prior to starting SuperSpeed.

While they offer a one size fits all process they are off the charts good with customer service. I’m sure they’d have recommendations if you reached out. I had knee issues when we started the kneeling swings. They recommended protein (in my case a handful of mixed nuts) pre protocol and a variety of things post - I went Greek Yogurt and cherries - it really helped.

Good luck and hang in there.

Not seeing the gains this week that I saw last week.  Hope I am not plateauing already.

Based on the SuperSpeed chart, you should expect a plateau. Your before speed with your driver should get closer and closer to your after speed.

That was almost exactly what happened to me. I got out of the car and on the first swing I felt it. Should’ve stopped, but I was like, “I already paid, drove 30mins, got up early, let’s just see how it goes.”

Hindsight is 20/20 for a reason...

Based on the SuperSpeed chart, you should expect a plateau. Your before speed with your driver should get closer and closer to your after speed.

Yeah, from what I interpreted and understood, the first week is where we see the 5% jump. After than, it is simply building to where that is repeatable for the next 5 weeks. Next big jump doesn’t come until later in protocol 2.

Just got done doing some yard work (push mower, edging, fertilizing).

Bad news: back is still very tight

Good news: it’s not as bad as yesterday

I might end up being a week behind after this lets up.

Great quote, I'm going to have to use that haha. What's funny is just as I said that today's workout went better. I am going to throw the random question out there of has anyone from the old group found a way to handle the physical fatigue? More to that point does anyone do cardio exercising in their daily life which makes the swings easier?

For cardio I was doing the SS warm up followed by the Level 2 swing drill, except I was doing 10 swings each side with each club. I was doing this 3 times a week after my regular workout while the gym was still opened. The first time I tried this my heart rate hit 98% of my theoretical maximum for my age. I was able to routinely get my HR in the +90 % range thereafter. That’s not a bad cardio workout when you consider the time it takes to make 190 swings. For reference when doing HIIT I will take my HR to 110% for a brief spurt, but haven’t done that since the gym closed.

I have to hear you're having tightness in your back. Hopefully it'll let up soon, but the most important thing is to take care of yourself and get better.

For those of you discussing the heel stomp, just wait until the 4th protocol. It'll be there waiting for you. I went into a maintenance mode right after starting that protocol then got lazy and put SuperSpeed to the side. I couldn't get much out of it, but after the TXG video I think I might have not properly timed it.

Week 2, Session 2 complete.

Highlights: Finally broke through the 110 barrier with the driver and topped out at 114 both Tuesday and today. Also hit 124 with the green stick (after being stuck on 120 since the first session) and LH swings are getting more speed. I'm sure they still look like garbage, but I registered a 110 left handed with the green stick.

I'm sure it's a combination of the warm-up and the protocol, but until this session, I felt tightness in my back when i got done. Tonight, my back feels great.

So I'm a little concerned with what I've been seeing on the course and now my range session today.

A slice.

I haven't sliced the ball in 7 years and since starting Super Speed I am starting to see one creep into my game. Not sure if it's the speed training throwing off my sequencing or what. Going to have to keep an eye on it.

It's definitely something you have to keep in check. Both times I started SuperSpeed I developed a tendency to go left, either by a pull or a hook. I think you're right about sequencing, but you should be able to diagnose and fix whatever is causing the slice.

Probably comes down to your natural athletic motion and what you feel like you need to do to create speed. Also, bc there is no face on the swing speed sticks, and no weight around the hosel axis to cause rotation, it’s easy to leave the hands out of it and not use them properly in a square manner. I hit high ballooning balls and slices for the first time in years also. It fixes itself as you get more proficient at swinging faster because your sequencing improves. But, I recommend doing orange whip or 50% speed drills in conjunction with super speed to keep your timing and face control in sync. I am now doing orange whip to warm up, then the stretching, then the super speed protocol, followed by a cool down with the orange whip. And on off days that I don’t play golf, I make slow motion swings in the backyard trying to hit an 8 iron 25 yards with a full swing. It gives me a nice blend of speed, tempo, and face control.
