Great post!

Speaking of injuries, has anyone had some persistent lower back pain start while using the Super Speed sticks?

I had a lower back injury two weeks into the training.  It set me back a few weeks.  To be fair, and I documented this throughout the forum, but I was doing a lot all at once:  rowing daily, weight lifting daily, SuperSpeed, and lowered calories for fat loss..... so it was mainly just overuse for me.

FWIW, I read an article about managing lower back pain today, and it stressed activity. Based on that I did my session of protocol 1. My speeds were down a bit from early this week, but magically my back feels much better!

Since I drove 9.5 hours yesterday, it took me a while to warm up today. I started a little on the slow side, but finished well. After driver swings were 116, 116, 119, 119, 117. I really felt like I was going to crack the 120 barrier, but at least i was fairly consistent.

Interesting article!  I've been very fortunate in that I've never had any issues with lower back pain, just really some occasion discomfort from sitting too long in a bad chair, that kind of thing.  I've always found that some exercise involving my lower back helps when that happens, so I think my experience matches up with the article.  I know a couple of guys that swear by deadlifts for lower back pain, as long as your form is correct.

Have you gotten on a launch monitor to see if your driver spin has increased drastically? Could be missing out on lots of distance if your shaft/head combo isn’t low spin enough at those speeds.

Had a decent night. Seems like I am settling in a bit. Not getting those super high numbers, but do feel a bit stiff. Been a long week and not surprised at the numbers being where they are. Another hot day here so wore two gloves which helped. Did a full video which I'll edit and post in the next couple days when I have a decent internet connection!

The kids wanted to see how fast they could swing. So naturally I grabbed one of their clubs and tried to see how fast I could swing it

Much better. I still get some tightness every now and then, but it’s not like it was when I let really couldn’t move without it seizing up. Still need stretching and rehabilitation exercises to keep it linger and strong.

I have not. My biggest concern about my driver since the Bridgestone test a couple years ago has been the high launch and high spin. I've only had it on a LM once a while back. We didn't get fit for those, just a few no-upcharge shafts to pick from. I'm just guessing, but I feel like launch is even higher now, so it's definitely something I need to sort out as time goes on.

Rest at first until I could actually move a bit. I saw a chiropractor a day or so after the initial injury. Then it was light weight rehab exercises for a few weeks. I did a lot of leg raises to strengthen glute and lower back where it was hurt.

I'm actually the opposite. For the last five-ish years my lower back has been a bit of a mess. I believe the combination of the dynamic warmup and protocols have very beneficial for my particular issue. Obviously your mileage may vary.

Funny you say that. After reading that article, I began exercising my back. I did my Super Speed protocol 1 sessions Saturday and today. Both times it immediately loosened my back and the pain went away. Saturday my speeds were slow, but today I reached a couple of new highs. Of course my highs- mid 90s are slower than most of the testers starting point 🙂

Since @ChasingScratch posted the @SuperSpeed Golf chart, I've been doing some thinking....

Perhaps SuperSpeed can chime in (and anyone else who may have an idea, of course).

My recollection was the second jump typically happened late in the second protocol. Since that was clearly wrong and it's more like late third/early fourth protocol (I'll be starting level 3 next week), what is going on with me? Is it possible that my swing was so out of whack mechanically that I'm still experiencing the first jump and it's just taking me longer to sort out the mechanical components required to go faster? What I had interpreted as the plateau seemed more like the regression that @revkev mentioned, so I had assumed the second jump was here. Here is an up-to-date chart for my driver speeds since the beginning. Since there have been some peaks and valleys, this data is a 5-session moving average to try to smooth out some of the noise. For the last 3-5 weeks, there has been a pretty steady climb. Is it possible I am at the second jump a little early? I suppose a third alternative is that things have finally settled down some so this is really just the first plateau?

image.png.afd8f0ead672fb6f52aa5b4a15c6d065.png

Here is the raw data, before averaging.

image.png.ba3495e59c2a222d21c4fd28cc9e51fd.png

@MaxEntropy agree with what @ChasingScratch said here about this. The peaks and plateaus chart we put together is the average we see after logging thousands of golfers over a 7 year period. That is also the same with the average speed percentage increases we see. However there are always outliers. It’s great that you’re seeing another nice jump happing now.

Did you test yourself yet on the Advanced Speed Drills?

I had taken some time off from the Superspeed program because I had a non-functional driver swing (too many snap hooks) that was not the fault of the program whatsoever. Was more me learning how to properly hit driver.

I'm ready to start the program again now that I learned to hit a driver properly. Currently, I am maxing out at about 260 yards total distance off the tee, as measured by Shotscope. That's definitely not my average, my average good driver shot is more in the 230 to 240 range. My goal is to get up to the 250 to 260 average range (total distance) without feeling like I am swinging out of my shoes.

Late getting posted on this but quick update on progress.  Lefty golfer, slow swing group  yellow, green blue sticks,

Finding that I have certainly hit a speed plateau, yellow being the lightest I'm hitting 102/103 mph avg , hit 105 mph once weeks ago and have not topped that since, green, I have hit 100mph on the step swing and close on the "normal" but again mostly a flatline the last few weeks.  Blue I have seen some progress with as my "heavy weight"  but not seeing any big step changes like prior to this stage but still happy with what I am seeing on the monitor, just need to find the fairway more on the course.

Wrapped up stage 2 and now moving on to the next stage.

WHERE AM I

Improved Distance :  absolutely check mark yes

Improved Speed : absolutely check mark yes

Accuracy --   ahh.. not so much but I was not that great before with a slower swing speed but I have had moments of sheer brilliance but the last couple rounds.. not so much. But the operator of the club is likely as much to blame as anything.

Confidence:  when its on its on.. as i have said in past posts the difference in scoring I have seen this summer being able to go driver /7 iron/  instead of driver/3/5 wood/ has made golf more enjoyable. I still need a lot of work on my game and driver confidence still wanes but its getting better. Not being the shortest off the tee box builds confidence. TXG did a video regarding swing speed where the term removing the governor was used and that is something this program has helped me try and do.

Cant thank Superspeed Golf and My Golf Spy enough for this great opportunity, it has been a significant game changer for me as a slower swing golfer.

Formal Stage 2 wrap up coming soon.,

If I remember correctly, you started around 80 mph, and now you can get the sticks to 102/103 on average? That's amazing! Congratulations. Maybe SuperSpeed sticks work, but you put in the effort and gained 25 mph. I admire your commitment. Guys like you and Tony really motivate. Thank you.

Since @SuperSpeed Golf mentioned the Advanced Speed Protocol tests, I did them at the range before league tonight. For those that aren't aware of them, the first is a turf tear test to see if you are using the ground effectively (do you damage the turf if you stand in the same spot for 5-10 swings) - I passed. The second is measuring the speed of a half swing (left arm only goes back to parallel). If it is not within 7% of full swing, they have a protocol to improve turn/rotation - I failed with about a 10% difference. The final one is a lag test where you measure wrist angles at the top and just after starting the downswing - with proper lag, the angle between forearm and shaft should get a little smaller when looking at those two points in the swing - mine was basically the same. Question for @SuperSpeed Golf: is it safe assume I should substitute the second advanced protocol until the half swing gets faster then start the third? I'm due to start Level 3 tomorrow, so it might be a good time to mix in some different training.

On the range, I had quite a few swings in the 114-116 mph range with a ball present, so the speed is definitely there, I just have to work on repeatable center contact and figuring out where the ball is going.

This happened tonight:

Screenshot_20200818-194711.jpg.040ce665c841d7f013e9e5bce3126796.jpg

I had pulled the ball slightly on the first driver hole, so I aimed at the cluster of trees. Of course I hit it dead straight and it actually carried the trees. I've never been past those trees before.

Sorry for the long post....

Nice drive @MaxEntropy!! Your speed is uh, fast!

what are you seeing through the bag?  1 less, 2 less into greens?

On the few occasions I've made really solid contact, it's been about a 3 club difference. On the hole above, the shortest club I can recall hitting into that green was an 8. It was also a back pin tonight, too.

On the few occasions I've made really solid contact, it's been about a 3 club difference. On the hole above, the shortest club I can recall hitting into that green was an 8. It was also a back pin tonight, too.

3 less... dang. That is awesome.

That would change my whole approach to the game having 3 less into greens.  Oh what fun that would be.

Haven’t started this program yet, but today I was playing and a few times I was hitting PW where I’d normally hit an 8... can’t wait to add even more speed.
