Long time lurker, first time poster..

After reading through great results 'spies' have been sharing on this thread, I decided to dust off the Super Speed Training sticks which had been sitting in the basement since their purchase almost 2 years ago.  I'm excited to report that I saw positive results after the first week.  Here are the average numbers from my SkyTrak launch monitor comparing driver swings before I began the protocol and after 1 week of level 1 protocol.

The 20 drives for "After week 1" stats were done about 24 hours after completion of week 1 (3 sessions).  Note the gain of 7 mph in ball speed.  I didn't bother with the club speed data since SkyTrak doesn't measure that directly.  I think ultimately ball speed is what matters.  Since the immediate gains are supposed to only last 30 minutes or so, I was very surprised to see the gains after 24+ hours.   This will certainly motivate me to stick it through this time around.   2 years ago, I did not have a launch monitor to confirm any gains and that was not good for motivation.   I won't bother measuring the club head speed with PRGR or other swing speed monitors during training.  I plan to monitoring ball speed on weekly basis to monitor my progress.  Does anyone believe that measuring head speed for each training swing is important?  Will having that immediate feedback during training itself be critical?

On another note, the training also impacted other metrics namely, backspin, side spin, and side angle.    Average backspin went up by ~700 which is quite a bit.   Average ball shape changed from a push draw to high straight fades.   I think as many of you have noted, refitting clubs may be necessary at some point.  Has anyone else seen such drastic uptick in back spin?

Sonny

Nice work. Some of that gain could simply being intentionally swinging faster at a ball. Keep it up. Backspin will go up with speed. Hence why players go stiffer in shafts. Could also be when you swing faster your contact suffers so far. Give it time. 🙂

Great results, I'll be following your progress. Which LM are you using to measure spin? The PRGR  LM I use basically only measures SS and Ball Speed.

I'm using SkyTrak.  I'm not actually measuring swing speed with the speed sticks.  I'm doing the protocol w/o that instant feedback.  I only tracking Ball speed before and after the training with my SkyTrak hitting drives.

Wow, that is impressive Sonny.  Posts like these keep me thinking about trying it myself... but the fear of messing up my troubled, but under control, left shoulder rules the day 😕.

Can that shoulder not be rehabbed/strengthened so that you can eventually give the training a try?

Possibly, but it has been feeling so good of late (as is no pain from golf) that I'm hesitant to press my luck.

Well if you’re thinking about it, a TPI mobility assessment might be a good place to start.  Obviously I don’t know your issue, but some simple low-weight/resistance band work can often do wonders to strengthen and rehabilitate the rotator cuff, which is often at the heart of a cranky shoulder.

Okay I got back into it in earnest this week. I kept my spread sheet from when I was a tester and looked back no at where I was weeks end level 1 now to there.

My top speed with all sticks dominant was well past where I was at the end of level one three years ago and right around the level that I was at the middle of level 2 - week 17 or so.

I did get to level 2 last spring before breaking for the summer - I was faster at that point than I am right now but not by a lot.

Really good, for me, dry driver average of 108. My real drives continue to be in the mid 90’s - I was in the mid 80’s three years ago - 105 in my prime - but the equipment then was nothing like it is now including even the ability to accurately measure SS.

I intend to work the new program until it gets too hot - June or so.

Worked through the level 3 program and got to the rest period and saw my speed drop to where I had to fight to see over 110mph on Trackman. This could be because Level 5 protocols were so intense that after each training session speed was up but going from that to 1 day a week I saw way to much regression. I purchased the Counter-Weight stick to see if this would help counteract that regression and will update my progress accordingly.

Update:  no real speed training with the SS Sticks.  I have been blasting drivers on the range from time to time as hard as possible.

I have been working in my garage on some iron speed training at times as well.  I saw Rory and Tony Finau hit 139mph ball speed with their 7 irons today.  That’s moving it and inspired me a bit!  Here’s a short video of where I’m at:

Thanks for sharing that video! The ball coming off the face in your garage just sounds violent! On a side note, those ferrules with that grip is sweet.

Been doing the counterweight protocols for the past 5 weeks and have been seeing some speed back on Trackman.  Since these protocols are only one day a week I was doing them alongside the level 3 maintenance protocols 1 day a week as well. I think more of the speed gain is for me just needing to be doing speed training at least twice a week.

Overall I really like the protocols for the counterweight day much better than the standard 3 stick protocols. The simplicity of one stick is nice and Narrow stance swings have been one of my favorites as it has helped me with weight transfer without moving off the ball.

Next week I start level 2 so I will post an update then.

New ball speed records for me tonight.  Previous had been 181mph a few times.

I just got back from vacation with the family, unloaded the car and decided to hit some.  I started out in the high 170s and just had a goal of hitting 180mph a few times just to check in and make sure I’m not losing speed.  Then I got into the competitive side of myself. I started hitting 182, 183, and then hit a new record of 185mph!  I wanted to see how far I could push it.  Then this happened:

Once I hit 188mph I kept hitting 185+ over and over.  It’s crazy what you are capable of once you see it happen once time!  I want to hit 190mph before the summer is over!

Little update on the counterweight protocols. I am in week 12 of training which puts me in level 3 of the training protocols. My speed has gone from starting at 108.9 in week 1 to starting week 12 at 112.9mph I am starting to level out now and don't see to much more speed gained as I finish up level 3 protocols. However, I am getting much more comfortable at this speed again and contact has improved with the speed.

I am comfortably seeing ball speeds above 165mph and club head speeds over 115mph several times a session. I even broke a personal best with 116.4mph club head speed and 170.8mph ball speed.  The end game is be averaging 115mph club and 170mph ball speed by the end of the year but we shall see.

I will say being able to increase speed with only one club has been great and a lot less time consuming which I appreciate as well.

24 MONTH UPDATE: After getting almost entirely through protocol 3 in 2020, I went into a self-defined "maintenance mode" last year where I was working on protocol 3 and did it 3-4 times per month. This year, I have only done it a couple times (but not since June) and have enough Arccos data to confirm I need to get back on it, certainly in the spring if not right now. I would really love it if I had some place indoors with the headroom to swing through the winter. On occasion I'll catch a drive that will sneak out to 280-ish, but last year those "good outliers" where closer to the 300 range. The comparison might not be entirely fair - it's been a weird ball-striking year for me, struggling to find the center of the face for too long, but it has been better the last few weeks.

Feeling the same way have really gotten off track this year, with limited childcare in our area right now kids bopping around the house limits the time, but hoping to start back up in October once they are all in care. I also can't do it inside, but I have a nice rubber mat and if I keep up on the driveway I can usually get it in all winter even if it is a bit cold some days. Good luck with getting back out there.

How fast do you swing the different sticks ? I have tried them before once or twice, because my mate have been using them, and he let me have a go at them from time to time,

This time around though, ive borrowed them from him, since he is done with it. He has gained some speed, and is happy

Ive done sunday, tuesday and thursday this week, and now taking the rest of the week off, till sunday, then ill start again. Im using the prgr and my pre driver speed is around 116-117 on prgr . Now today i got it up to 125 with the driver after the speed sticks.

Massive jump and i dont think it was a bad reading, because i got post speed stick driver to the 125 mark a few times. But most at around 122 But im only swinging the green 132 or so. Had one up to 135 today and the blue is around 128-129 and red 120-122 when i did it today

Does this seem right to you ? And my left side is VERY VERY weak. Im pretty sure i look like a handicap 74, because my coordination with my left side is really really bad. Will the left side get better ? I feel pretty stupid doing the left side 😄

And i tried it out on the course today aswell. Hit 2 of the longest drives for the year . Almost as long as when its dry and you get way more roll,, so the gains, even for just 1 week is pretty big ! I do think something is off though, since the stick speeds are pretty slow compared to the driver speeds im getting ?

Sorry for the bad english. Hopefully people can understand what i mean

Been doing the new level 3 protocols for a year now and my speed has gone up from averaging 108mph to averaging 117mph. I've also increased my average ball speed from low 160's to mid 170's. This is also with a swing I would take to the course and if I really pushed it I can get to 120mph however I have no control.

Goals for the year are to be averaging about 175mph ball speed with my peak ball speed being 180mph by fall.

Has anyone else had a block where seemingly overnight the speed is gone despite the swing not changing? This happened to me and I'm curious as to if anyone else experienced this and how they went about protocols to get back to where they were.

I certainly hit a wall and really struggled to gain any for a period of time. I just kept plugging through though and eventually it came back and I was able to gain a little more. There is an eb and flow to super speed and their protocols and I remember many really struggling with when they weren't seeing progress.

I do also know they changed their protocols a bit, but haven't looked at it recently so I am sure that would help as well.

I've been following the newest protocols but I'm taking a month off from them to work on my swing and gain some confidence back after i had a lesson two weeks ago. The plan is to ingrain the good habits while maintaining the current speed and then work back up once comfortable.

When I went through this, there were times of frustration and losing speed - hitting a wall of sorts. That seemed to happen for me a week or so before a jump. It was a bit disheartening when it happened.
