Thanks, so has anybody figured out how to do that thing where the ball goes straight?

Straight is over rated. Curves are more fun....

I played my first round of 2010 yesterday. I shot a 123. I believe this thread will be my new home.

Welcome my purple friend.

Don't worry about straight, just play the curve. Even if the curve changes with every shot...

Hitting the fairway is WAY overrated... half the time I land in the rough, the ball is propped up and I can get under it better... It's pretty bad that I can hit out of the rough better than the fairway most of the time because I can get under the ball cleaner...

That's interesting logic but something is very wrong if you like hitting from the rough more than a clean lie in the fairway.

OK so I shot +12 for 9 today. Not proud of that, but it was one of those rounds for me where I just couldn't get my timing down and had very limited touch.

My buddy and I ditched the families, both at home, and online <_ and went to play.>

Course was a bit full and we got paired up with a single in a cart with his wife, and then a late single walking. we were both walking.

First tee the guy in the cart says do you guys play from the blues or the whites. I say the whites (I know my tees) and he says OK, you guys tee off first then.

Dude has i10's in the bag so I figure he is a stick.

No warmup outside of little stretching, hook drive a bit into the trees. buddy hits 3w into the fairway. Cart dude fires huge hook into other fairway.

Other dude just stands there after we had hit, and stands there some more, finally by buddy tells him he is up so he tees the ball as high as it can go and drives it straight up.

90' high and 10' forward. reloads and drives to the front of the fairway.

first and foremost, I do not care if someone sucks, or has good gear and sucks, because I do both of those. But both of these guys were so slow and just spacy that it killed me. I know that my game was lost early on as I got more and more angry and the pace of play and the antics of these guys. The group in front of us pulled away, as the group behind caught up. On the seventh hole my buddy and I both hit good drives then waited 52 seconds for the next guy to pull his club from the bag, yes I counted, then they both got caught in the OH no you go first, no you I insist...... AARRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

No ready golf, dude in the cart would rarely leave it to walk, constantly hitting reverse with the great noise to back up. why does the cart make this noise btw

One of the dudes basically refused to mark his ball too when two of us were still off and his ball was between us and the cup. ugh

had to take some medicine before posting...

This is the first pairing ever like this for me. lousy players with no golf etiquette, playing as singles. historically, the singles I get paired with are the opposite.

I tried the positive thinking of "well you are playing golf and not on the keyboard" but the waiting so they could line up the 80 yard balloon tee shot just make me see red.

sorry to just vent, but this seemed like the place to do it...

also, this is a muni course that has lots of beginner level players, so I know that I should expect it, I suppose.

Another thing, they have changed the mow pattern to pinch the fairways by at least 10 yards on each side. Thanks for making the beginner course harder. big +1 to you greens keepers.

I've had experiences like that. All you can is to try and not let their antics effect your own game. But I know that is easier said than done.

I've always thought courses should offer some kind of inexpensive on-course etiquette training for beginning golfers. It would improve pace of play on the course and would encourage proper maintenance of the course, which would go a long way towards helping the superintendent and his staff. But, sadly, I've not seen this at the clubs that I frequent.

it took all I had to not just keep going "well do you think you could hit the ball now?"

Putting was a total wash today because these guys just were slow.

On the second par three. Guy one has chipped through the green again, so guy two pulls the flag to putt since he is away and the other guy has to walk around to get to the new ball position.

he putts, misses, and taps in. Other guy still not there and ready. IN the meantime I have lined up my putt and am over the ball (par putt). As I am putting, guy 1 puts the flag back in the cup and I miss a bit left.

nice that he put it back for the other schlub, but did he really not realize that I was putting? GD Clown!

Things would also be helped by having marshalls/rangers out on the course, but I find that the courses that need them don't have them and vice versa.

No marshals and no swing lube in the cooler pocket, a fatal oversight on my part today...

Brutal. Swing lube could have helped that situation out in a number of ways. I'm thinking mainly about inhibition reduction.

Wife had snagged the last $20 out of the wallet too, so cart girl would not have been successful even if she had showed up..
