Yes this was my point exactly - that’s not your fault BTW. Over the last two weeks everyone has gone to the pool noodles imbedded enough so that you can hole out. The instruction from the Florida Golf Association is that if the ball strikes the noodle and comes out and you think it would have been holed, you should count it as holed. (Paraphrase)

I think we’re good on the greens now, but from distance, guys are counting anything approaching the hole as eagle. I was uncomfortable counting the one I had that we could all see hit the noodle (week 1) but it was in a money game and won the hole.

I'm fine it really. At the start of the season when my ball would hit the green I would add 2 strokes and move to the next hole. Now I at least try to putt it because who knows, I may just, "hole it" with 1 putt.

IMO it's a matter of being honest with yourself (something far too many golfers just aren't good at). It also may depend on conditions. I played a course 2 weeks ago that removed all flagsticks from the course and was using some sort of metal spike looking contraption in the cups. I noticed on some holes that the "bottom" of the cup was lower below the surface than some other holes (we're talking as much as 1/2" minimum). In fact I think it was the first or second hole that I had basically a tap-in that went in and bounced out the other side because bottom was raised so high.

Amen.  I feel like with all the rain we've gotten in Ohio recently, what I gain in strokes from not having to putt out I probably lose in how little roll your ball gets.  When I played on Friday the course was so soggy that your ball would stop within a few feet of where it landed, even with the driver.  Id be that I was losing probably 20 yards of roll off the tee.

  Integrity of the golfer (as always) comes into play when determining what score to write down and what score to actually post when there is a disagreement within the group as to whether the ball was holed or not.

Makes me think of the Michelob Ultra commercial: “That’s good,” is the tag line, and the distance from the hole when it’s said gets progressively further as the commercial goes on!

This is included in the current Handicap Rules.  Previously, the rules simply said to post your most likely score if you didn't finish a hole, but really didn't tell you how to figure it out.  In the new WHS Rules, as issued by the USGA, they've provided this guidance as to how you should calculate Most Likely Score.  Notice that its guidance, not an exact definition.  The USGA added some information about how to deal with things like raised cups when posting for handicap, again going back to the concept of Most Likely Score.

For those of us who don't live in the USGA areas, places where match play and fourball scores aren't acceptable for handicap posting, this is a foreign concept, there's no need for Most Likely Score when posting only stroke play scores.

I see something about over 20 yards, nothing that mentions 20 FEET.  Did you maybe misread this?

Has your club indicated why they are choosing to disregard the USGA recommendation?  Is this possibly a decision made by the regional Association for all of its member clubs?  I'm not sure there's a real right or wrong here, but I'm curious.
At my club, we're using pool noodles maybe an inch below the green surface.  In my opinion, its really rare that these will "reject" a putt that otherwise would be holed, so to me its perfectly appropriate to post the scores.  If you can be close enough to be reasonably certain that a putt was rejected by the noodle, by all means count it as made.  If I'm an 8-iron away, I'm not sure I can see well enough to be certain that it wasn't simply rejected by the pin, or was moving too fast to be holed, but that's just me
Its a difficult time, even for those of us who are allowed to play golf.  I'm really looking forward to the days when we can resume tournament play as a step towards normalcy, and allowing (requiring) scores to be posted for handicap is a reasonable step to making those competitions fair when they can begin.

I talked to our head pro yesterday and the reason we are not posting is that not all clubs in the section are open for play at this point. Public golf just opened last week in NY and not all clubs are back online yet. I believe that our section also covers parts of CT and NJ where clubs just opened last weekend with limited play. Other issue he mentioned was with walking only about half our members can’t or won’t play until we can utilize carts.

Have no idea !

Was going through  couple of surgery early part of last year, and then this COVID-19 Stay At Home Order...... the only few times I had got to the driving range at the beginning of this year showed the rusty golf game I had left.    Been m more than a year since I got on the golf courses.

Probably a 35 index ( maximum allowed ).  Honestly, I have no idea.   I'm sure the guys I golfed with wanted their dollars back, eagerly !

I kept a HC on a free site for the last few years. I never had anyone validate my scores... I just entered them in and it spit out my HC. For the last 4 years I've hovered around a 9.6 most of the time, sometimes a high 8.  I've dropped the free site and recording scores because of the current situation.... and I really just don't care about HC anymore. If I had to guess... and I'm honest with myself, the way I'm playing right now ... I'm probably around 11-12 HC.  I'm not playing nearly as much as I would like and I'm struggling when I do.

Currently holding down a 13.2 under these circumstances. Some courses have noodles. One has taken the pins out completely and left the hole with the cup raised.
Difficult for exact distance but not a big issue since most of us aren't that accurate.

We actually had this conversation with a mini tour guy on my friends front porch last weekend over martinis and cigars. We figure that the raised pool noodle was worth 2 to 3 strokes a round. He shot back to back 63’s (tied the course record) with the raised pool noodles.

There are now regular cups at that course and you push on a lever with your putter to pop the all out of the hole.

Tour Exotics 3 wood is in the bag because we are allowed 14 clubs.  It's a great club for pulling balls out of the water or from bushes - you never want to put your hand into anything in Florida unless you are absolutely certain that it's safe.  There are rare wind conditions when I might hit it off the tee on a few holes that I play.
