I have a TS-3 7 iron on its way.  Will visually compare to the STi2 7 iron I have and the 7 iron from my TE C721 set.

When I get a chance, I'll take the three to a local sim and compare some numbers.

I'm thinking of ordering a 6-iron in the TS3, which is the same loft (essentially) as my current GI 7-iron.  Very curious to see if the design of the forged cavity back is a noticeable improvement (it feels like it HAS to be, but...), and to see what kind of difference in numbers (if any, given the near-identical lofts) I'd be getting.

Luckily, I have a place with indoor tracking opening this month, so I'll be able to have a decent sense of spin/carry numbers.  I'm VERY intrigued by this iron...I just can't stop staring at it on my screens.  It's becoming an issue 😉

I just placed an order a TS3 7i to compare with my TS1 gamers and the PTM & TE I have laying around. Also picked up a KE4 Max 4i to try and get a little more punch to blend the TS1 to KE4 FDI 2i.

I'm looking forward to seeing how each club compares just hope the 8in of snow we just got melts before the clubs arrive.

These are just some quick visuals of the relative size of the TS3.

If anyone has a specific picture angle they would like to see, let me know.

I'll take some measurements with a digital caliper and post them.

Small update:  I was able to sneak outside to hit a few balls with the STi2 and TS3 on Sunday:

Air Temp: 43 degrees ( feels like 37 )  Yeah, cold!

balls were sitting in the shed so they were about 35 degrees.  (Felt like rocks! lol )

First few warmup swings felt like I was hitting stones.  After about 10 swings, I hit two shots with each.

STi2, (low stinger that went about 100 yards, 2nd shot much more flush and traveled about 138 )

TS2, (low edge and went about 110 yards, 2nd shot struck perfectly and felt that way.  traveled about 148 )

On both shots the TS3 felt significantly better. ( Both clubs have the same shaft, Rogue R65 )

Hopefully I can get in a sim later this week and give all three a whirl.

Thanks for the pictures I play PTM’s and love them it will be interesting to see what you think.

When I tested them originally vs TS1 &TE I was least impressed with PTM. I think I have better dispersion and better feel from the TE & TS1. I went with TS1 just due to the lofts and height was too much for the TEs.

Here goes:

Comparing the Maltby offering of 7irons I have on hand TS1, TS3, PTM, and TE(6i). I also put the MP-33(6i) in as Lob Wedge for reference. View the data below for full details from my R10 with RCT balls. (obviously, only 6 shots rotating club every 3 shots, also similar but not the same shafts)

Feel:

Honestly the best feeling of the bunch was TS3 & TE they were very close but both felt solid and soft. Multiple of each I barely felt the ball. 3rd place would go to the TS1 and PTM in 4th not sure why just slightly clickier to me. Comparing all to the MP33 was hard because well I could not find the middle today. from memory I would call the MP33 smoother when I find the center. I am a steep player so I usually need a little more sole which i think the TS3 would provide but I'm hitting off a mat so that is something ill have to test on grass.

Aesthetics:

This is personal preference obviously but I do really enjoy Maltby's recent styling. From overall winner is probably the TS1s but I'm a bit biased playing them for the last 2 years. They have the best blend of thin top line, offset, and minimal back graphics. I would put TS3 in second and TE & PTM wash at 3rd they each have their own benefits, I like the TE at address and PTM from behind.

Performance:

All of them performed well. Going by Numbers below I think TS3 performed the best with the Distance, Speed, Spin, and Apex I'm currently looking for. I cut across the ball and generate a lot of spin. the TE had the best dispersion but was high spinning and lower distance for a 6i. The PTM had great dispersion too but again the apex and spin let it down in my book.

Overall:

I feel like these are all good clubs I think the TS3 is a blend of the TE & PTM. The sole and shaping of the TE with the aesthetics and lofts of the PTM. I may need to consider transitioning over to TS3s or wait until the TS4s are out and find a beautiful combo set.

Great stuff - thank you for sharing! Curious to me that the TS3's average spin was considerably lower than all the others - any ideas as to why?  I would expect, with the loft being pretty close to all the others, that it would've spun closer to the TE than it did (especially considering the TS1 is hollow-bodied I thought that would be the lowest-spinning of the bunch).  Awesome to hear it's as soft as the TE (or close, anyway).  I'm VERY excited to get a few in-hand to test against my current gamers (I'm not sure it will be fair loft-wise, so I'm ordering a 6/9 to test against my current 7/9).

If anybody who has a full set of the TS3's would be able to post a comparison of the sole of the GW, PW, and maybe a 6 or 7 iron, that would be great! My 1 possible hangup is that they might be too wide for my liking

Not sure if it's the "what's available" effect but I'm really thinking about the TS3s in my bag.

Got the 6 and 9 yesterday afternoon, built them up last night/tonight with Score shafts and gripped tonight and should be ready for tomorrow's round.

Very excited to see how they feel, especially compared to my GI irons. This will be my first foray into the world of forged clubs.

A few shots from tonight. I'll post a few in comparison to my current clubs tomorrow, in case anyone's curious. I know I was surprised at how inviting they look at address, despite the considerably narrower sole. They're not small by any means. I think I love them. 😄

Alright, (relatively, for me?) quick update with no pictures.

Took the new clubs to the course today. First really beautiful (55°+) in a while here, so it was packed. No tee times for a single. I put my name on the wait-list, and grabbed a large bucket. "only 7-iron through wedges - construction down range" I was told.

Considering this new 6-iron is lofted the same as my current 7-iron, I fibbed a little and agreed.

Warmed up, felt pretty good considering I'd not swung a club all week. Hit my current 9 (38°) usually in the 150 range, so hit a few of those. Pulled out the TS-3 (40°). Looks-wise, not a huge difference. Top-lines are actually pretty similar to my eye. First strike was toed, flew dead-straight over the 135 target-flag. Huh. When I say toed, btw, I mean half the dimples were not on the grooves.

Swung it again. Toe again, but this time all on the grooves. Felt really good. Kind of thought I middled it. Right over the flag, again.

Although I was flying it over 135, I had a hunch it wasn't as close to 150 as my normal 9 (not a shock considering 2° difference). That's okay by me, though, as it felt awesome and the look at address is beautiful. And toe strikes really seemed to be minimally punished.

Took out my 7-iron (28.5°). Stock distance with this is usually a comfortable 175 (sometimes creeping to 180). Hit it great, right at a target that was 180 away. Landed just shy. Hit a few more to get a groove.

Pulled the TS-3 6-iron (28°). This one FEELS svelte in comparison to mine. No chunk-butt (Trademark) at address. First swing was pured. Like, dead at the pin, landed short but ran up a bit. Felt so so good. I hit it again.

And again. And again.

It's just beautifully made.

My name got called about 45 minutes in, and I was thrilled to bring these onto the course. I was kind of shocked how much I got to use them - it's a short course, but I managed to hit each about 7-10 times.

Results weren't always "pure" and I'd like to get these on a monitor to confirm, but I'm definitely losing some distance in comparative lofts. This isn't bad in and of itself, of course, but will just take getting used to and a new set of numbers to learn.

I was surprised to find I enjoyed the thinner sole and found the turf interaction to be really clean.

I may not ultimately game a whole set of these - I may end up in something more Player's Distance (time will tell), but for the money, this is one of the nicest clubs I've ever hit.

(Side note: shafts are 10g heavier than I currently game, but were tipped to an R+ flex and felt surprisingly ok. I did not swing weight anything, though I do plan to do that to see what's what, and I may ultimately order the PX IO 5.5 shaft in the 6-iron to see if there's any noticable difference. Also of note, I installed mid-size grips and have regular grips on my Sim's)

All in all, pretty successful. My on course numbers seemed to be about 165 for the 6-iron, and about 140 for the 9. Definitely usable, but I'd have loved to have the 6 closer to 170/175 to be REALLY ready to jump in head first.

But there is zero denying they look incredible, and are shockingly forgiving, even for my hacky self 😜

Took the kids to the range today (my 3-year old's first time hitting anywhere other than my net), and managed to hit the 6 and 9 again - felt so stinking good, and the distance was the same every shot. Like, the SAME. I might be on to something here.

7 iron TS3.  Toe closed a bit while taking the pic.  Always liked pics of clubs addressing the ball.  Gives a better feel for size and looks.  This head is a beauty!

Every time I hit them yesterday, I kept thinking I'm a fool for not hitting a full set. And fwiw, the Score shafts cut to R+ feel INCREDIBLE. I'm a little bit stunned.
