How'd you hit them? How good was the weather for golf today in southern Victoria! It's great to get back out there, hope the course was in great condition after its "rest", Curlewis was a treat to play today. If you haven't played it, make sure you get down here when things get more relaxed, only an hour past Werribee.

Was brilliant weather. i started just before midday so got to finish up in the long shadows and orange light. Hit them alright but just kept making bogeys. So shot 88 (So -8 for the Par comp) but didn't have a hole worse than bogey. Just kept finding ways of losing a shot on each hole. Blew out the cobwebs though.

I haven't played Curlewis but have played Queenscliff, Ocean Grove, and Barwon Heads. My in-laws live in Queenscliff so am down there a bit. I'll have a two week break soon so taking the clubs down the peninsula could be a good idea.

Recently switched to a hybrid as a 3 wood replacement as well. Playing a 17* Adams Super XTD Ti.

How would you compare the 16* H85 to a 3 wood. Hit it just as far? Lower? What are your thoughts?

Love the wedges. Previously I had never had dedicated wedges, just the wedges that were the same as the irons I had (r7 TP irons 4-9, PW, AW, SW). I find that they are more consistent in a variety of lies. They also behave more consistently on chips. I don't have one chip release then another similar chip put on the brakes early. Each wedge has a more consistent rollout.

So I can't compare the Mizuno ones to the other premium wedges on the market. The way I selected those ones is that when I was getting fit for the irons, the MGS wedge testing was released and they got number 2 after the Honmas. The MMC irons suited me down to the ground so it made sense that I was able to get my set all built at once and all the same specs, while getting wedges that I knew were high performers.

I would say that I hit it shorter than a 3 wood. But I don't feel that sacrificing a little distance on my longest fairway club puts me at a disadvantage at all. My number for the H85 is around 230m. I have never been in a situation on a golf course where I thought, "I wish I had a club that goes 240m from the fairway. I'm majorly disadvantaged by this".

Thing that I like is that it provides greater flexibility from a variety of lies. It's better hitting from the rough than fairway woods I've had. It's also great as a punch out club, although that's far from the primary purpose for having the club.

Other thing I like is the shot shape I can do with it. With the driver (Cobra F9), I can hit it straight or with a fade. I struggle to hit draws with it as they tend to turn into big hooks. With the 16 degree H85, it tends to draw for me (like most hybrids do) but I can setup the face a little open and it basically goes straight. So if I have a tee shot that MUST have a draw, I can pull the H85 and hit that with confidence. If I MUST fade it, then I can do that with driver.

The 19 degree H85 just hits lasers. I find it hard to draw or fade that one. I love having 210m into a par 5. So much confidence that the club will go straight at it.
