juspoole
So, I was on the fence about a new driver and I think this confirmed it. I was getting my current TS3 driver regripped from a midsize with a few layers of tape added, down to a standard midsize so I could get my hands through a bit better and have noticed a rattle in the club for about 6 months. It wasn't anything major so I discounted it, but since I was there asked the fitter at a local shop to give it a look. He found that the weight port had a small hole allowing the magnet weight to get into the club head. https://www.titleist.com/teamtitleist/team-titleist/f/golf-clubs/43724/ts3-weight-rattle---brand-new It seems like some people have had a rattle issue and I'm wondering since it was like that for a while for me if it somehow got through over time? Not sure. Anyhow, as some background, I was fitted to the TS3 at Club Champion in December of 2018. My results were much better than my current gamer and G400 but over 1 1/2 years, the on course results haven't showed this. Also, I'm not sure if the fitter felt that other drivers would not be as good, but I only tried Taylormade, Ping, and Titleist drivers,. One thing I wish I would have done, was waited until this time of year, when my swing was in better shape. For reference, my swing speed was 108 - 110 over winter and recently at Golf Galaxy my swing speed was 113 - 115 range - only marginal but worth noting. I went to Golf Galaxy and tried a few different combinations of stock offerings. These included Sim, G410 Plus, Epic Flash, and Mavrik. Several were just on the used rack and I knew the loft and shaft were not great for me, but tried anyways to get a look at the clubhead at address and possibly if I found a unicorn that was somehow great for me. (I always tell myself I won't do that) Out of the bunch the Mavrik felt best, followed closely by Epic Flash SZ, Ping G410, and SIM trailing. But fast forward to now, I have an upcoming appointment with Callaway to hit drivers. This will be at an outdoor range, which is my preference so I can see ball flight. Ping has another fitting on June 10th and will try others as I can. Hopefully I can find a more consistent driver/shaft combo for my game. cjeffs12, Presley85 and Nic 3 Quote Driver: Mavrik Sub Zero 9* (Set to 10) Ventus Blue 6X 2 Hybrid: TSI3 Hybrid Tensei Blue 80 X (17.25*) 3 Hybrid 818 H2 Hybrid Hzrdus RDX Black 6.5 (20.5*) 4 Iron - T200 4 Iron Graphite Design Tour AD IZ X Hybrid Shaft Irons 5-PW: T100-S 5 - GW KBS Tour 130 X Gap/Sand Wedge: Vokey SM6 49* SM8 54* Lob Wedge: Jaws 5 Wedge 58* DG Tour Issue Stiff Putter: Phantom 5.5 34" Pro Platinum Newport 2 35" Taylormade Tour Black Spider 34"
juspoole
I got out during lunch to Golf Galaxy since I am very impatient and had the time since my sister was watching my kids. Hit Mavrik and Sub Zero as well as a few G410's once again. G410 just didn't feel as good and numbers were only average. Mavrik felt very good, but still felt like I didn't quite have the exact combo. Swing speed was up to 114 - 115 on average, but dispersion was still 30 yards off at times which I need to hone in on. Also, they didn't have a 10.5 head in the sub zero so I felt like i was trying to hit up much more than normal. Saw a used epic flash SZ 9.0* with Tensei Blue Shaft S that I actually had my best distance with. Going to test that as well during the fitting most likely and potentially save some $$$ if that works best or close. Edit: I'm an idiot and thought I took a picture of distance offline. My biggest issue is dispersion, I really don't care if I lose a little distance if I can just keep it in play. juspoole
So I had a local golf shop that is authorized dealer send the TS3 back to Titleist earlier this week and they were kind enough to let me borrow their TS2 for my round yesterday. Definitely gracious of them and something they did not have to do whatsoever. However, I remember why the TS2 was a bad fit, it sits very closed to me at addressed and I found myself pulling hooking everything during the round. Certainly can attribute majority to swing flaw, but just didn't have the confidence. Only 2 fairways hit with a driver in my hand out of 10 (Used 4 iron, hybrid and 3 wood for the others). I think new driver will happen, but on top of that, I am going to invest in lessons. I have to get some of these issues off the tee solved as well as putting yips that have crept in since June of last year. juspoole
Got out to the demo day. Swing felt a bit off and I had too many swing thoughts in my head. The nice part was I could hit my own driver on trackman first, which wasn't too bad. The fitter had me into the Sub Zero almost immediately due to my spin being fairly high at 3100 as well as saying it would fare closer to my current TS3 driver. Tried several different shafts with the first being Hzdus Smoke 6.5, but it felt pretty stout to me. Drives were ok, but just didn't seem like I was getting much pop on anything. Secondly I tried the Aldila Rogue 70X, but it also didn't really give me any real feel with the club. Drives were a bit worse than the first, mostly due to swing and not club of course. Third - hit the Graphite Design AD XC 7X and it felt the most smooth and I liked it ok, but it wasn't much better than the Smoke for me. Lastly - put me in Ventus Blue 7X and it was by far the best combination. Out of 5, all would have hit the fairway. DIstance was not the longest but in the mix and accuracy was far better. Also, I didn't have to worry about the pull hook miss and strike location was all center or just above center of face. I've had a two way miss lately, and this gave me a bit more confidence than what I've had prior. All in all, I'm a bit apprehensive. I do think the Mavrik line is a bit more forgiving, but not sold just yet. juspoole
Well apparently with a good deal I am sold. Found a price I couldn’t pass up on brand new mavrik sub zero which is the best fit for me. Confirmed authenticity with callaway before pulling the trigger. Going to try Aldila rogue and see if it was more of a path issue as I typically really like the feel of the rogue shafts. juspoole
Thought I'd post a quick update - I've had 3 rounds with the MavRik Subzero and Ventus Blue combo and so far it's been the best driver I've ever hit. It has taken me a couple shots on course to get dialed in, but after that, I've been hitting it very close to my aim point and very straight flights without much curve. The ones that are curving aren't disastrous by any means and usually extremely playable. I need to give myself a bit more of an aggressive line as I'm counting on a small fade and it just has been straight. Hopefully more to come and changing my starting point. cnosil 1 Quote Driver: Mavrik Sub Zero 9* (Set to 10) Ventus Blue 6X 2 Hybrid: TSI3 Hybrid Tensei Blue 80 X (17.25*) 3 Hybrid 818 H2 Hybrid Hzrdus RDX Black 6.5 (20.5*) 4 Iron - T200 4 Iron Graphite Design Tour AD IZ X Hybrid Shaft Irons 5-PW: T100-S 5 - GW KBS Tour 130 X Gap/Sand Wedge: Vokey SM6 49* SM8 54* Lob Wedge: Jaws 5 Wedge 58* DG Tour Issue Stiff Putter: Phantom 5.5 34" Pro Platinum Newport 2 35" Taylormade Tour Black Spider 34"
