They appear virtually new still. In addition to the ~70 rounds, you could also include endless buckets of balls. I think I've probably got around 3000 strikes with these irons, and still no appreciable wear. My new MavriK driver has a Dri-tec grip, and Ive already worn a hole in the right thumb spot. Thats in less than a month! So anyways, it's more of a statement about Hogans decision to use the Z5 grips, rather than another statement about their irons. But I have found that these grips are very, very good. So, just another good decision by the Hogan company.. And lastly, no, I still haven't gotten my 4 PtxPro... dad-gummit! I second what Sluggo said. I questioned the grips as well. They do still look new. These comments are going to be from a very small sampling, so until I get a few more rounds in, chew these with a grain of salt. The UiHi is a little easier to hit with a bigger sweet spot. the PtxPro 4 iron is longer than the UiHi, in fact its long like crazy long. Trajectory is very similar The Ptx feels more solid It cuts thru the rough pretty well. Was able to get a 201y onto the back of the green Ill need much more data to really dial it in for distances, but they were definitely longer than the 5 iron which is one thing I need to really get a feel for, for real gapping. I had a few off the tee @220y ish, which is crazy, so Ill need to match those shots, and hit the 5 from the same spot as well. The more I hit it, the more it indicated much more testing will be needed. A thin hit in the early cool AM stung the fingers... Golfspy_CG2, bens197 and J.B. Its not very reliable tho... the trouble with trying to review just one club, or should I say two, especially the 4 iron, is that without a trackman, I can only hit them when the opportunity arises, and if Im not getting pressure behind me. My exact scientific procedure is to take 2 or 4 balls and mark 2 of them. Then from a variety of places, Ill hit both clubs, and use my tracking section of my "Golfshot Plus" to see how far they went, and which club "won" that event. The one glaring problem with this process is me. I don't always hit the ball perfectly, much less trice or 4 times in a row. But, when I do, I do see that the trajectory is very similar. And distances will vary depending on strike, and landing spot. The landing spot can really affect rollout obviously. being that the head is much smaller, it only makes sense that it can cut thru the rough easier that a larger head, so I think it wins that category just based on physics. But with that, the larger head and larger sweet spot makes the UiHi an easier, more forgiving tool. So it wins that category ... I will continue to hit them both as the days roll on, and eventually will have a reasonable answer to the question. Sluggo42
Well I hit the snot outta these two 4 irons today, and you know what happened? A whole lotta the same thing. It seems that very well struck hits from either iron, seemed to look like carbon copies of each other. Im wanting to see one of them dominate, but they just don't. I did have a good ball striking day today, and Ill tell ya, the PtxPro 4 iron is sweet. I think as Ive been saying, that the UiHi is easier to hit, due to its size. But the PtxPro 4iron was sizzling today. I didn't even carry a 4 iron for the last few years, but guess what? Now I do. Im getting close to keeping the Ptx 4 in the bag, simply because I like the smaller club. The UiHi hits it every way as good I'm finding out, but the Ptx cuts thru the rough a little easier, and feels a little more crisp . They both seem to go about 190-200 ish off the grass, and a bit further off the tee. I've been hitting off the turf mostly, so tomorrow I"m gunna try to get a bunch of tee shots in... I think at this juncture I would say that if you're a good iron striker, you might prefer the PtxPro, and if long irons are not in your wheelhouse, the UiHi would probably suit you better... bens197, Vegan_Golfer_PNW and J.B. Sluggo42
yea, I think today seals the deal for me, and I crown the PtxPro 4 iron the winner in my showdown. I have nothing negative to say about the 4UiHi either. I just prefer the feel of the PtxPro, and its a little tighter out of the rough. I think its a little longer, but that doesn't really mean much to me, but I just am throwing that out there. Off the tee, the UiHi seemed to soar a bit higher, and the Ptx seemed to pierce more. You can work the Ptx a little easier too, but, its not like you can't turn the UiHi. What sealed the deal today was a shot on the #1 hcp hole where the pin was in the back of the green, uphill, 184 yds. Early in the round and chilly. I just tried to put a good swing on it, and it went pin high about 20 feet left of the pin, but the green slopes that way so it really couldn't have gone anywhere else. I just missed the birdie putt for those interested. But having a putt was key. deejaid, downlowkey, Vegan_Golfer_PNW and 1 other 5 Quote TSr2 on tensi blue stiff Speedzone 3-wood on Tensi blue S Epic Max 5 and 7 woods on HZRDUS Reg flex Paradym 9 wood on HZRDUS reg flex P770 / P790 combo set on Ventus R-6 shafts 6-AW T22 Denim Copper 54°, 58° on Kinetic X Trajectory ER3 or, E.A.S. #4 (“Fang” or “Adele”) ProV1x, or, Maxfli Tour X .Org 14 cart bag Adidas Tour 360 , or Sketcher shoes

deejaid
yea, I think today seals the deal for me, and I crown the PtxPro 4 iron the winner in my showdown. But having a putt was key.I really think I’m going to order a PTx Pro 4-iron as well. I agree the PTx Pro feels so much better than the UiHi and I have no trouble hitting the PTx Pro 5-iron nice and high. I like the more compact look too. Sluggo42
I played at a different track yesterday with my friends and was very busy talking smack about my Mavric, and how I was going to murder the ball all day. Well it was quite windy and it kinda psyched me out of big swings, so I ended up with only 2 super solid drives. But I ended up shooting a -2, and it was the Hogans that stole the show. funny thing that 3 of our 4-some was playing the PtxPro's. I was the only one with the combo tho. And the other guy was playing my old p790's. ZMendle10
Great job on the reviews everyone. I have been mulling over testing both the Icons and the PTX Pros for quite some time and after reading the reviews I decided to pull the trigger. I ordered a demo set of the PTX Pros with KBS Tour V X-Stiff and a set of Demos of the Icons with KBS Tour V Stiff Shafts to test out a potential combo set as well as the shafts. They should be arriving on Thursday and can't come soon enough. newballcoach, bens197 and JerBooth 3 Quote Driver: TSR3 8°, set to A1, Graphite Design UB 7X 3 Wood: SIM 3 Wood 15°, Aldila Rouge Silver 7X 3 Hybrid: CLK 18°, Ventus Blue 8S 2 Utility: ZX Utility, LA Golf Tour AXS Blue, (15th club) 4i-AW: ZX7, Tour Issue Dynamic Gold 120's S400 56°: TAIII, Dynamic Gold S400 60° TAIII, Dynamic Gold S400 Putter: Mezz1 Max Ball: Tour BX Forum Reviews: Official Member Review Sub 70 TAIII Wedges Official Member Review Zelos 7 Shaft Review Unofficial Vokey SM8 and Wedge & Wedge Works Review Unofficial Srixon 2021 ZX7 Iron Review Unofficial TSR3 Review

newballcoach
Thanks for the reviews fellas. I am refinishing and building a classic set of Hogan Apex's and love to hear about these icons if I am looking for something new. That the clubs are this universally loved by a MGS testers really says something in my opinion.
