kiwicogolfer
I got my Black Players Combo set 4-7 PTx Pro (no UiHi in black sadly) & 8-PW Icons with Tour-V 120 X in them and I absolutely love them. Distances are super consistent, love the stopping power even in the lower lofted irons.. Need to play more and work is getting in the way. bens197, Vegan_Golfer_PNW and downlowkey
kiwicogolfer
My latest dilemma is do I reshaft my Hogans into Rapid Tapers or save them and build out a different set with the RT's. Originally planned to do combo weights, 75, 85 & 95 through to the PW.
Simon
The Bo Derek of Irons sold them for me!!! lol @joen Currently playing some 50th Anniversary APEX blades from 2003. Need a little help now in the longer irons, as i'm not playing as much as i did, so will be ordering either the PTx PROs or the Combo set later this month. Popular Post downlowkey
Zombie Thread Alert Finally got around to lacing up my spare set of Matrix Ozik Program 130 shafts in the ICONs on Saturday. Assuming that Sunday’s round in blustery conditions was indicative of their enduring utility, I should have dug into this project much sooner. If a smoother loading shaft exists, I’ve never swung it. Great balance, touch higher launch and tight draws. I also personally think the color combo turned out none too shabby. These were originally a set of Adams CMB pulls that should have covered 4-PW. Upon closer inspection, the tip on the 5-iron looked a smidge overcooked, so I ended up soft stepping the 4-iron shaft and slipping an Adams Super Proto DHY into the 4-iron slot. Shout out to Grail Golf for the long red collared ferrules and @PokeForeLyfe for a great deal on the shafts. This DIY project was under $130 out the door! With the daylight savings switch around the corner, I’m super stoked about spending more quality time with these beauties! ZMendle10
How's everyone's irons holding up to the test of time? Are they still in the bag and are they looking to be cherished with the company no longer in buisness. In response to your first question, the ICONs are holding up great to Father Time and sandy TX turf. My aging joints on the other hand, not so much. Which leads me into a somewhat conflicted outlook re: how best to cherish what I think is one of the best sets of blades ever forged. The timing of your inquiry seems particularly prescient as I was literally staring at these items and genuinely considering kicking off this treatment today. The project has been on my mind for a few months and the first step was finishing a blueprint build of 4-PW Adams CMBs to keep me happy out on the links during any ensuing interim. The CMBs turned out amazing (my WITB deserves a fresh post) so all that remains is whether or not to pull the trigger on what would be an ultra-rare set of raw ICONs. The 4-iron head pictured above was already loose - figured I could start with that and see how it turned out. But I’m seriously struggling with even that relatively minor decision. @GolfSpy_APH is this the sort of dilemma we could pose here to the forum in a proper thread poll. Something like… Should DLK give his precious discontinued Ben Hogan ICON Blacks the raw finish treatment? Absolutely not - that would be sacrilege, those blades are perfection, put them back in your gamer bag immediately Oh my, yes - but he damn well better document the entire process on the forum and commit to the best build ever, drown them all in vinegar already ZMendle10 and Rickp 2 Quote PXG___0811 X 9* - Mitsubishi Diamana s60 Limited X Cobra___S9-1 Pro 15* - Matrix Ozik XCON 7 S Adams___XTD Forged 3i - Matrix Ozik Program F15 120 S Adams___CMB 4-PW - Matrix Ozik Program F15 120 S KZG___Tri-Tour 50.08__54.10__58.12 - Accra iCWT 2.0-95i S Nike___Method Converge B1-01 (copper insert) Maxfli___'23 Tour X "The most important shot in golf is the next one“
03trdblack
Had never played Hogan irons before but picked up a combo set used and rebuilt them. vandyland
I am still playing the PTxPros and I love them. I think the only thing that will get them out of the bag is curiosity on my part (I am anxiously awaiting the Maltby TE+ DBM release). They still perform very well and I have now had them in the bag for 3 seasons. Look great, not that difficult to hit and have excellent flight and somewhat traditional lofts. Plus the sole is amazing.
