Irons about every 5 - 10 years. I see no reason to buy new any sooner than that. If I just wanted new stuff for the sake of having new stuff, I would probably go every 2 years...lol.

I do tend to stick with Mizuno... I just get along with them.

First set of irons that I bought myself (Titleist Tour Models) in 1987 when I was 16 were replaced in 2005 with the Ben Hogan Apex Edge Pros, which I still have in the bag. I still occasionally play the Titleist, however.

I replace about every 4-5 years.  Exception is my last set of irons (Titleist 716 AP1s) I only kept for one season, but that was mainly due to what I feel was an incorrect fitting. Not a reflection on the clubs themselves bc I have always been a Titleist guy, but I was fit by an assistant club pro into a shaft that was way to stiff for me.  Over that winter I checked into getting them reshafted and that have would cost damn near as much as a new set so I traded them and got the Rogue Pro irons.  I have always like Callaway woods, but this is the first set of their irons I have ever owned.  I like them fairly well, but have decided I am gonna get this year and next out of them and then get something new fall of 21.  I plan to go into the buying process next time around with a little more of an open mind instead of thinking "I like brand X and Y, lets see what they currently have out"

In my bag (for now):

Driver: :titelist-small: TS2 9.5 deg- HZRDUS Smoke 60G Stiff

3-wood: :titelist-small: TS3 15 deg- HZRDUS Smoke 70G Stiff

Hybrid: :titelist-small: 818 H1 19 deg- Atmos HB Tour Spec- 85G

Irons: :callaway-small: Rogue Pro CF18 5iron - AW- True Temper XP105 Stiff

Wedge #1: :callaway-small: MD5 Jaws - 54-10S- Dynamic Gold 115

Wedge #2 :callaway-small: MD5 Jaws - 58.08C- Dynamic Gold 115

Putter: :odyssey-small: Triple Track Ten - 34.5 inch Stroke Lab

Bag: :callaway-small: 2020 Org 14

Ball: still being settled on, but most likely the Bridgestone B-X, also testing 2020 Chrome Soft and Titleist ProV1x (my go to for several years)

This is interesting in that for most of us this is as much a financial consideration as it is a golf question.  In other words, if I haven't bought clubs it's not because I didn't feel I needed them, it's because I wasn't in a position to spend the money.

My last clubs had R flex shafts and I had clearly outgrown them; I watched my iron shots balloon with regularity.  When I went in for my first lesson it took 5 minutes for the coach to tell me I really needed new clubs, or at least new shafts.  But, I had 2 car payments and plenty of other "life" expenses, so the clubs had to wait.

In the 23 years I have been playing I have had 6 sets of irons. with only 1 set being in the bag less than 2 years.. So I would say about every 5 years or so..

I'm on a five year plan "sort of" . I read all the reviews when the new models come out.  Then wait two years and find the set I want on close out.  I usually pay less than a third of the original price and they are still new. So even though I replace them after five years they really are 7 years old.  I've tried several brands but wind up with one or two that I stick with. If I wind up with a set that particularly did not work well for me I give to my son. I've had 2 sets of Cobra, 2 sets of Callaway, 3 sets of Wilson Staff. I got my eye on some Srixon's for the next round. Got to hit them on demo day a few weeks ago.

I have replaced my irons since starting a couple year ago quite a bit. I was playing game improvement irons but once I started to get better I was hitting the ball too far and my gapping was terrible. I upgraded to Srixon Z 585 Iron's I couldn't hit them worth crap so I traded for a set of TaylorMade R11 irons. They were decent irons and then was gifted the current set I have and I have stuck with them since november last year. I'm looking at upgrading again to either Callaway Apex Forged or Mizuno JPX900 Forged Irons in the next year. I might even buy new this next time if the manufactures have great sales at the end of the season because of COVID sales being down.

I kept my last set of irons over 20 years, but that included a hiatus of about 15 years. But I’m planning on about every 4-6 years.

Same.  I had my PING i-3 blades for 20 years but probably averaged 3 or 4 rounds a year over the last 15 years.  Just got the golf bug again and purchased a new set of irons...would expect to do that every 4 or 5 years assuming I continue to play more.

MGS has opined that you really are looking at about a 5-year window before the technology evolves to the point that your current stuff is lacking. Seems to be true in my case. My 919 Forged are leaps and bounds better than my previous 7-year old irons, but testing drivers nothing really outpaced my GBB Epic.

I try to replace my irons multiple times a year.  It often does not succeed.  I have mainly played the J36CB, J40CB, then Srioxn 765 still today.  I have tried M3 irons, P790, Hotmetal Pro, King Forged Tours, Cally Apex, and some others I am sure I am forgetting.

Clubs in great standing

  • Driver - Callaway Epic Max LS - Rogue White 130 MSI TX
  • 3 Wood - Taylormade 300 Mini 13.5 - UST Mamiya Black 79X

  • Putter -  Mannkrafted MA/66 - UST Frequency Filter, LAB MEZZ.1  - BGT Stability

Clubs in good standing(fighting for one spot)....

  • 7 Wood - Company that shall not be named - UST Mamiya Black 79TX | Util - Callaway Apex X Forged UTIL 21* - AD-DI | Util - Srixon ZXU 18* -  Recoil 110 F5 | Util - Callaway UW 19* - HZRDOUS smoke black 6.5

I've had 3 sets total since high school. And my last set I just got at the end of 2018, so I guess I'm towards the 7 year crowd.

I’m every 3-5 years but there is a tendency for me to cluster when I change - it may take a couple of cracks before I settle in.

I’m also normally a generation behind in what I game.

6 years. My first set was a cheap brand called Ram Golf, bought them at a Sports Authority when i picked up golf in my teens and replaced them after college. Bought a set of Taylormade Speedblades from Dicks. I started to get an itch about 2 years ago to upgrade, but i bought lessons instead. Glad i did because i dropped about 10 strokes, shooting in the lower 100s to lower 90s. Recently I went to a Callaway fitting and fell in love with the Mavrik Pros. Waiting for them to arrive at the pro shop to pick them up.

I purchased my first set of irons in 2010 then didn't upgrade until 2019 but I didn't play golf for many years between the 9 year gap. I am now going to at least look to upgrade irons every 5 years now.

I am not married to one brand I actually like to try every brand to see what I like the best.

I've had my Mizuno MP-30's since 2001, and they have been great.  Had Titleist 962's for 4 years prior to that.

FINALLY getting new irons again this week with Sub 70 639 CB's, but I should have 1 more round with the Mizuno's before they come in.
